And our new blog starts..............NOW ๐๐
Out with the new, in with the old? Why opting to upholster your old furniture is better than buying new. Why opting to upholster your old furniture is better than buying new.
Realised I never actually got around to posting my client shots of the banquette seating I did for their new snazzy new nightclub ๐ธ

Itโs an issue thatโs affects us ALL!
In the UK our furniture is treated with HIGHLY TOXIC fire retardant chemicals that are detrimental to our health - such chemicals are no longer used in the EU and USA and guess what?โฆโฆtheir fire stats havenโt got worse!
As an upholsterer I have to get up close and personal with these chemicals on a regular basis, itโs unavoidable and it sucks, but as a Mum, worrying about my children touching and breathing in these chemicals at home sucks even more!
The government knows these chemicals are incredibly detrimental to our health and thatโs why furniture now has to be incinerated rather than going to landfill where the chemicals could then creep in to our waterways.
Thatโs also just the half of it, thereโs also multiple parts of the proposed legislation that would cripple small upholstery businesses especially those that try to work sustainably and with older pieces.
Please read and sign - it takes two minutes and you have until the 24th October to help

This was a lovely little first project to ease my way back after maternity leave.

So Iโve been pretty quiet on hereโฆin fact today marks a whole year since my last post.
I thought I would mark this leave of absence by explaining where Iโve been, where Iโm going and a little about me as I know Iโve been rather private and havenโt yet put a face to my name - perhaps Iโve not even said my name so here goesโฆ
Iโm Hannah and I am a mum of two from Bristol. I love long walks, good coffee, good wine and am stuck in the 80โs when it comes to film and music.
Iโve also always loved rescuing old discarded bits of furniture and making them beautiful again.
After doing a year of basic upholstery classes locally to me in 2013 I then went on to train professionally. The training was 5 hours away so it was far from easy involving 5am starts leaving Bristol on a Monday and getting back at Midnight a few days later whilst also fitting in my part time work to pay the bills as I studied. It was so worth it though and the skills and lessons I learnt were invaluable.
In 2017 I launched Seats & Solder which I have been nurturing as my part time baby ever since, often fitting in commissions around my other job in the charity sector.
In 2020 my son was born and in October last year our family was complete with the arrival of my daughter.
Now that I am also fitting in being a Mother of two something had to give. I have finally taken the leap to ditch the day job and now I can focus on my two main loves in life motherhood and upholstery.
I want to thank everyone that has supported me to take this step, everyone that has bought a product, booked a commission, recommended me, shared a post and everyone that has told me if my small business doesnโt work out thatโs still ok.
I also want to thank all my super patient clients that have understood the pressures of running a business whilst also navigating motherhood, those that didnโt pressure me with deadlines, waited days and sometimes weeks for replies to emails - thank you.
So right now I am slowly easing my way back in to work so expect to see more of me over the coming months.
My diary is already booked up until January but please get in touch now to get your upholstery project pencilled in for 2024.
