The above Swarm was in the middle of the local campsite! It is now happily rehomed in my apiary & doing very well.🤩

So what do we do with Kefir? That was one of the questions from our workshop.
One Traditional Way Kefir is often enjoyed is in soups. If you want to preserve the probiotic bacteria and yeasts, don’t heat the soup too hot!
Here I’ve made a huge pan of Carrot, pumpkin and tomato soup with pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, coriander seeds, salt, ginger, Olive oil, apple cider vinegar & cayenne pepper….my tea-yum!
The Kefir was added after the soup had cooled to pleasantly warm eating temperature. Extremely nutritious, tasty, and good for your gut microbiome… Which will help you cheaply & abundantly be healthy and happy!

Summer is well & truly over, & so is my 6 month sabbatical in my Sunny Caravan. So please get in touch if you would like anything herbal!

Kefir is extremely easy and quick to make. No special equipment needed aside a bowl, sieve & jar.
It has all the flora you need for a healthy gut biome, which is becoming increasingly well known as a fundamental key to health, energy and feeling good.
It also contains calcium, phosphorus & vitamin K2, to promote strong, healthy bones.

Next installment: unraveling the roof… surviving the storms…
Sometimes life feels like a solitary battle in the dark against powerful forces you don’t understand…
I learned in those days, when I physically fought fearsome storms, in the pitch black night, for my roof, made of tarps, that the sideways winds and icey rain were trying to whisk away, how to fight a life or death battle.
I wasn’t someone who is going to run defeated for help. I literally probably would’ve died of cold if I didn’t win.
So I always won. Because I had to. I learned to focus 100% on the job in hand: mind clears, lesser worries are blown and washed away, literally…
Struggle opens inner doors to hidden resources pleasantness never reaches, and enriches our lives during happier times… I am blessed to have these awesome memories.🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🌳🛖💨💦🌈

Eviction notice! It’s finally sinking in. I thought this would be my home for many years. That’s what they said. Last week I got home to a note on the door giving me two months notice.
As if to ram the truth in harder, today the council bin lorry crashed into my gate and gate post, sending the metal heart I tied to the gate, when I moved in before COVID, crashing to the ground. At least the heart isn’t broken just the link to the chain.❤️‍🩹
I am someone who likes to keep my troubles to myself and be very resourceful at sorting them out… But in this instance I think I need to put a shout out in case anybody knows of somewhere me and Pepper can live and work from not too far away!
Otherwise it looks like we may be back in a caravan at least for the summer! Turfed out even before spring…
Ah my Sunny Bank Cottage, & all my crazy neighbors, I so don’t want to leave you! So cruel…
So tired of always moving on…😖😥🏡🏕❤️‍🩹

Tasty Winter nibble: Hazel catkins, full of pollen with all its amazing nutrients.
Magical Witch Hazel: Herald of the lighter days and turning of the year. Distilled water of Witch Hazel has a very long, safe history of effective use to sooth skin irritation or blemishes, reduce bruising, and help with varicose veins/ hemorrhoids. It is astringent and anti-inflammatory.

6 foot high strawbale walls reduced to a thin layer of compost… Such is the transformative power of nature.
Memories last longer than matter, but matter can rekindle those memories.
The relics of my old bed: two pallets, 4 straw bales, a blowup Lilo and lots of sheepskin coats!
Only the man-made plastic Lilo Is attempting to resist nature’s recycling force, but fungal mycelium are trying hard to break it down, forming beautiful white patterns on the dark blue.
From this pile of rotting debris, visions of waking up nose to nose with Chic-chip,my pet house rabbit.
I feel summer lizards dropping from between the wall straw bales onto my bed in the night.
I relive vicious winter storms: pitch dark solitary battles, in icy gale force winds & driving rain, to tie down the roof tarps and stop them blowing away!
From the gap I never filled between the straw bales & the door, a cheery Robin or Wren hauling me back from my fantastical world of vivid dreams each the morning…

What a wonderful world!🥰🥰🥰🦔🦉🌿🌈🛖

Not very glamorous I know the first bit of any wilderness project… Just like gardening: a whole lot of graft before the beautiful stuff emerges!
To me it’s like an archaeological dig into my soul, unearthing half forgotten memories, feelings, remembering dear animal & avian friends long since passed away…
At last with the help of my friends, I can actually emerge from these overwhelming memories and keep clearing instead of just dissolving into a green dreamworld where nothing gets done!🌈🥰🌳🦔🦉
So grateful to Renuka, Pepper & Marty🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Exciting new project for 2023: It is time, at last, to share my amazing magical field.
It has been 10 years now since I lived here in the wild. This year with the help of wonderful Renuka and anyone else who wants to come on board to give a hand, we are going to transform it into a base for teaching people about herbs, plants, forest bathing, Bushcraft and so on.
I am hoping it will be a sacred, peaceful space where people can connect simply & profoundly to mother nature and grandmother Earth.
We haven’t sorted out the fine details yet, but the voyage has begun as from today!
Huge thanks to Renuka for coming on board and to Marty and Pepper for the wonderfully enthusiastic canine support.

Another wonderful great Longstone Herb Walk. Amazing how much you can find this time of year! Frosted Wood Ear Fungus like crunchy mushroom sorbet! Granny Smith and lemon flavored sorbet from sorrel, Cleavers starting to reappear… Wrapped up warm and waterproof, out and about is still the best!🥰💦🌤🌳🌈

Velvet shank mushroom: the books say edible cooked and peeled… Every year I try to get to know at least one new mushroom. I have known about this one for a long time, but for some reason never quite clocked it was edible! I knew it was medicinal…A culinary adventure awaits! It is extremely beautiful and pretty common through the winter. It withstrands being frozen… So happy hunting!
