We are excited to announce we are now the owners an exciting learning tool and resource gifted to us by Autograph] !
The “Exhibition in a Box” is a pop up archive exhibition display containing 30 remarkable image panels, reproduced from rare 19th century photographs portraying people of African, Caribbean and South Asian descent during the Victorian era in Britain.
It is part of the The Missing Chapter programme, supported by Heritage Lottery Fund. This initiative aims to showcase diverse ‘black presences’ in Victorian and Edwardian Britain, following the birth of photography in 1839.
You can view some of these photograph reproductions, many of which haven’t been seen for up to 125 years, in our exhibition “Where Are You From, From? Black British Culture In Print 1800s- Now” running between the 10th and 26th May (information in bio).
We are also proud to say we will using these as part of several educational events engaging KS2 pupils in the Canterbury area in efforts to diversify the school curriculum.
The box will then be donated to the Templeman Library archives where it will be used to further promote diversity in our student community!
For more information about the box, go to https://autograph.org.uk/events/exhibition-in-a-box-black-chronicles-woolwich
A big thank you to Autograph]
