What a fantastic day for our Social Work graduates. Congratulations 🎉👩‍🎓 🎉👨‍🎓 🎉🎓

Today saw our first cohort of Social Worker Degree apprentices graduate at Rochester Cathedral. Starting their programme in March 2020, these Kent based social workers have had a tough three years, but today they celebrated their success and are now newly qualified social workers. A huge well done to the staff in School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research, University of Kent and all the employers involved, including Kent County Council, Medway Council, WeAreWithYou and Kent Case Management.

Who follows MrBeast ?🤚

His charitable efforts have helped thousands, but is it charity as ''philanthro-tainment" ?

Senior Lecturer in Social Policy, Eddy Hogg, says that such charitable spectacles are a continuation of what has come before, except this time, it's through the prism of YouTube's engagement-driven model.

But is his approach to philanthropy problematic?

Will ChatGPT take your job?

It’s entirely up to us, says SSPSSR lecturer and digital culture expert by Dr Vince Miller.

‘With AI, it is clear that there is the potential for many paid human tasks (in the case of chatbots, forms of writing) that people currently do to be automated by these technologies, thus putting people out of work. That is one thing that could happen. Indeed, that’s generally Western capitalism’s approach to using technology: automate tasks so that we can reduce the number of paid workers, make them more efficient, and thus make more profit. In that sense, AI could be a real game changer that serves to accelerate the already increasing gaps between rich and poor, for example.
However, it doesn’t have to be like this, and we don’t have to use the technology in this way.'
