It's National Friendship Day ❤️
Today, we thought we would highlight the special friendship between Karen, our Marketing & Partnerships Manager, and Sid!
A friendship that doesn't act its age! 😂
Karen (46) and Sid (99) have been mates for 15 years. Their paths crossed when Karen, who works for Age Connects, visited a local group of older people interested in photography.
"I was writing an article for our charity magazine about learning new skills in later life and the benefits it can bring. You'd better speak to Sid, I was advised when I got there. He loves to chat!"
I found Sid; he does love to chat and luckily, so do I! We've been firm friends ever since. Over the years, Sid has helped my daughter bake Welsh cakes for the school eisteddfod project; we have enjoyed outings and always a cuppa and some of his home-baked cakes. He is always willing to support our charity work in any way he can, even as our model for a bus advertising campaign! He is a true pillar of the community. I'm sure many others will agree that Sid is an inspirational older person, and I'm glad to call him a friend".
Sid is fortunate to have lots of family and friends nearby should he need support. However, far too many older local people do not. Do you feel you could spare 1 or 2 hours a week to give your time to support an older person? Then we would love to hear from you!

Thank you, Colin ❤️
We wanted to take this opportunity to share thanks and well wishes to Colin, who stepped down from our Charity Board of Trustees earlier this year.
Colin was a Trustee of the Charity for well over 30 years. Initially holding the post of Treasurer, then Chair for 12 years, and finally, as Finance Director. Trustees are responsible for governing the Charity and ensuring it complies with Charity and Company Law, with the day-to-day running of the Charity by the Chief Executive and Managers.
When speaking of his commitment towards Age Connects, Colin says:
“The Charity has grown considerably since I joined, and it now helps thousands of older people every year. Our aim has always been to help, support, and enable older people to maintain their independence and improve the quality of their lives. The small team of staff work hard together with hundreds of volunteers; without their help, we would not be able to provide all the help and support to our clients. I have truly found it so rewarding to help the Charity grow over the years and to help so many people”.
On behalf of Age Connects Cardiff and the Vale, thank you Colin. Your support over all these years has been invaluable.
Cuppa and catch up with one of our supporters - Ryan ❤️
As many of you know, Ryan recently ran an incredible 90-mile run from Llanidloes to Cardiff in memory of his Dad. So far, raising over £9,000 for Age Connects Cardiff and The Vale, making a significant impact in our community.
Thank you, for your incredible support and dedication!
We are excited to continue working together and make a vital difference to the lives of local older people. 🌟
Thank You Day ❤️
Age Connects would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the hard work and support from all of our volunteers.
Your dedication and commitment to making a difference in our community is valued and never goes unnoticed.
Thank you!
Nobody can do everything, but everyone can do something ❤️

https://keepsmilingcollective.co.uk/
Lara Rebecca is a Cardiff-based bilingual mental health and eating disorder awareness advocate; Lara brings a unique perspective shaped by her personal journey of overcoming anxiety disorder and anorexia nervosa. She is dedicated to destigmatising conversations around mental health and sharing practical tools to facilitate personal development and growth.
Through her raw and unfiltered keynote speech, she encourages audiences to lean into discomfort, prioritise their psychological well-being, live in alignment with their core values, and strive for contentment and happiness.
We are also in the process of confirming a second guest speaker, who will be announced shortly. Keep an eye out 👀
