Great to catch up our previous horsey neighbour and give a fellow ginger a well deserved MOT ready for their competition on Sunday π§‘π΄
Very important to have a rest day in between a massage and an event πͺπΌ
She loves the balance pads, always nods off π€
Amazing tool to help with balance, posture, coordination and stability
Works wonders when her field is on an incline
Skin Sensitivity and Omega-3 Fatty Acids π¦
If your horse suffers with hypersensitivty in their skin particularly around the insect season, supplementing their diets with Omega-3 Fatty Acid's may offer some additional support. Omega 3 fatty acids are known for their anti-inflammatory properties, as well as improving skin elasticity and helping to maintain the skin's barrier function.
A pilot study has found that diet's with supplementary Omega 3's have reduced skin reactions to biting midges. In the study, horses with a known history of sensitivity were exposed to extracts of the biting midges. Half of the horses in the trial were given linseed (a good source of Omega-3's) for 6 weeks. At the end of the trial, the horses who had received supplementation with linseed had reactions that were significantly reduced compared to those had received the placebo.
Modern feeding regimes, combined with management and an increased reliance on conserved forages could mean that some horses are receiving a higher proportion of omega-6 fatty acids than omega-3, meaning that these essential fatty acids have to be supplied by the diet. Plant derived omega-3βs are converted in the body from their basic form to more complex and highly effective forms. Marine derived omega-3 sources supply these more complex forms directly into the body and therefore are a more potent way of supplying omega-3βs.

After being left to her own devices for a few days in the field, solely eating it's amazing to see how much tension has still accumulated over her back and hind quarters
Notice the relaxed ears and soft eyes π€π€
The Equilibrium pad has earned it's keep today!

Happy horses full of feel good endorphins before bedtime
Fantastic improvement for this boy
Stance alot straighter after treatment and no longer tucked in under himself π
Are you winter ready? βοΈ
Completely forgot I had ordered this π
DID YOU KNOW...
-for every 1 centimeter of extra toe length- this results in an extra 50 kilograms of force acting on the tendons
-1 degree drop in sole angle where the DDFT inserts into the coffin bone (affected by Palmar Angle) can lead to a 4% increase in the pressure exerted by the DDFT on the Navicular bone

These simple facts highlight how important it is to keep your horses on tight shoeing schedule and receive correct trimming/shoeing to give them a long and successful career.

Red light therapy is also amazing for dogs πΎ
Our boy tore part of his dew claw off whilst on a walk a couple of days ago and had to be taken to the vets covered in blood and squealing like no tomorrow if anyone dared touch it
Alongside 5 doses of antibiotics and regular red light therapy it is virtually healed without any more swelling, he is no longer trying to shy his paw away when we check on it and he has stopped cleaning it
- After a very excitable ride through open fields and hill work yesterday π¨π¨
- Nice to see her relax and let go of that pent up tension
- Poll, neck and shoulder massage followed by an equilibrium session seemed to do the trick π
Great improvement in range of motion for my beautiful Flash ππΌ
Brought this one in the other evening out of the sun for a hose down & a quick routine MOT over her general problem areas since moving to a new field that has a slight incline
I've never seen her yawn so much π± just about managed to catch the last one before before she stopped (typical!)
Look at that lip, soft eyes & relaxed ears π
π
Nice poll release for this beautiful boy before bedtime
I love when a horse is expressive about tension release!
Lots of chewing / yawning & gut sounds πͺπΌππΌ
Strengthening the muscles around the stifle area

Great to see a familiar face yesterday !!
After various 3 day events a few minor adjustments were needed for this one π΄
Ended the session completely relaxed in almost a "sedated state" - great improvement on range of motion in the hind quarters post massage
(photos posted with permission)
Look at the beautiful loose ripple of muscle π
Great indication there are no stress points in this particular area & signs of a well fitted saddle ππΌ
Looking into massage for riders alongside their horse + combining the two together ππ΄
Seeing the shear happiness on an owner's face the morning after a massage is the best π΄π
Daily occurrence on our turn out route
Have always done this, be safe not sorry πͺπΌ

Unlike humans, horses are designed to run on a full stomach. Feeding your horse 2-3L of chaff or a biscuit of hay prior to exercise has two benefits :
1οΈβ£ The chaff will form a ball of feed in the stomach, which will help prevent acid from splashing up from the lower part of the stomach to cause gastric ulcers.
2οΈβ£ Blood is normally diverted away from the stomach during exercise, which reduces some of its normal protective mechanisms. Research has shown that feeding your horse before exercise actually reduces the amount of blood that is shunted away from the stomach and also increases the amount of blood delivered to the skeletal muscles and muscles of the chest. So not only are you helping to protect the stomach, you also might be improving your horseβs performance.

After being on box rest for a good while and constantly changing shape, Pixels saddle fitting had to be postponed because of how sore her gluteal muscles were (probably something she had done in the field)
She showed a great deal of tension release and let me touch areas that previously were completely out of bounds + work slightly deeper πͺπ
This lovely "cow pony" will sleep very well tonight β€οΈ
