ππ»ββοΈ I enjoyed two lovely swim spots this weekend. The first at Wotton Pool in South Gloucestershire and the second at The Rock Pool at Westward Ho! I finished swimming just before the tide came in and covered over the pool.
πββοΈ I also did Woolacombe Dunes Park Run for the first time. Apparently itβs the second toughest Park Run in the country. It definitely has amazing views along the beach.
π’ A BIG shout out to everyone running the Cheltenham Half Marathon tomorrow. I have lots of clients that have been training hard for months, enjoy it!!! πββοΈ πββοΈ π

π What sports do your βsportyβ clients do?
ππΌ I have clients that do all sorts of sports. I treat runners, swimmers, road cyclists, mountain bikers, waterpolo players, horse riders, triathletes, pole dancers, squash players, tennis players, body builders, footballers, rugby players, netball players, dancers, golfers, walkersβ¦
πͺ All sports have repetitive actions that can cause muscle overuse and postural problems. Soft tissue treatment can help to keep muscles in better condition and it helps to prevent injuries. If an injury has already occurred then soft tissue work can help to speed up the healing process. Stretching and strengthening those muscles will reduce the likelihood of repeating that injury.

π© No, I treat a lot of people with work related musculoskeletal (muscles, joints and bones) problems. A lot of jobs use repetitive movements which can cause muscle overuse which can lead to discomfort and pain.

π On Friday night I had a midnight swim which was fun swimming in the dark. The lido looked pretty all lit up.

π₯ Iβm loving watching all those inspirational athletes get out there and do what they do best. All that hard work has paid off to even make it to Paris to represent their country in the Olympics. A medal is the icing on the cake.
π¦ΈββοΈ The diving yesterday was just fantastic. As a young boy Tom Daley turned up to a diving class inspired to try something new. Heβs such a hero in our household.

π§ Nowβs the chance to get your kids booked in for a massage. How can children benefit from massage?
πͺ I have two children that do lots of sports including swimming and water polo. They get tight muscles so have regular massage treatments with me.
𦴠Between the ages of approximately eight and sixteen children have growth spurts. Their bones grow quickly and the soft tissues such as muscles can find it hard to keep up with the speed of growth. Their muscles can become tight which can be painful. The childβs flexibility can be reduced and therefore injury is more likely to occur.
π Other benefits to massage for children include increasing their bodies happy hormones and decreasing their bodies stress hormones. Itβs a great way of calming a child that is stressed during exam times for example.
βοΈ Under 18βs do require written consent for a massage from their parent or guardian and that adult must also be present in the treatment room for the duration of the massage.
βοΈ Iβll have availability over the summer holidays. Please send me a message if you would like to book in.
π What is cramp?
π£ A sudden and involuntary tightening (spasm) of a muscle/muscles that causes pain and makes it hard to continue moving that muscle. Muscle cramps occur mainly in the leg and foot muscles but any muscle can be affected. Cramp can last a few seconds or several minutes depending on the severity.
π What should I do if I get cramp?
πͺ Gently stretch the muscle and massage the area to encourage it to relax. Move around to get your muscles working.
π΄ You can get cramp when you are asleep (nocturnal cramp).
π What causes cramp?
π It could be too much high intensity exercise, holding a position for too long, stress, losing body fluids through sweat, involuntary nerve discharges, side effects from some illnesses and medications, deficiencies in potassium, calcium or magnesiumβ¦
π How can I prevent cramp?
π¦ Stretch well and stay hydrated. Get a massage to help your muscles stay in tip top condition.
π©ββοΈ Seek medical advice if you have severe discomfort when cramping, you cramp often, you have leg swelling or redness or if you are concerned.

πββοΈ π² πββοΈ What a fantastic day βs Tri in the Park! Another great event. There was a lovely atmosphere and lots of happy faces. I had a fun day doing post race treatments for kids and adults.
π π΄ π On Saturday Iβll be offering post race massage treatments at Cheltenham Tri in the Park which is organised by Cheltenham Triathlon Club. Itβs an adult and junior triathlon race taking place in Pitville Park.
π° Treatments will be Β£10 for ten minutes with all proceeds going to the Sue Ryder charity. An amazing charity that supports people living with a terminal illness or neurological condition or are struggling to cope with grief.

π Post massage advice. How to get maximum benefits from your treatment...
π’ DO get up slowly from the massage couch to avoid feeling faint.
π§ DO drink plenty of water to assist with rehydration and the detoxification process.
π· DO avoid toxins such as alcohol and caffeine as these will dehydrate your body.
π DO rest your body and avoid vigorous activity for at least 24 hours. Your muscles may feel sore for a couple of days after a sports massage as they are recovering.
π₯ DO avoid a heavy meal soon after the massage as it may make you feel bloated or lethargic.
πΏ DO avoid taking a hot shower soon after a massage. Hot water may increase muscle inflammation. A warm shower or bath will help the muscles to continue to relax, wait a few hours after the massage if possible.
π§ DO relax and rest your body and mind.
πͺ DO continue to stretch and strengthen your muscles in between your massage appointments.
