University hosts Warrington Pride event featuring art, talks and more University of Chester staff and students are hosting a range of exciting, free activities to celebrate Warrington Pride 2024.

This is one *just for staff and students* at the University of Chester on this occasion:

Refugee Week celebrates the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. Connect with others in our university community to take a simple act - to read - to understand the refugee experience. The LIS Libraries team invite you to explore our Sanctuary Collection series and join our Big Read summer reading group.

The Big Read for Refugee Week is Wandering Souls by Cecile Pin. Read the book for free via the Libby app between 20 May – 21 July, simply download the app and sign in with your university details. Share your reflections via the online discussion board or join us on Wednesday 19th June (1pm) to discuss the book in our comfy sofa area at Seaborne Library – just sign up to let us know you’re coming:

Saturday 8th June is Warrington Pride 2024!

We’re putting on a great program of activities at the Uni's Time Square building so please do come along if you’re free, it would be great to see you there. There’ll be a chance to visit the Rainbow Fire Engine of the Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, make a banner for the parade, hear a range of great speakers including the lead trustee of Liverpool Pride reflect on her experience of transition. We also have a local writer and poet sharing some of her poetry and one of our postgrad students speaking about Section 28.

This event brings together insights from professional healthcare practice and the lived experiences of LGBTQIA+ people to consider some of the issues and health inequalities many LGBTQIA+ people still face today.

It has been a bit quiet on this page, I apologise! The Diversity Festival this year has changed from a concentrated fortnight of events to a series of events throughout the year. Building on the success of our events so far this academic year (World Menopause Day event, International Men's Day event, Race Equality and Cultural Heritage Network event), our next event is International Women's Day. It is on 8th March at the Riverside Innovation Centre in Chester and is open to people of all genders to attend - all the information is on the flyer below. Theresa will discuss her experiences as both an international student and a blind student and explain the factors which made gaining her PhD possible. 1.00 to 3.00pm.

About the event: What is being done locally to ensure inclusion and a sense of belonging among refugees and asylum seekers? How can we act to make inclusion a reality?
While our specific focus in this event will be on the Ukrainian refugees, we will also ask whether comparable efforts are being made locally in support of asylum seekers and refugees from elsewhere.
We welcome a range of representatives who will each make a short presentation, followed by questions and general discussion.
