Here at ILS we are proud to be a Unesco Biosphere Isle of Man partner! As a company we are always looking for ways to reduce our impact on the world around us. We have a cycle to work scheme, paperless offices, recycling bins as well as other green initiatives across our global network of offices.

We are also a corporate partner for the Manx Wildlife Trust and last year we took part in some restorative projects across the island including helping to rebuild some wetlands for wildlife and tree planting. We plan to do some more projects this year so keep an eye out! 🌿

Our ILS charity of the year is also the Manx Bat Group , where we will be supporting the charity alongside learning more about bats across our island. 🦇

Today is World Bat Day, which is rather fitting as this year our Isle of Man office has voted to support the Manx Bat Group (charity number 443). We met with the the chairman Kevin Wells and their Treasurer Bob Moon earlier in the year to learn more about the work the charity undertakes.

The Manx Bat Group was formed in 1990 following the introduction of the Wildlife Act, which provided legal protection to Manx bats for the first time. The Bat Group was set up to promote the knowledge, study and welfare of bats in and around the Isle of Man.

Did you know that the Isle of Man is home to 9 different species of bats (that we know of!) and one fifth of all mammals on earth are bats! 🦇

Since its formation the Bat Group has organised a regular summer programme of public bat walks, bat box making days, training events and talks to various groups about bats. to find out more visit manxbatgroup.org

Locate Isle of Man

Cruse Bereavement Support Isle of Man was another of ILS’ charities of the year for 2023. The funds raised by our staff members will go towards operational costs in delivering bereavement support to children, young people and adults on the Isle of Man. An incredible amount of dedication from the Cruse team means that we all have someone to turn to when suffering with grief.

ILS World is committed to supporting charitable causes in our local community, we couldn't do this without the support of our team on the island, here are some of the highlights of charities we supported on the Isle of Man in 2023.

As a corporate sponsor of Manx Wildlife Trust we took part in a wild workday at Ballacosnaham Farm in Patrick, where we removed hundreds of old tyres, and took down an old fence, all on the hottest day of the year. It was a great team building event and we learnt a lot from the MWT team (who knew that it is only female horse flies that bite you?!). We were due to hold another event in October, but the weather unfortunately beat us, so we have rescheduled for March.

Our team on the island all have the opportunity to nominate a charity of the year, with everyone then voting for the one they want to support. Last year saw a tie in the vote between Cruse Bereavement Support Isle of Man and the ManxSPCA so we supported both! We were delighted to present them each with a cheque this week with money raised through dress down days and cake bakes. We support the Cruse Bereavment Support Isle of Man golf day every year and one of our own who is an ambassador for the charity, took part in their Swim 10k to raise £10k, she also made some Cruse Bereavement Support Isle of Man cakes to raise funds.

It isn’t all about donating money to charity, we provide pro-bono secretarial support and the use of our boardroom to the Diana Princess of Wales Hospice Care at Home Trust and The Arts Aid. This not only benefits the charities but gives some of the younger members of our team valuable experience working with them. A member of our team works with Junior Achievement IOM helping to judge their Company Programme competition, and another works with Manx Breast Cancer Support Group.

We supported Hospice Isle of Man by hosting a table at their fantastic 40-year anniversary dinner and dance at The Comis Hotel.

One of our team baked some branded cakes to help the Samaritans celebrate 70 years of listening on their awareness day, with the team also going green for the day. Cakes seem to be our thing, another batch were baked to raise funds for the Manx Breast Cancer Support Group Pink Day.

At Christmas we had some spare funds that we used to support lunches for the Southern Befrienders, The Castletown and District Over 60's Club and Age Concern Isle of Man.

We are in the process of nominating our charity of the year for 2024 and will announce the chosen one shortly 🙂

🦁 We've done our very best to email all island nurseries and schools last year so check your junk boxes and get back to us if you would like your school to take part in raising money for the ManxSPCA. You may even get a visit from our own giant animal!

The ManxSPCA was one of ILS’ charities of the year for 2023. The funds raised by our staff members will go towards much needed treatments, vet bills, care, food and much more to support the welfare of animals on the Isle of Man, big or small! An incredible amount of time and care goes into the animals in their care.

Two members of the ILS team in the Isle of Man have recently celebrated milestone anniversaries.

Client portfolio manager Karen Finan celebrated 20 years with the company in July, whilst client accountant Alex Gale reached his fifth anniversary. Both received vouchers from CEO Karen Jones at a celebratory dinner at Refuge last week

As a corporate supporter of the Manx Wildlife Trust a number of our team volunteered to spend the day at Ballacosnahan Farm in Patrick, home of the largest flock of Manx Loaghtan Sheep farmed by the aptly named Jenny Shepherd. The project is seeking to revitalise the wetland on the flood plain of the River Neb and return it to a more natural state

Guided by the extremely knowledgeable David Bellamy (we learnt a lot about nature, who knew it is only female horseflies that bite you?), Lamara Craine and Graham Makepeace-Warne our tasks were to remove a pile of old vehicle tyres buried over the years in a pile of mud to stop erosion at the junction of a ditch, and to take down a line of sheep and barbed wire fencing, which will enable the sheep to graze freely.

Despite picking the hottest day of the year ☀️ we had a great day and look forward to returning in the future to see how the project progresses.
