St Magnus Cathedral, Kirkwall, Orkney

St Magnus Cathedral, built from red and yellow sandstone, is of international significance. This ‘fine minster’ took about 300 years to build, the foundations starting in 1137. It was dedicated to Magnus Erlendsson, Earl of Orkney. He shared the earldom with his cousin, Haakon Paulsson, but jealousy and greed culminated in Magnus being martyred on the island of Egilsay. His bones are now interred within a pillar in the cathedral.

Glen etive is thee best place to see the majestic stags in all their glory.

It also features in the james bond movie skyfall.

The scenery there at this time of the year is absolutely stunning.

1. Incredible sights

During the winter the Scottish scenery is awe inspiring and secluded. With the deer roaming free and snow dusting the Mountains its an incredible sight. There is also the chance to see the northern lights in all there glory.

2. Festive fun

We have lots of Christmas markets taking place all over the country. Great place to get that 1 of a kind gift.
January 25th is burns night, you can experience bagpipes, ceilidh dancing and not to forget our world famous haggis and these events.

3. Winter sports

For the sports enthusiasts there are 5 ski resorts in Scotland that are a must to try out. There is also snowboarding and sledging available.

4. Off season rates

Campsites offer lower rates from November to February. You can enjoy the winter scenery at a much lower cost.
The ferries that run between islands are also at reduced prices.
