‘Two million cats not microchipped’ as deadline looms Owners found not to have microchipped their pet by Monday face a fine of up to £500.

As of Monday 10th June, it will be compulsory to have your cat microchipped...

The new rules means that cats must be microchipped before they reach the age of 20 weeks, except for unowned cats like feral and community cats. Indoor-only cats must be microchipped as well. As part of the new rules, you must keep your contact details up to date on a Defra-approved microchipping database.

If you miss the June deadline, the new law states you'll have 21 days to have your cat microchipped, or you may face a fine of up to £500.

The microchipping law is only being introduced in England at the current time, but we will continue to campaign for this same approach to be introduced in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. We recommend you get your cat microchipped wherever you live.

An important message from Midwarwickshire Cats Protection that applies all round! 🐈‍⬛

KITTENS. Yesterday we saw posts on local Facebook sites in Hatton and Claverdon advertising kittens for sale. Please note it is illegal to advertise cats and kittens for sale on social media unless you are a rescue charity. The cost of these kittens was £90. Please note that for £115 you will get a CP kitten that has been vet checked, blood tested for FIV and FELV, had treatment for fleas and worms, been chipped, had at least their first vaccination and will have been neutered (or you will get a full cost voucher towards the cost of neutering). Please note that from 10 June all cats should be chipped. If you purchase kittens from breeders it just encourages people to keep breeding kittens. The cost of all the treatment we give is around is £280 and most importantly they have been signed off by a vet. Please beware when purchasing kittens from a private source as the first time you go to the vets you will get a large bill. Also ensure that kittens are 8 weeks old or more and fully weaned.
