Brackenfield School
Brackenfield School is a warm and friendly independent day school for 2-11 year old boys and girls.
Yesterday, the children had a very special visit from our ex-bracken and Olympian, George Mills🏃♂️.
The children were thrilled to speak to George and hear all about his amazing experience at the Paris Olympics. George is the epitome of our Brackenfield values: kindness, confidence, initiative, respect, honesty, and especially, perseverance. We couldn’t be prouder of all he has achieved.
Thank you so much for visiting us, George; it was wonderful to have you back! 💚
Ripon Workhouse Museum
Yesterday, years 1 and 2 had a wonderful day travelling back in time to the Victorian era at the workhouse museum in Ripon. The children had the opportunity to engage in a wide range of immersive activities, including experiencing a realistic Victorian classroom, learning the process of hand-washing laundry, and working together to bake traditional homemade bread.
It was a great experience for the children, and they had a lovely day😊.
Year 3 had a wonderful time yesterday afternoon in their forest school session. They enjoyed time around the campfire, exploring our new pond area, and using different tools to cut up wood.🌳
Our Forest School sessions are enjoyed by children from every year group. From Nursery to Year 6, our pupils can spend time outdoors, where they can learn new skills. They learn how to build dens, make woodland art, and often use the campfire for outdoor cooking. The benefits of learning outdoors are in abundance as children develop their teamwork and collaboration skills, imagination, and curiosity, but above all, being outdoors benefits their well-being.
We are excited to invite you to our next Open Morning on Friday 20th September.
During the morning, you will have the opportunity to meet with Mr. Masterson, our Headmaster, as well as our wonderful staff, who will be available to answer any questions you may have. There will also be an opportunity for you to look around our school, nursery and facilities.
To register your interest, please fill out our online form here: https://orlo.uk/Kd7Rf
We look forward to welcoming you to Brackenfield soon!👋
*If you are unable to attend our open day, please feel free to get in touch. We are more than happy to accommodate a visit at a time that suits you. After all, "every day is an open day" here at Brackenfield.
This week in their science lesson, our year 6 class has been learning about the invention of the microscope and how they work🔬.
During their lesson, they then took the microscopes outside to investigate the different things they could find around the playground, putting into practice what they had learned in the classroom.
A great lesson year 6 - well done! 😊
Last week our year 5 class had a brilliant day gorge walking at How Stean.
They were full of enthusiasm and demonstrated remarkable effort as they engaged in a variety of activities within the gorge. Each year we are fortunate to have the opportunity to visit the gorge, and the children always have a great time.
Well done, year 5! What a positive start to the year!😊

This morning, our reception class enjoyed their first games lesson of the year. The children had lots of fun learning the rules and techniques of tag rugby and were actively engaged in the different activities.
Well done Reception; a great start to the week! 😊
The junior department has made a great start with their games sessions this week.
Years 5 and 6 enthusiastically participated in tag rugby on the school field, demonstrating remarkable teamwork skills. Meanwhile, the children in Years 4 and 5 engaged in their first lacrosse PE session of the term, where they successfully learned the techniques of throwing and receiving the ball.
The commitment and effort displayed by everyone involved made it a wonderful start to the term. Well done!😊
We are delighted to welcome our pupils, both old and new, back to Brackenfield today for the start of the Autumn term 👋.
It has been wonderful to hear about all their summer adventures and we are looking forward to a busy term here at Brackenfield filled with opportunities both in and outside the classroom 💚.
Ahead of the opening ceremony tonight for the 2024 Paris Olympics, we want to wish our ‘Bracken Alumni’, George Mills, all the best for his first ever Olympics games. George will be competing in both the 1500m along with the 5km 🏃♂️.
Wow, what an achievement George! Your hard work and perseverance have brought you this far and we couldn’t be prouder. You are a true inspiration to us all.
Best of luck!💚
The first week of the summer club was full of fun and laughter. The children enjoyed a woodland walk, campfire pizza cooking, lots of time outdoors, and the ever-popular water day.
The summer club will carry on with more exciting activities this week 😊.
Last week, the wet weather unfortunately stopped our year 2 class from staging their annual mini-sports day at Manor House. Instead, the children joined the residents indoors to play games of noughts and crosses, draw portraits of them, and read books together. Seeing the lounge full of smiles and laughter between the residents and the children was lovely 😊.
We look forward to continuing our strong links with both Manor House and Hampden House during the next school year 💚.

Trip to Saltburn🏖️.
Yesterday, Years 1 to 6 headed to the seaside for their annual trip to Saltburn. They had a great time on the beach, playing, paddling, and building things in the sand. To end the day, everyone enjoyed a delicious ice cream🍦.
It was a wonderful day for all😊!
Infant cookout🌳🏕️,
On Monday evening, Years 1 and 2 enjoyed a cookout after school. They spent the evening around the campfire singing songs, toasting marshmallows, and enjoying many lovely activities. They made nature wands, took part in a nature scavenger hunt, and finally ended the night with hot chocolate and a story in their pyjamas.
A lovely evening was had by all 😊.
Here is a song from our Brackenfield Infant summer production called ‘A Life on This Planet’.🌳🌍
The children have been working very hard this week in rehearsals before their debut performance to parents, grandparents, and friends yesterday and this morning.
'A Life on This Planet' is a performance about honouring the extraordinary life to date of Sir David Attenborough. The play will take you on a journey from Sir Attenborough's early years to his invaluable contributions in the present day.
We hope everyone who has watched the show enjoyed the performance😊.
Last week, our nursery went on a fun-filled holiday adventure🏖️✈️.
Each child brought a suitcase packed with swim costumes, sun cream, towels, and exciting beach toys. They boarded the plane and took turns being the pilot and passengers. After the short journey, they arrived at their holiday destination. There were pools, a beach, and plenty of inflatables to enjoy. The afternoon ended with the children enjoying mocktails and delicious ice cream🍦🍹.
What a perfect day!☀️
Our FOBS team organized a wonderful summer fair for our families last Saturday 🍕🧁.
The children could enjoy various inflatables, football and garden games, glitter tattoos, and much more. There were also lots of delicious treats and wood-fired pizzas for everyone to enjoy!
Thank you to our FOBS team for such a fantastic event, which was enjoyed by all. It was great to see so many of our families in attendance💚.
Reception Superhero Day🦸♀️🦸♂️.
Yesterday, our reception class spent the day as superheroes. The morning began with the children designing their capes, masks, and power cuffs. In the afternoon, the children went onto the lawn to participate in fun superhero games. They played ‘What’s the Time, Mr. or Miss Superhero’, completed an obstacle course, played superhero hide and seek, and saved teddies from hidden points in the garden.
What an incredible day of fun and learning! ⭐️
⠀
Our Year 3 and 4 classes participated in the First Mathematics Challenge (FMC) this week. The FMC allows children to engage in enjoyable yet challenging mathematical tasks.
We were very impressed by the perseverance demonstrated by all the children. Congratulations to those who received certificates for their accomplishments, and well done to everyone who participated 😊.
Today we had our 'moving up morning’ for the children, preparing them for their transition up the school in September.
There was lots of excitement as they moved up to their new year groups, transitioned to new classrooms, and met with their new teachers in readiness for September.
It was a lovely morning for all😊.
Today, we had a delightful morning with our nursery and infant departments for our Father's Day breakfast.
The children served croissants, presented their special cards and gifts, and finished with a sneak preview of the Infant Summer production.
We hope our special visitors enjoyed their morning as much as the children did! Thank you all for coming🥐☕💙.
This morning, our year 4 class joined year 2 for a reading session. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to listen attentively and show support for their younger peers. The session was a great way for the children to interact across different year groups and strengthen our family ethos here at Brackenfield.
Well done everyone! 📚
Our Year 5 and 6 pupils have all safely made it to Paris 🇫🇷.
Today they had a fabulous time visiting the Eiffel Tower while also enjoying the lovely warm weather. It looks like they are having a super time ☀️!
