This week's video is mostly about council tax, and particularly the proposal for Huntingdon Town Council's portion of the council tax to go up by 15%.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:
Hotel Chocolat would like to meet with local residents to discuss some of the ongoing concerns around the site operations.
This is a really good opportunity to speak about how we are currently being affected by noise, light etc, to find out more about their plans, and to try to limit any further issues.
The meeting is likely to be on a Tuesday or Wednesday, timing is flexible. I would suggest something like 6pm but we are open to suggestions.
Sorry but this is not the place to discuss a replacement dog walking area as this is down to Huntingdon Town Council and I would suggest you contact them directly.
If you are being disturbed by noise, light or any other issues from the factory or if you are concerned about the loss of trees/biodiversity, please come along with me to discuss how we are being affected.
This is a great opportunity to get things sorted going forward.
Please comment below or DM either Cllr Marion Kadewere or myself if you'd like to come along so we have an idea of numbers.
The more the merrier :)
Thank you.

Hello hello hello! It's the first day of the year and time for my first video of the year, mostly looking at what's I'm going to be trying to cover in the year ahead.

*🥕BRING THE WOODEN CARROT HOME TO HUNTINGDON🥕*

Cambridgeshire Young Farmers are having their annual competition to see which branch wins the coveted Wooden Carrot Trophy by getting most likes for their photo. All you have to do defend the honour of Huntingdon is head over to https://www.facebook.com/CambsYoungFarmers/posts/pfbid034LgieEnr3p97LNTfreqhvgdAtkxkYzV4PqkTHpnhZnmB1nQQRDkdZ8dsndeg125ql and like the fourth photo.

Remember: if you don't vote, March might win - a fate too awful to contemplate.

I usually post video updates on Sundays - I haven't this week or last week because of a mixture of the day job and, well, it's Christmas! 🎅

I do have some things that I do want to update about, but I'm going to leave it until the break between Christmas and New Year. I'm thinking of doing a couple of videos - one covering the council and so on for December, and another one looking ahead at what's coming up in 2024.

I hope that's OK with everyone. I'm thinking about changing the day I do the videos, but I'll think about that another time.

Facebook reminds me that I joined Huntingdon Town Council two years ago today. It's had it's frustrations, but I do think it's worthwhile and I like to think I've made some minor but solid improvements. Thankyou to everyone, particularly Mrs DLC, who's helped along the way :)

This is fantastic news - Centre 33 - supporting young people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough are a wonderful organisation who do life-changing - frankly, life-saving - work in Huntingdon. They're currently spread over three sites, so a new hub for them is terrific. If you do have any furniture or furnishings going spare, do please consider Centre 33.

It's Sunday evening and time for my regular video update!

My notes for my outside bodies reports -

Huntingdon Volunteer Centre

1. Couldn’t make last meeting 17 Oct due to work
2. This has been an issue for reps from other councils, so they’re looking at holding regular briefings for us instead – vg
3. Main issues remain needing more volunteers, particularly for the Huntingdon branch, and more space, particularly an office
4. Review of all their policies, going round to trustees before signoff
5. Improving social media presence, esp FB and NextDoor, and this has brought three new volunteers.
6. Developing a new website
7. AGM – need to think about how to get more members to the AGM
8. Future meetings scheduled, AGM poss July 2024

Huntingdon First

Meeting 28th September.

AGM will be on 9th November at 0900 at the Commemoration Hall

- Licence for deckchairs in place to put on street (previous uses were events)
- Outdoor speakers – Natasha leading – waiting to see if HDC want us to have planning permission
- Waiting for HDC to sign off funding for a mural on the multi storey
- There is ÂŁ150k left in the pot for shopfront grants (H and St I)
- Digital screens will be coming ready for summer 24; BID will manage and update content
- Visitors’ centre is progressing; delay was listed building consent. Opening later in November. Huntingdon merch being sold
- Town trails – leaflet available, maps going up, kids version being produced. Focuses on the town centre, and doesn’t really do heritage
- It was pointed out that BID had not had a response from HTC to the letter asking for support for the centre
- Halloween event seems to have gone well
- Xmas - Footfall was up last year but not a huge amount - probably because of Xmas anyway rather than the attractions. Were trying to do fayre on the square every weekend of Xmas, but market manager said not possible to get people. Will have music, dancing polar bear. Nothing on two weekends before Xmas except entertainers
- 6 July for something that is nothing to do with pirates, dinosaurs, or dinosaur pirates.
