Ultra Processed People
A must read for anyone and everyone! Ultra processed foods by Chris Van Tulleken shines a light on the dark workings of the food industry and the disturbing tactics used to keep us addicted to foods that are harmful to our health. Tulleken challenges academic research that has been sponsored by food industry tycoons and raises awareness of an industry shrouded in secrecy. Itโs quite a heavy read but very much worth the effort, packed full of interesting science, economics and history. ๐ฅค๐ฌ๐ฉ๐ฐ๐ฅซ๐๐
I strongly believe that we should all take responsibility for our health and learn about what foods we put into our bodies and how they affect us. This book is a real eye opener and a great way to educate yourself about Ultra processed foods and how they contribute to chronic health conditions. ๐ฌ

I have always struggled with my mental health especially in winter, and for as long as I can rememberย have suffered from quite severe SAD (seasonal affective disorder)ย Each october i know a change is coming and as the nights become longer and darker I sink into a deeper darker depression. I am uninterested in life, have no motivation, feel lethargic and weep. I weep alot.
This winter has so far been quite different for me. A kind individual recommended that I read a book called Wintering by Katherine May and I must say I found it quite inspiring.
Katherine May shines a different perspective on winter encouraging us to embrace the season for what it is,ย she reminds us that it is ok to slow down during the colder and darker months just like the rest of nature does and to find comfort and peace in 'wintering' The stories and lessons in this book have guided me,ย in some sense to become a part of winter instead of fighting against it.
I cut back on work and have allowed myself to enjoy hibernating in front of my wood burner with several good books and good food. I have been forcing myself to wrap up and get outside In the light and start appreciating what winter has to offer us and I feel so much better for it ๐
This book has given me a gentle nudge into spending time reflecting on the whole process of winter and opened my eyes to how beautiful it can be. A must read for anyone out there who struggles with the darker months ๐ค
Recently there has been a lot of controversy surrounding an episode of dragons den. The women pitching stated a combination of acupuncture, ear seeds, diet and Chinese herbs aided in her recovery from ME/CFS.
Since the episode aired there has been much debate around what she has said with many people statingย that she's saying earseeds and traditional therapies have cured her ME/CFS.
I would like to highlight the fact that there is a big difference between Recovery and Cure.
In a health perspective recovery can be defined as 'the process off becoming well again after illness or injury.' It is possible for people to feel well again without being cured. Recovery means diffrent things to different people.
Many people find that traditional therapies such as acupunctureย and other complementary therapies can help in their recovery from ME/CFS however this is by treating the body holistically which in turn can help in managing the symptoms of the illness as opposed to curing a disease.
Using ear seeds will not cure anything but can be used effectively in certain situations to help with symptom management, they are commonly applied by an acupuncturistย ย inbetween appointments usually to help with pain, sleep or anxiety.
Acupuncturists usually don't charge anything to apply ear seeds as they are so inexpensive. You can buy them in bulk for little cost.
A concern of mine is that on the Episode we are told that the product costs ยฃ3 to produce but retails for ยฃ30. Of course dragons den is all about investing in businesses that will make a good profit however charging extortionate prices and marketing it towards vulnerable people when earseeds can be purchased for much less just dosent sit right with me.
We also need to bear in mind that ME/CFS is a complex health condition and while their are a lot of similarities between those who suffer with it there are also a lot of differences. What works for some people may not work for others and each individuals journey is diffrent and that's ok ๐ฅฐ
