This week is Loneliness Awareness Week. Helene Cross, our Clinical Support Specialist at Loveday, shares some insights on the importance of improving social isolation.
'Social isolation poses significant risks to mental health and cognitive function. Prolonged social isolation can be associated with cognitive decline and a higher risk of developing conditions like dementia and Alzheimer's disease.
Addressing social isolation requires building social connections and supportive communities, creating meaningful relationships, participating in social activities, and seeking support when needed. Friendships and social connections are important for all of us, at every stage of life.'

Loveday work closely with companies designing products for care providers. Using Loveday as a lab, we are testing new care technology in our own homes, as often they are designed but are not fit for purpose. One of the technologies we are currently trialing is Nobi's smart lights which have reduced falls by an astounding 84%, with 100% fall detection. With its sophisticated AI-model and cutting-edge technology, falls can be communicated from patient to the nurse on duty.
Yesterday at Loveday, our team delivered cupcakes to some of our key hospital nurses to thank them for their support on International Nurses Day.
We can't thank the nurses we work with enough for all of the hard work and dedication they put in to the care they give. Thank you for being outstanding and giving as much as you do.
The survey shows a lack of knowledge and preparedness regarding the process of arranging care, with only 24% claiming to be knowledgeable about the process.
At Loveday, we stress the importance of education, open conversations and accessible resources to empower individuals in navigating the difficulties of later life planning.

It's a pleasure to be part of such important research.
Loveday Abbey Road has collaborated with the American School in London, which is based locally, to facilitate intergenerational connections.
This innovative partnership features a variety of activities such as musical performances, art workshops, readings, and gardening programmes. Over the past six years, Loveday has successfully facilitated friendships between its Members, many living with dementia, and younger generations. These initiatives, including ballet performances and interactive games, have enriched all involved.
The programme benefits both parties, injecting vitality into Loveday while providing students with valuable experiences and insights from older adults.
At Loveday, care is at our core. In what we do and how we do it.
