It has been proposed that training interventions should implement resistance and balance exercises associated with movements needed in everyday life, following the principle of “train the movement, not the muscle.” However, this strength training philosophy presents challenges, and the use of resistance machines might present an efficacious alternative… the current data supports that significant strength and functional performance outcomes are attainable using uncomplicated, machine-based resistance training.

As always, we need volunteers for our upcoming powerlifting meets. Volunteering is a great way to earn early entry points for yourself. All PC volunteers accumulate club points, which not only benefit you personally but also increase the number of spots available to our club for future meets. The more points we collect, the more spaces we secure.
In this study, we found three things:
1) The protein RDA is insufficient to support higher rates of muscle protein synthesis (again, but it seems the RDA will never change)
2) Whey and pea protein provided as a supplement to older men (not exercising) were effective in stimulating MPS.
3) Collagen was NOT (again, we and others have shown collagen to be largely useless) useful for muscle
Take away:
Older men (and likely women, too) need more protein than the RDA to support muscle as they age. Plant and animal-based supplements are equally effective. Collagen is not useful for muscles.
