A huge thanks to all our incredible Plan Zheroes volunteers. 💚
Last month, they held 27 collections, saving an impressive 4.5kg of surplus food, which is equivalent to 10.6k meals. 426kg of rescued food was distributed through 28 bike deliveries to local organisations. Thirty-nine of our traders donated produce, and ten organisations received donations.

Can you guess which famous film series features The Globe? Here's a hint: it's home to a certain iconic bachelorette pad! 💭
Built in 1872 and designed by renowned Victorian architect Henry Jarvis, The Globe Tavern is set in a distinctive Gothic-style building. Following extensive refurbishment in 2015, the interior is modern with an extensive array of lagers, real and craft ales. 🍻
Headed up by Elizabeth Haigh, Mei Mei specialises in dishes from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. Inspired by Singaporean ‘kopi tiams’ (coffee shops), the menu sees the likes of Hainanese chicken rice, Kaya toast and Malaysian breakfast staple ‘nasi lemak’ (a fragrant coconut rice dish) 🥥🍚

Taiwanese favourite BAO Borough is the third permanent BAO restaurant from founders Shing Tat Chung, Wai Ting Chung and Erchen Chang.
The menu is inspired by the late-night grill establishments often populated by commuters across Asia – as well as the founders’ own stories, upbringing and travels around Asia – serving dishes such as chicken nugget bao, beef meatball, fried egg, and Borough curry. BAO Borough is also home to BAO KTV – BAO’s first karaoke room – and has one of the few Suntory highball machines in the UK, pouring whisky and sodas that bubble like champagne.
Head down to Market Hall today to support Southwark Council Young Entrepreneurs! Students from local secondary schools will be selling their wares as part of a programme to teach them enterprise skills. All profits will be donated to the students’ chosen charities. 🛍️
Last week we hosted our Young Marketeers Summer sale, in partnership with School Food Matters. Students from local schools became market traders for the day, selling school-grown fruit and veg. 👩🌾
The students raised £595 for Plan Zheroes, a charity that stops surplus food from going to waste, and gets it to those that really need it. 💚

Sticky tahini & sweet chilli aubergines - Bettina Campolucci Bordi
This is the dish that will make you fall in love with aubergines, highlighting their versatility and ability to absorb rich flavours. When grilled, the aubergines develop a tender, creamy texture with a slightly smoky char, enhancing their natural taste. The addition of sweet chilli sauce creates a sticky contrast, giving the dish a jammy coating that complements the aubergines perfectly. Tahini adds a nutty, creamy element, while fresh mint leaves provide a burst of herbal notes. Pine nuts and pomegranate seeds add crunch and sprinkles of sweetness, making this a mouthwatering dish!

Rice noodle & mango herb salad recipe from Bettina Campolucci Bordi 🥗
Mango season is my favourite, so when I was asked to create a side dish that’s perfect for a barbecue, this flavour combination was the first thing that came to mind. It certainly beats a potato salad, if I do say so myself! Whether you’re a seasoned cook or a novice, it is easy to prepare and sure to impress. Its vibrant colours, refreshing flavours, and satisfying textures make it a perfect dish for any occasion. Enjoy the process of creating this salad, knowing that each ingredient has been carefully chosen and sourced from a market that values quality and sustainability.

While researching her debut book, The Happiest Diet in the World, food writer thought a lot about the relationship between food, health and happiness. One of her conclusions is that, when it comes to living a long, healthy life, human connection is as powerful a force as good nutrition. And that human connection is something she finds in abundance at Borough Market. 💛
She spent a day at Borough exploring the stalls and talking to traders about how markets bring people closer not just to the food they eat but to the people who make and sell it. You can read the results in her heartwarming new article here: https://brnw.ch/21wKzNQ
