has a lot of fans as a supplement that aids anxiety ,stress and insomnia.

Excited by things I’d seen on the internet I took 60 days of a liposomal magnesium l threonate supplement ( I found on Amazon ) and then 60 days of magenhance a more well known branded Magnesium supplement ( also available on Amazon and other health food shops)

Magenhance is a mix of Magnesium glycinate Magnesium Taurate and Magnesium L threonate ( the recommended portion size for Magenhance was much less in terms of total magnesium dose - along the scale of 200 mg versus 2000 mg in the pure Magnesium l threonate supplement ( which was also more expensive to buy).

Found the liposomal magnesium l threonate put me to sleep within 60 minutes of a capsule. It made a huge improvement to my nighttime routine whereas Magenhance at the recommended dose didn’t seem to impact me at all in terms of sleep or stress tolerance improvement at all over a 60 day test period.

This is a purely anecdotal, self experiment not medical advice . However a lot of people struggle with insomnia so wanted to share my results !

Before this I’d read a fair few studies on mood, metabolic and cognitive benefits of magnesium but had only ever supplemented using Magnesium oxide which was cheap and cheerful but ( likely due to poor absorption) did nothing at all for me.

Magnesium L threonate is a type of Magnesium that penetrates the blood brain barrier really well which is why it seems to have much more beneficial effects on mood as well as sleep than other types of Magnesium.

I put a lot of value in experiential knowledge and patient’s ideas and saw this on Twitter and was fascinated.

Conventional medical knowledge says it’s impossible to reverse severe osteoporosis with diet and lifestyle yet this patient claims to have managed it.

High protein diets are advantageous in osteoporosis as in combination with weight training can certainly build up muscle that would support weakened bones but putting aside the conventional medical evidence I am really happy this person found an approach to help herself via nutrition and lifestyle and think there should be more research into dietary treatments for osteoporosis as she says; this high protein diet cures….?

Diet obviously has a huge impact on health but the science of nutrition sadly isn’t a big part of medical training.

ACNE SCARS

Question ; What treatments help with acne scars?
Answer ; In my opinion and experience the gold standard is the prp or vampire facial with microneedling. 80~90% reduction in scarring can be achieved with a course of three facials.

People prone to cystic acne often have sensitive skin or dietary sensitivities to foods like coffee chocolate sugar or fizzy drinks. Hormonal imbalance can play a part and if an underlying condition like poly cystic ovaries has caused skin problems sometimes going on the oral contraceptive pill will be prescribed by your GP and this will help skin as part of normalising hormone levels.

It’s important to use a combination of prevention of acne by lifestyle measures and good skincare or medical facials likely will not give satisfactory results.

Moisturising and exfoliating skin even once every few days will prevent dead skin blocking pores which contributes to the pustule formation that characterises cystic acne.

Collagen and high dose biotin and vitamin C supplements help prevent acne and heal scars from previous attacks.

Once outbreaks are no longer a problem the characteristic pocked scars can be removed via prp with microneedling or laser ablation.
