Meet the staff that are inspired by your fertility journeys 💜

Daniel Pass, deputy general manager for the Gynaecology, Sexual Health, Reproductive and Retroviral Medicine directorate at Hammersmith Hospital, has worked at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust for over a decade. Having started as front line admin up to senior management.

When asked about his role and what inspired him to continue working in our services he shared, “I have worked at the Trust for about 12 years in total. I have always been inspired in each of my roles by those working around me.

“I’m also inspired by the patients that approach our services and give us the opportunity to support their family planning journey. Our team take an approach that’s centred around evidence and transparency, and it’s rewarding to be a part of facilitating this journey for our patients.”

“Our team is responsible for both NHS and private care pathways. My main involvement is across our reproductive medicine service which offers fertility investigations and infertility treatments, such as IVF, to patients who require it. We offer specialised care with highly skilled professionals to ensure the optimal clinical outcomes are delivered to our patients as quickly as possible.”

Please join us in wishing Annie a farewell as she sets off for her retirement after 25 years working at the Trust!

Annie Gilson joined us in November 1998 and spent her time working across parts of the Trust in various inpatient and outpatient roles. Annie has been an extremely valued member of the team and has truly made a lasting impact living our values and working with us to support patients through the years.

As a proud mother and grandmother to two young boys, she looks forward to spending plenty of quality time with them. She also plans to travel around the UK and abroad. We wish her all the best and she will no doubt be missed by many.

Following Care Quality Commission inspections in March 2023, we are delighted to share that our maternity services continue to be rated as outstanding. This rating covers both our NHS and private maternity services.

Tim Orchard, chief executive of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, said: “This outstanding rating is testament to the hard work and commitment of our staff, who should be very proud.

"I'm particularly pleased that the inspectors highlighted how staff work well together, the importance we place on engaging with our community and, most of all, how we are focused on the needs of patients.

“There is of course much work still to do as we continue on our journey to becoming the Trust we want to be - and know we can be. I am incredibly grateful to our teams who continue to go above and beyond every day to provide high quality care for our patients."

A brief look at the history of The Lindo Wing...

The Lindo Wing was opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth on 10 November 1937, before the establishment of the NHS, as a private patients’ wing.

After the NHS started running St Mary’s Hospital on 5 July 1948, The Lindo Wing took on the role of providing private hospital care and became very popular with members of society, politicians and entertainers, including the then prime minister, Clement Attlee.

Sir George Pinker, royal gynaecologist and obstetrician from 1973 until 1990, was responsible for moving royal births from palaces to a hospital setting. He delivered nine royal babies in The Lindo Wing, including Princess Anne. His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales was born in The Lindo Wing on 21 June 1982; His Royal Highness Prince Henry of Wales (Prince Harry) on 15 September 1984; His Royal Highness Prince George of Cambridge on 22 July 2013; Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge on 2 May 2015, and His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge on 23 April 2018.

All funds generated by our private care services are now re-invested back into the Trust to support both NHS and private services. This means that our private care services directly support improvements in care for all our patients.

In 2022/23, our private care facilities and staff also supported the NHS more directly by providing over 1,500 bed nights of care for NHS patients across all three sites to help respond to emergency pressures.
