Another mad pair of earrings! No idea who made them. I do love earrings! ostumejewellerylondon
Found these in a drawer - part of a job lot I bought 10 years ago - how time flies! Great for a party or evening out! out
Latest on web site - early Icuala Mexico wide silver bracelet. In my collection for years but time to pass it on.
I am very sorry to have to tell you that one of our Vintage Modes dealers - June Victor - has died. Everyone at Alfies Antiques is devastated as we were not expecting this. June was so well known for the quality and variety of her stock - but also for her willingness to share this extensive knowledge. I have known June from the days we used to stall out at Covent Garden Market - and then from our time in The Mews at Grays Antiques - and she was always happy to advise me when I asked. I think we are all finding it difficult to come to terms with this very sad event - she will be sorely missed.
Never had a piece from the TopShelfJewelery.store before. They are based in New York. This brooch has 12 hearts hanging down - some enamelled - in addition to cupids and doves! Quite amazing!
Nearly as big as mother. When she is not there they 'hide' so difficult to get picture. Hopefully they will start moving about soon! time
A Tokalon, Lalique design, French small Pierrot powder compact from the Art Deco period. www.gillianhorsup.com
Oh this does need tidying up! Sinuses still a nuisance so it will have to wait! I love all these odd pieces -such fun to put together.
Oh - I was lucky this morning. Here is one if the babies. So big already. I am so lucky to have this view out of my kitchen window.
Good new - Mrs. Pigeon has finally given birth! 2 chicks. Just about caught sight of them. Although she is only a metre from the kitchen window she stands with her back to me obscuring my view. Defending them I expect. Will, try to get picture. Only seen their heads. Thought They would never arrive!
Interested to find out that Morpho butterflies were used to make this sort of jewellery. Dead butterflies were used - which I am glad about - I have 2 beautiful pictures and am releaved to read that. The glass is reverse painted and the wings used for colouring. The effect is amazing! Popular in the first half of the 20th century. - effect
Have the worst sinus infection I can remember and want to do nothing - not even look at a piece of jewellery! My Robin friend sits patiently for me to stop sneezing before he will come anywhere near me for breakfast. Wise bird. The wood pigeon on her nest above my head is wasting her time I think. Over 22 days now - much too long. She will probably soon give up. Such a pity I was looking forward to seeing the babies. a rest
Art Deco black and diamante bar brooch. So elegant! Probably galalith on white metal. On website.
Just given these large earrings a dust. Remind me of a French designer but they are not marked. Clips of course.
I do love Marie Christine Pavone's work. She has a sense of humour. Clip earrings made a couple of years old. e
She is so pretty - hand painted on porcelain. The tiara, headband and earrings are raised. That pink dress and necklace! Want to keep her for a short while. Not my usual stock but could not resist.
We do have other items besides jewellery. Wish I had more room for objects they are such fun! Love the little glasses -what would you put in them?
Nothing seems to go to plan. My builder will be returning to fix upstairs window and needs to use ladder. In the meantime a pair of wood pigeons have decided to nest in my camelia just outside the kitchen window - just where we need to put the ladder! They are not worried about me. They have a constant supply of food dropping from bird feeder and are safe from magpies etc. The ladder will have to wait. For how long I wonder!
It's no good - too hot for me to get enthusiastic about pieces of jewellery! Even too warm in the garden until late afternoon. The robins and I enjoyed the cooler breeze. Hopefully it will be cooler tomorrow and I can put my mind to what I should be doing! lazy
Well it would be lovely to have pleasant sunny day rather than the heat in London today - but I suppose that is the U.K! I want to be at home feeding the robins! This is the view from the outside window separating our two shops. Someone has done a good job tidying up the balcony! I wonder how many people will brave the heat and visit Alfies? Good to sit on the Cafe balcony with a cold drink.
Do other dealers have the same problem? Sometimes I just cannot part with an item I have just bought. This might be temporary - and I am happy to part with it after a bit - after looking at it lots. Sometimes it just has to stay with me - and I have then to find something else to part with. I cannot just accumulate the stock for myself! The green necklace is staying for a while -so easy to wear - and I am fascinated with the markings. (See previous post). I wonder for how long - or will it be permanent!
Should be putting things on the website -and other jobs - but the sun is shining and the robins want their lunch. So long as I sit still. They are very demanding and stare at me until I oblige. Mealworms please. The sparrows are happy with seeds from a feeder. So lovely to see them - never mind the jobs!
Can anyone tell me what this is? Unusual crisscross pattern. Is it stone or glass? know
Anyone like giraffes? Quite a large brooch. Not had one like it before. brooch brooch
Bliss - take me back please! light
I have always wanted to go to the Eden Centre but could never get organised! Finally taken time off work and got there - and so glad I did. Of course it rained and it was half term but nothing could spoil the wonder of walking through the domes. One thing off my list of things to see and do. organised it happen
Couldn't resist them. Love the shoes. earrings out
Love this prystal apple juice bakelite and chrome dress clip from around the 1930s. To be correct it is Catalin rather than bakelite. When the patent on bakelite expired the Catalin Corporation started to make a similar resin but with changes that allowed it to make more colours etc. People still call it bakelite much as they call all vacuum cleaners 'Hoover'. This translucent yellow apple juice bakelite contains 'confetti' giving it sparkles. I don't think it was made for a long period and has become quite collectible. I would wear it on a chain round my neck! bakeliteandchromedressclip
A couple of days away in glorious sunshine! In a friend's garden on edge of New Forest. Need more time away! &T
