Ambassador Ximena Fuentes was delighted to visit the CODELCO CHILE and Chile Copper offices in London.

During the visit, Chief Executive of Codelco Services, Juan Ignacio Pérez, and his team shared insights on their efforts to strengthen Chile’s copper industry on a global stage. ⛏️🌎

Yesterday, a ceremony was held in Richmond Upon Thames to honour the birth of Chilean liberator Bernardo O'Higgins. Colonel Pablo Lizama, Chilean Military Attaché in the UK and Ambassador Ximena Fuentes highlighted the significant influence O'Higgins' time in the UK had on his commitment to Chile's independence, emphasising the lasting impact of his connections with British and Latin American intellectuals. The event celebrated O'Higgins' legacy and the deep historical ties between Chile and the UK. 🇨🇱 🇬🇧

Come join us at the Embassy of Chile as we present 'Suite 1967: The Forgotten Road', a mesmerising musical composition for cello by the talented Chilean musician and composer Pablo Lavins. 🎻

The piece consists of 16 meticulously interwoven sound episodes, each of which narrates the evocative imaginary journey of Sir Paul McCartney during a rainy night in 1967.

“Suite 1967: 'The Forgotten Road'” takes its inspiration from Johann Sebastian Bach's "Six Cello Suites, " creating a captivating fusion of classical music and the essence of British rock from that era, Masterfully crafting a unique and thrilling sonic experience for listeners.

Pablo Lavín Berríos, better known by his artistic name "Pablo Lavins," is a Chilean musician, composer, and poet. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and is a certified advanced cellist from the University of Chile. His expertise as a cellist lies in the historical interpretation of Baroque and Renaissance music.

🎼 Join us at our Embassy in London for an intimate evening with Chilean jazz musicians Ricardo Alvarez Quartet, as they present original compositions that develop the fusion between contemporary jazz and Latin American music. 🎷

The Quartet's journey began in 2011 in York, UK, where they captivated audiences with their innovative sound at venues like The Phoenix Jazz Club and the Buxton Festival. Their debut album, "Huay Not?" received critical acclaim, with the track "Red Rooster" winning a Composition Contest in Chile. After relocating to Chile in 2018, Ricardo reformed the group with local talents, continuing to mesmerize jazz lovers at major festivals like the Festival de Jazz de Valparaíso.

Recorded at Studio Azul Multimedios in Viña del Mar, "Bar Inglés" captures the essence of Valparaíso's vibrant spirit. The album, available on popular streaming platforms, was launched live at the PUCV Cineteca, offering a fresh, melodic journey through the heart of Chilean culture.

⚓️ We were delighted to join Armada de Chile in welcoming Chile’s training ship to Portsmouth, as part of their 68th instructional tour for officers and sailors in training.

⚓️This Instructional tour is particularly special as it marks the 70th anniversary of the Esmeralda. As she stands in Portsmouth, she serves as a beacon of the Chilean Navy’s legacy and tenacity.

⚓️On board for this journey, alongside the Chilean crew, are naval officers from various countries, including Argentina, Peru, Brazil, Panama, Spain, the United Kingdom, Portugal, and France. This demonstrates the friendship of our Navy with similar institutions in other nations.

As the Chilean Investigative Police (PDI) celebrates its 91st anniversary, the Embassy of Chile in the UK was delighted to mark the occasion and honor the PDI's strong commitment to the peace and security of all Chileans. Congratulations & thank you for your service! 👏👏

Synopsis

Chile in the summer of 1990. As the country comes to terms with the end of Pinochet’s dictatorship, Sofía, Lucas and Clara, a group of adolescents living in a rural commune, attempt to make sense of their own burgeoning desires and tangled relationships while preparing for New Year’s Eve.

Unfolding through a series of languid but rigorously framed scenes and accompanied by a 1980s pop soundtrack, Too Late to Die Young captures the sun-scorched hues of a lost teenage summer.

Produced by Rodrigo Teixeira (Call Me By Your Name) and featuring a standout performance from newcomer Demian Hernández as sixteen-year-old Sofia, Too Late to Die Young is a subtly observed and beautifully shot evocation of a time brimming with hope and trepidation.

⚓️ On May 22, Westminster Abbey hosted the traditional and significant ceremony to commemorate a new anniversary of Chile's Naval Glories.

⚓️ The event, led by the Chilean Ambassador to the United Kingdom, H.E. Ximena Fuentes, was attended by the Lord Mayor of Westminster Councillor Robert Rigby, members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of the Royal Navy, the International Maritime Organisation, as well as Defense and Naval Attachés accredited in the United Kingdom, along with the staff of the Naval Mission and personnel from the Embassy, Consulate, ProChile, and the Military, Air Force, Carabineros, and Investigative Police Attachés.

🌊 During the religious service, Vice Admiral Andrew Burns, Fleet Commander of the Royal Navy, who leads the operational forces of the institution, and subsequently, Ambassador Fuentes, laid floral wreaths on the tomb of Vice Admiral Lord Thomas Alexander Cochrane, paying tribute to the distinguished sailor who arrived in Chile in 1818 to contribute to the formation of the nascent naval force, achieving significant victories that consolidated Chile's independence.

🌊 The religious service, led by the Dean of Westminster Abbey, Very Reverend Dr. David Hoyle, provided a moment of reflection on the values of courage, leadership, and the legacy that Lord Cochrane has represented for over 200 years, which continues to endure in the Chilean Navy to this day. The event reaffirmed the close relationship between both navies and the mutual respect between Chile 🇨🇱 and the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 .

⚓️ Regarding the ceremony, Ambassador Ximena Fuentes stated: “For the Chilean Navy and our Government, it is an honor to pay tribute to Lord Cochrane for his invaluable contribution to the formation of our Navy and the consolidation of our independence. At Westminster Abbey, we have celebrated a beautiful ceremony, organized annually for decades by our Naval Mission in London, marking the deep friendship between our Navy and the Royal Navy, and bearing witness to the values and history that unite us.”

The presentation marks the official commencement of her duties as Ambassador of Chile to the United Kingdom, pending the formal presentation of credentials to His Majesty King Charles III.

“I am very honored to officially begin my duties as Ambassador to the United Kingdom and will put all my efforts into continuing to strengthen the historic ties between our countries. I am grateful for the warm welcome from both the Foreign Office and our embassy team,” said Ambassador Fuentes.

We're proud to present "Andean Souls", a special exhibition for one week only showcasing the work of five female artists from Chile 🇨🇱 for London Craft Week from 13th-19th May at Gill Wing Jewellery.

This group of talented women have been chosen for how they make jewellery with an awareness of their territory, using techniques and materials imbued with cultural meaning. Their pieces highlight the characteristics of the land they live in and the wisdom of their ancestors.

The artists will be travelling to London for the duration to present the exhibition and share their stories, their territory and their roots with us. The pieces are made by hand with pure silver combined with copper, picoyo (a local Chilean material), granite stone and ceramics. Techniques used include basketry, engraving and pottery.

The Andean Souls group is comprised by AkuchaJoyas, Liliana Ojeda Jewellery, Javiera Carrillos de Mestiza Joyería y Memorias.

Water, the longest border in Chile, also holds the secret of two mysterious buttons which were found on its ocean floor. Chile, with its 2,670 miles of coastline and the largest archipelago in the world, presents a supernatural landscape. In it are volcanoes, mountains and glaciers. In it are the voices of the Patagonian Indigenous people and their tragic history, the first English sailors and also those of its political prisoners. Some say that water has memory. This film gives it a voice. Using both archival images and gorgeous new footage, The Pearl Button (El botón de nácar) manages once again to convey different periods of history and geography in a gripping tale of our modern world.

Today David Rutley MP, Minister for Americas, Caribbean and Overseas Territories at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, visited the Embassy of Chile in the UK to sign the Book of Condolences for the passing of former President of Chile Sebastián Piñera. Mr. Rutley also presented his deepest sympathies for the devastating wildfires in Valparaíso and Viña del Mar.

Edmundo’s passion for archaeology started when he was 12 years old and discovered a pre-Incan tomb in northern Chile with the largest cash of gold objects ever found in Chile, yet it was after visiting Rapa Nui in 1957, that he became enthralled by Rapanui culture and returned to the island in 1960 with archaeologist William Mulloy on an Expedition of the University of Chile to restore the Ahu Akivi altar.

At present he has been carrying out studies in Archeoastronomy on Easter Island and Polynesia and is President of the Rapanui Planetarium Foundation which owns a Planetarium and an Observatory upon the island.

The Anglo Chilean Society has provided funding for the Planetarium and is delighted that Edmundo is able to join us via satellite link up even though it will be after midnight on Easter Island!

🩰 👯🇨🇱 We were thrilled to welcome the Director of Chile's Municipal de Santiago Santiago, Carmen Gloria Larenas, and the team of dancers from Ballet de Santiago who were in London to participate at an event at the Royal Opera House.

We had an engaging and interesting conversation moderated by choreographer AVA DANCE COMPANY Avatara Ayuso, who worked with the Ballet de Santiago last year when she developed her full-length ballet "Nijinska, Secreto de la Vanguardia" (Nijinska, Secret of the Avant-Garde), commissioned by Teatro Municipal de Santiago.

This event was possible thanks to the contribution of the Anglo Chilean Society.

Spirited Flutes brings together Carmen Troncoso (Chile) and Jennifer Cohen (Scotland), members of the music staff at the University of York. Both performers are experts in baroque music and also seek to explore possible sound and material combinations by collaborating with contemporary composers in the creation of new repertoire for recorder and flute.

This concert combines different recorders and the flute. Wood and metal instruments playing works by Chilean composers and recalling baroque sonatas. Flutes turning into birds and mysterious autumn leaves uttering spirited sounds. A brief tour portraying historical periods and musical styles. A unique sound world. Come to experience it!
