🍇✨ Ever heard of carbonic maceration? This unique winemaking technique involves fermenting whole grapes in a carbon dioxide-rich environment, creating wines that are vibrant, fruity, and irresistibly drinkable. 🍷🌿

Our cleverly titled ‘Carbonic Maceration’ Bodegas Santalba Rioja red is a 100% Tempranillo and uses an ancestral method from many many years ago that ensures the grapes are fermented on the pulp and turned by hand resulting in a fruit bomb of a red - best served at 14 degrees during the warmer summer months.

🍇 Ever wondered about the roots of natural wine in Spain? The buzz word ‘Natural wine’ became a talking point back in 2020 – but what does it mean ?

The buzz word ‘Natural wine’ became a talking point back in 2020 – but what does it mean ?

It generally means that the grapes are grown without chemicals or pesticides, are dry-farmed and handpicked, use native yeast, have no additives or fining agents, and use little to no filtering or sulphites. These wines are also classified as “low intervention”. Nothing is added, and nothing is taken away. In a sense, while it’s trendy now, it’s actually the most traditional way to make fermented grape juice.

🇪🇸 This ancient tradition dates back to Roman times, with winemakers using organic methods passed down through generations. Today, Spanish natural wines are crafted with minimal intervention, showcasing the purest expression of the grape and terroir.
