It's finally here... After many months... Tomorrow is the joint TFIT and AWLC social. The grill is ready, the prosecco is on ice and we have buckets of beers (and of course alcohol-free options).
We can't wait to let our hair down with you all, get some tunes banging and just hang out.
All the food and drink is on us, it's our way of saying a big thank you to everyone who has continued to support us over the most bizarre last year and a half.

Exactly 2 years apart! 1️⃣0️⃣0️⃣kg ➡️ 2️⃣0️⃣0️⃣kg
How many kids do you know that have stuck to a sport for over 2 years…. not many and these guys are nearly at 3 years
Here we have Rory (14), Alex (13) and Aiden (14) deadlifting 100kg. Fast forward 2 years and they can all deadlift over 100kg each and the 3 of them here did 200kg
There isn’t much I wouldn’t do for these lads. They give me 100%, love weightlifting, love lifting heavy and they all lift with amazing technique
Look how much they grown. Being 13-14 and in the sport for so long Weightlifting has been a big part of there lives and I hope it will be for many more years to come

Brilliant Sn**ch by Aiden and he had 3 good attempts at 50kg. Won’t be long before he hits that
Wasn’t just Aiden that got a PB
Rory 14 yrs hit 54kg and Alex who is 13 years old hit a massive 50kg
These boys train hard and it’s paying off

YOUTH WEIGHTLIFTING:
New block of training means volume for the youth
OTM Sn**ch, Power Cleans and Backsquat

When we are in a high volume phase whether with the youth or senior lifters I tend to lean forwards high sets and low reps
8x5 is essentially 4x10 if you were to think Hypertrophy (muscle growth)
As weightlifters we want to build muscle but at the same time train speed
The benefits of using 8x5 over 4x10 is that the intensity can be higher, speed over the 5 reps is maintained and rest periods can be shorter due to it potentially being less fatiguing that 10 reps so you get a similar ‘pump on’ to high reps

Not a PB however she failed this about 3 weeks ago and this 100 looked a lot better than the 100 she did a few years ago. Kristy has made some crazy progress after a couple years away from strength training (it was easy and if I was looking when she did then 101kg would have been on the bar for a proper PB 😉)

Pretty much half way through the club squat cycle where we will testing the 5RM soon

What are the benefits of weightlifting and strength training for children?
Let start with that its safe. Here at AWLC we’ve have been training 10-17 yrs old for 3 years with no problems at all
Like all the youths at AWLC everyone starts on a stick and only proceeds to a barbell once they have shown they can do the movements well
Benefits include:
- Improved body composition
- Build muscle, improve strength, power and endurance
- Improved motor skills
- Improved flexibility
- Improved fitness
- Improved bone health
- Reduced rate of sporting injury
- Increase in self-esteem, discipline and sporting mindset
- Individual sport lending itself to those kids who might not perform well in team sports/events

Technique is always a priority!
Weightlifting DOES NOT stunt your child’s growth nor will be directly effect growth plates
Sports such as Rugby, Football, Gymnastics to name a few have higher injury rates than Weightlifting
Just look at Rory. Minus lockdowns he been training consistently for over 2 years. He’s very strong for his age, he’s athletic and most importantly absolutely loves the sport
He trains 3-4 times a week for 75mins

Dominic will be the first person to take up a membership. He wants to learn weightlifting and the mid morning sessions are perfect for him. He will be looking to train 2/3 times a week.
For his first session last week he’s already picked it up very well. Hang Sn**ch double at 25kg

The ‘Return to Weightlifting Programme’ begins the 12th April
Positional work, strength and a gradual build up for our athletes on this programme. There will be a lot of lifting by feel due to the time away from lifting however there is no rush or pressure by me to get back to “old numbers”
We still have a couple of memberships available if you are serious about your weightlifting

Programming:
With gyms reopening we offer the Club programme for those who train weightlifting but need some sort of structure or are not sure how to programme for themselves. Feel part of a team with the weeks programme supplied a week in advance.
Need something more specific then personalised programmes can be done
Remote Coaching:
Two levels of remote coaching. Standard and Advanced. If you don’t have a coach and no access to a club then we offer remote coaching for programmes and technique analysis
1-2-1 Coaching/ Personal Training:
Want to improve your technique or overall strength then 1-2-1 sessions could be what you need. Better able to spend time on specific weaknesses or issues. Single sessions or packs available
