🔴⚫️ Rutherford U10’s Match Report 🔴⚫️

The girls faced Darlington in a friendly on Saturday.

They only had the bare 7 today due to last minute illnesses. They started strong and dominated the play for the first 10 minutes finding themselves unlucky not to take the lead, instead striker Poppy and Freya managed to hit the cross bar and post. We somehow found ourselves vulnerable to ‘the fox in the box’ in which on a couple of occasions Darlingtons striker was way past our defence just waiting for a ball through. Although it took the girls a while to click on to this Megan and Olivia defended excellently, stopping them balls through to the striker, on one occasion it got though and surely enough she scored, going into half time 1-0 down was hard to take considering how well the girls had played their first half, never the less a positive team talk and out the girls went with fire in their belly’s and boy did it show.

It didn’t take long for the girls to start creating chances, Jen, Sherina, Poppy and Freya linked up really well. Defensively we were solid, Megan man marked their ‘fox in the box’ and defending partner Sophie stopped everything going towards goal. The girls won a throw in, Sophie (with her super sonic throws) took the throw getting it into the box and surely enough Poppy finished it equalising the game. The girls continued to pressure with some impressive passing and good balls from the midfield to the strikers. Taking nothing away from Darlington they were a strong team and tried pushing forward, however much to their frustrations Sophie cleared anything that came into her path and anything that didn’t, Megan was there for.

Our second goal from a good ball through to Poppy for took a few touches before poking it home to take the lead. Soon after the girls found their third goal this time from Jen, Jen has battled and battled over the last few weeks and hard work has paid off as she got her well deserved goal. A change in positions saw Poppy go in goal for the final 15 minutes, that didn’t stop the girls though as they continued to counter.

Darlington got through a few times and we found ourselves defending corners, the girls dealt with this well. Another corner came in and a Darlington player volleyed it smashing the back of the net, Jordan Pickford wouldn’t have saved that one. The girls carried on and their 4th goal came from Freya who, I quote, at half time said ‘I can’t score today’ in which she was told theres no such word as can’t and once again the coaches proved right as she added yet another goal to her impressive tally for the season.

The game finished 4-2 to Rutherford and player of the match was awarded to both Sophie and Megan for their solid performances today. This was by no stretch of the imagination an easy game, however the way Megan and Sophie defended was unbelievable to see, seeing them cut out most of the attacking play from the opposition. Thanks to all the girls involved they carried on, even when they needed a break due to having no subs. Well done girls 🔴⚫️⚽️

⚫️🔴⚫️🔴Under 10 Match Report⚫️🔴⚫️🔴

The girls faced Chester United today. We started really well putting pressure on their defense and causing them issues with our pace.

Freya put us ahead with a strong run and excellent finish which gave the keeper no chance. ⚽️

Chester came back strong and Megan, Eliza and Sienna worked well together to limit their chances with some great tackles and clearances.

A couple of excellent saves from Skye kept the score down as we looked to counter attack with Sherina, Maddison and Freya working really well together in midfield. 🥅

Maddison and Freya were both unlucky not to get goals as the Chester keeper made some good saves. 🥅

We worked especially hard in the 2nd half and took a few knocks in the process. It was a very determined and hardworking display from all 7 girls with no subs available to give them a rest.

It ended 5-1 to Chester but that doesn't reflect the effort we put in.

POTM went to Freya for her tireless box to box display and well taken goal. 🏆

A 2-2 draw for the girls yesterday. A very physical game against a good Darlington side. The girls opened up the scoring with a fantastic strike into the top corner from Freya. ⚽️
Some fantastic saves from Ava kept Darlington out.

However, Darlington equalised not long after. The girls worked hard to attack and won a corner just before half time. Freya took a brilliant corner which found Casey who put in straight into the back of the net. We went into the break 2-1 up. ⚽️

Darlington came out strong 2nd half and made the girls work really hard defensively. Unfortunately a mix up from a goal kick allowed Darlington to score their 2nd goal which resulted in the game ending a draw.

A great game to watch with lots of positives to take away.

🔴⚫️🔴Under 10’s Match Report ⚫️🔴⚫️

The girls faced Darlington today. We got off to a great start, Poppy and Freya putting the Darlington defense under pressure with their speed. 🏃‍♀️

Freya came very close with a shot hitting the post. Poppy making some great runs forward .

Loads of chances for our striking duo were kept at bay by the brilliant darlo keeper 🥅

Both teams battled hard in the middle of the pitch. Jennifer using her skills to skip past the opposition. Sherina was marking and putting in some vital tackles to win the ball back. Sienna working hard forcing the Darlington side to make mistakes. Skye had a change of position today and played out field, great to see her getting in some tackles and covering some ground. 🙌🏻

Our defense was looking strong with Megan's great clearances and Eliza sweeping everything up that came her way.

Maddison had a great game in goal. Brilliant goal kicks to her team mates and well done keeping a clean sheet. 🥅

The teams work rate was phenomenal today. Very proud of the U10s. Great game of football and everyone had a smile on their face.

Final score was 0-0.

Elizas speed and positional sense was exceptional today. Very well deserved player of the match. 🏆

Our under 12 girls played NAYFC angels today, we played the game with no subs so the 9 girls worked hard to played a full match with great determination.

A tough first half seen the girls go behind 2-1 at the break with a great goal from Freya ⚽️ 3 minutes into the 2nd half, NAYFC scored thier third goal of the game.

The girls then began to settle and play some great attacking football. They worked hard to level the game to 3-3 with another 2 fantastic goals from Freya⚽️ assisted by Anya and Amaia.

The final 5 minutes the girls pushed for the winner which came in the final minute after a clever short corner from Casey to Freya who crossed the ball in and Eleanor found the back of the net ⚽️.

Another fantastic game where the girls came together as a team and worked hard for each other. Each game the girls volunteer to play in goal so a massive well done to Freya, Anya, Casey and Indie who took it in turns to play in goal today.

Today the girls faced Washington AFC Wildcats who we recently played a couple of weeks back. The girls started really strong with some excellent passing and moving working extremely hard as a team.

The girls were 1-0 down at the break. We came out 2nd half just as determined and again some excellent football was played with Amaia, Freya and Casey creating some fantastic counter attacks.

We were unfortunate to end the game 4-1 which the girls did not deserve.

Big well done Casey on her goal⚽️ and Olivia on receiving POTM🏆. Well done to Abbie S and Freya on stepping up to play in a goal 🥅.

A fantastic performance from all of the girls today, constantly improving each week 🙌 ⚽️

🔴⚫️🔴⚫️U10’s Match Report🔴⚫️🔴⚫️

The girls met Whickham Fellside today for what was an end to end game with both teams playing to their strengths and lots of effort and determination.

An early goal from Poppy Walker saw the Rutherford girls a goal up in the first 2 minutes. ⚽️

Whickham Fellside tried to equalise but fell short with a save from goalkeeper Skye. 🥅

The girls settled into the game creating chances and using good footwork to push the ball towards Whickham Fellside’s goal.

Some great passing between Jennifer and Freya as they pushed on, but Freya was denied a goal with a good save from the keeper 🥅

With Meghan in support, Poppy continued to attack and create chances for Rutherford but the Whickham Fellside keeper bat off each shot.

Maddie and Sherina came on in midfield and worked together assisting Poppy in her quest for another goal.

In the second half, Jennifer played in goal for Rutherford and was tremendous in keeping the clean sheet for Rutherford. Along with Sienna and Eliza, they were able to deny Whickham Fellside the chance to level the score.

Poppy was denied another shot before seizing her chance and sending the ball into the back of Whickham Fellside’s net ⚽️

This was quickly followed by another goal from Poppy making Rutherford 3-0 up ⚽️

Eliza and Meghan worked together, with excellent footwork to push the ball further towards Whickam Fellside’s half making it difficult for them to create any chances for goal.

The girls deserved their win, and were a joy to watch, talking and encouraging each other throughout the game.

Player of the match was awarded to Jennifer for an outstanding performance in goal. 🏆

Well done girls, top effort!

Today the girls played Easington in only their 3rd ever league game.

Though the girls started brightly, their work was undone when a long ball over the top created the chance they needed to get the all important 1st goal. The girls pushed to get an equaliser with chances from Freya, amaia and casey but again the long ball over the top proved to be an effective tactic, making it 2 then 3-0 Easington. The pressure started to mountains despite somme good saves and tackles, the opposition strikers pounced on some loose balls out of defence. The half finished 5-0 Easington.

The second half started with a lot more pressure from the Rutherford Girls but again Easington scored 1st, scoring from a corner. Finally however the girls got what they rightly deserved when Freya and ava played a 1-2 from a corner and Freya fired home. ⚽️ Unfortunately the Easington strikers again were able to nip in before our defence and scored 2 more.

I was very proud of the girls who never gave up against opposition who had a lot more experience. Player of the match was awarded to casey who battled and battled in the midfield and made some good saves in goal in the 2nd half. 🏆

We'll get them next time 😜⚽

U10 Match Report

Rutherford U10 girls this week faced Hebburn Involve embers the girls started the match well but we’re unfortunate to go 1-0 behind when the ball was played in past the defence and the Hebburn player managed to just poke it past the goalkeeper. 1-0

The Hebburn team had started the game very quick and tried to apply pressure from the beginning but solid defending from Megan Butler and Eliza Potts managed to keep them at bay. However on 12 minutes they found the net again when a well worked ball was sent into the path of their forward and again as Skye cairns came out to close the ball down she was unlucky and it was sneaked past her doubling the Hebburn lead. 2-0

Some hard work and fantastic running from Poppy Walker, saw Rutherford with a chance of their own at the other end only to see it trickle wide of the post before Poppy Walker linked up well with Freya Curry who then forced a good save from the Hebburn goalkeeper.

Good football and strong defending by Maddison Hargreaves and Eliza Potts kept the Hebburn attack out and great running from Sienna Kelly kept constant pressure on the ball and any Hebburn possession.

The girls pushed hard and give their all in the final few minutes of the first half and thought they had done enough to pull one back as Jennifer Richardson took possession of the ball; on halfway she turned inside and attacked the Hebburn defence before playing a great ball into the path of Poppy Walker, her first time strike rattled the post and bounced out before the goalkeeper made a save from Freya Curry.

The teams went into the break with Hebburn leading 2-0 and it wasn’t long from the restart when the Hebburn girls struck lucky again the ball rolling through and again Skye Cairns was brave to come off her line to try and clear but hebburn just managed to put a toe on the end and poke it into the net 3-0

Shortly after this a good move from the Hebburn girls allowed them to counter attack from a clearance and their forward calmly slotted home the fourth goal 4-0.

Rutherford’s girls kept going and were reminded that the scoreline didn’t matter and wasn’t important, but that trying, learning and having fun was and they did just that as they started to find each other with passes, and moved up the pitch attacking the hebburn goal before a great finish by Poppy Walker pulled 1 back for Rutherford 4-1. ⚽️

Soon after this a great turn inside from Jennifer Richardson found Megan Butler, who in turn passed the ball to Sienna Kelly who managed to squeeze it to Freya Curry as she made an advancing run, before squaring the ball inside to Poppy Walker and again Poppy managed to slot the ball in past the keeper 4-2 ⚽️

The girls had a great lift now and excellent attitude and kept battling against a well organised Hebburn side; chances came again but unfortunately the post, the crossbar and the goalkeeper all kept out shots from the Rutherford girls. Just before full time Hebburn attacked again, and solid defending and great goalkeeping this time from Jennifer Richardson kept their shot out before a bit of a scramble inside the box happened and unfortunately Jennifer found herself outnumbered by 3 Hebburn players, who managed to squeeze the ball out of the crowd despite 3 great saves and blocks by Jennifer the Hebburn player managed to finish a tap in to the corner making it 5-2.

The match finished 5-2 and was excellent to watch. Well done to both teams and to the Rutherford girls, absolutely fantastic attitude, work rate and determination today this bodes well for their future and the season ahead.

Well done to Poppy on her 2 goals and a fantastic performance once again.

Player of the match was awarded to Megan Butler for her work rate and solid defending and playing out when she could it was very good to watch and saved us from possibly conceding on a few occasions. 🏆

Well done to everyone keep learning and keep developing.

Thank you again to the parents and supporters for your time today.

U12 Match Report

Rutherford U12 Girls today took on a strong Washington AFC wildcats. The girls started off well but it wasn’t long before the Washington team showed some of their experience taking a hold on the game. ⚽️

The Rutherford girls battled hard and created chances of their own but just couldn’t manage to convert them to goals on the day.⚽️

The girls continued to battle hard to make things happen and find a way back into the match, but it seemed that the experience of the Washington team playing together was the difference between both teams.

It was a hard task for the Rutherford girls as this is still very early in their first ever season and with most of the team playing a year up their is always going to be a challenge but one that the girls are ready for and happy to accept. The girls are well aware that this is a year to learn and develop then look ahead but winning is a bonus; however we look at this match today as a learning opportunity and we know the girls will work hard on Tuesday to develop themselves further and then go again next week.

Special mention today for Courtney & Abbie who played as goalkeeper and done really well, also to Freya for her goals and to Amaia on the player of the match award.🏆

Tonight the junior girls said goodbye to one of their coaches as she gets ready to embark on uni life.

Ellie Waters joined Rutherford Ladies last season and settled in really well playing on the wings and causing headaches for the opposing defenders. She became a well liked, and committed team member and even became a hit with the pizza guy at one of the club events lol.

Ellie was keen to be involved in the development of the junior girls and volunteered her time to take weekly sessions working with the girls to help develop them. She brought an organised fun and interactive coaching style to the girls and everyone played with a smile on their face.

Ellie is very well thought off and well liked by all the girls, the parents and coaching colleagues at the club and will be missed by all as she takes the next step in her future.

We wish Ellie all the very best for University life and hope to see her back again in the future

🔴⚫️🔴⚫️U10 Match Report🔴⚫️🔴⚫️

Rutherford U10’s travelled to the Russell foster centre at Newbottle today to open their competitive league season with a match against Chester United Girls.

Following on from a great start by the U12 this morning, the U10 did not disappoint and started off really well with Jennifer Richardson coming close to opening the scoring forcing an early save by the goalkeeper.

There was no let up for Chester as Freya Curry and Poppy Walker both pressed hard and saw an effort flash just wide, before Poppy Walker was persistent in chasing the ball down and managed to disposes her opponent, before slotting the ball into the corner to open the scoring 1-0. ⚽️

The girls played really well from the beginning and Megan Butler latched onto the ball, before lifting her head up to find Poppy Walker ahead of her and sliding the ball through for Poppy Walker to double the lead 2-0 ⚽️

Chester tried to work together to find a way through, but some resilient defending by Jennifer Richardson and Eliza Potts kept the Rutherford goal from any danger. Maddison Hargreaves ran through the midfield and found Poppy Walker before receiving the ball back and turning away from her marker then playing in Poppy Walker again who used her pace to get ahead of her marker and scored her 3rd goal giving the Rutherford girls a 3-0 lead on 16 minutes. ⚽️

Chester tried hard to get into the game but persistent defending and quick closing down by Freya Curry, Maddison Hargreaves and Jennifer Richardson didn’t allow Chester any time on the ball, and as Freya Curry went through on goal she was unlucky to hit the post then put the rebound just wide.

Good battling in the middle then by Sienna Kelly saw her, and Poppy Walker outnumber the Chester player and win the ball back before Freya Curry was put through again and forced a good save from the goalkeeper.

Just before half time another great piece of football saw Megan Butler link with Jennifer Richardson and the move was calmly finished off again by Poppy Walker giving the Rutherford girls a 4-0 lead at Half time. ⚽️

As the second half started, some great work by Eliza Potts and Jennifer Richardson again denied Chester any attempt at goal. Skye cairns who had been playing in goal for Rutherford in the first half, then linked up well with a 1-2 pass to Poppy Walker before sending the ball to Freya Curry who came close again just putting her shot wide of the post.

A great last ditched tackle from Maddison Hargreaves then saw her stop Chester from going through on their closest attempt of the game. Sienna Kelly and Skye Cairns worked hard in the midfield and were supported by Poppy Walker who was causing all sorts of problems for the Chester team another great pass into Freya Curry saw her have another shot on target but was saved by the goalkeeper.

Chester then found a gap in the Rutherford defence and an excellent save by Megan Butler managed to keep them from scoring.
The Chester girls seemed to then start to tire towards the end of the match and the energetic Poppy Walker capitalised on this as she hounded them for the ball before winning possession and scoring her 5th goal of the game. 5-0 ⚽️

In the final few minutes of the match it was Poppy Walker again who sneaked in and pinched the ball from the Chester defence before scoring and sealing a good 6-0 win for the Rutherford U10 girls in their first ever competitive match. ⚽️

Today’s player of the match was jointly awarded to Jennifer Richardson for her great workrate and footwork creating opportunities for the team and to Poppy Walker for non stop running and clinical goal scoring netting all 6 goals today. 🏆

Well done to all the girls and we wish Chester United girls all the best for their season. Massive thank you to all the parents and support for their attendance today and we hope that everyone enjoyed the experience and look forward to a great season of learning and development for the girls.

🔴⚫️🔴⚫️U12’s Match Report🔴⚫️🔴⚫️

Rutherford U12 girls made their own piece of club history today as they were the first junior girls team to ever play in a competitive league match.

They travelled to Nissan sports centre to play against Washington United in what was a closely contested match. Washington United took the lead on 10 mins with a well worked goal 1-0 ⚽️

It wasn’t long before the Rutherford girls responded 3 mins later with some route one football. Great vision from Ava Rickerby in the goal sent a long ball down field to Freya Bolam, who managed to outpace her marker with an excellent first touch and finish with the second into the corner of the goal 1-1 ⚽️

Some great defending by Ella Thomas, Abbi Scurr & Abbie Jobes kept the Washington attack at bay; and some great footwork and an excellent work rate from Amaia Hetherington caused lots of problems for the Washington midfield.

A great piece of football saw Grace Hunt link well with Freya Bolam before sending Amaia in on goal only to be denied by a last ditch tackle. Hard work from Olivia Curry out wide on the pitch saw her win possession for the Rutherford girls before finding Amaia ahead of her and her squared pass fell to Freya who forced the save from the Washington goalkeeper.

Amy worked hard in the middle to battle against the Washington girls and was able to link well with Ella, who then sent the ball forward again for the Rutherford girls only to be denied by a covering defender who slipped the ball long to their forward as she rushed on towards the Rutherford goal an excellent save from Ava Rickerby right on half time kept the scores level 1-1 halftime.

The second half started well for the Rutherford girls as Ava Rickerby closed down a Washington goalkick and took her shot only to see it blocked but a calm finish from Freya Bolam put the girls 2-1 ahead. ⚽️

Again solid defending from Abbie Jobes, Grace Hunt and Ella Thomas forced Washington away from the Rutherford goal a great pass from Olivia Curry into Amaia Hetherington then saw her set up Ava Rickerby who forced another save by the Washington goalkeeper.

The game was end to end and both teams played some great football and looked to be enjoying themselves. Washington then attacked again and only an excellent outstretched save from abbi Scurr denied them another goal shortly after this it was another save from Washington goalkeeper who kept out Amaias effort before Washington managed to get the equaliser scoring after some good football 2-2⚽️

Rutherford girls continued to work hard and as Amaia broke through the defence, she laid the ball back to Freya who was clinical in her finish; putting the ball over the keeper and into the top corner. 3-2 ⚽️

Rutherford pushed hard for more goals as Olivia and Grace both came close only to see their efforts saved before the ball was played out into the path of Freya Bolam and once again she showed great composure and accuracy curling her shot past the keeper making it 4-2. ⚽️

Today was a great day for the girls and the club’s junior girls section. Some excellent football and clinical finishing saw them begin their first season with a win players of the match today was shared by Amaia Hetherington for her non stop workrate, effort and determination & Freya Bolam for her great work rate and excellent finishing which saw her score all 4 Rutherford goals. 🏆

Thank you to all the parents and supporters for their attendance today.

We wish Washington United Girls all the best for the rest of the season ahead.
