All too often clients come to me saying the same thing,

'I've tried it all and nothing works!' ๐Ÿ˜ฉ

Usually 'trying it all' consists of short stints of intense exercise

Coupled with eating far too few calories

And 0 to no carbs! ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

When it's in black and white,

It's clearer to see why this isn't working out!

When you limit yourself too heavily

You enter a yo-yo cycle of restricting and bingeing

But amidst all of this, it's important to remember that there are certain things you're not responsible for during your fitness journey ๐Ÿคฏ

Here's what you're NOT responsible for:

โŒ Your body's appearance.

Your genes, age, and other factors beyond your control play a big role in how your body looks and works.

โŒ Other people's opinions.

Some folks will always have something negative to say, whether it's about your body or your workout routine.

โŒ Perfection.

Your fitness journey is a process, and there will be ups and downs along the way. Celebrate small wins and enjoy the ride.

Social media and society can make it easy to compare yourself to others, but remember that everyone's journey is unique.

โœ… Instead of striving for a specific look, focus on what your body can do and how it feels

โœ… Remember that others' opinions say more about them than you

As a result, you may feel less motivated, less energetic, and less willing to keep your resolutions and goals on track. โ€จโ€จIt is estimated that 90% of people who start their fitness journey alone in January will give up by February - this proves how helpful it is to have a supportive community around you. โ€จโ€จStay connected to your community and support those who need it! ๐Ÿฅฐ

Why this is the best time of year to eat more - backed by science!ย 

Body:ย Food is directly related to how we:ย 

1. Physically Function - it is fuel after allย โ€จ
2. Think - because it gives out brain energyโ€จ
3. Feel - both positively and negativelyโ€จ
The temptation to indulge is ever more present as it is a festive season and the food is down right amazing ๐Ÿคค

However, it is also the best time to be eating more, because it is COLD!ย 

(Not just because of that undeniable deep happiness of consuming something warm in the cold weather when it hits all the right spots)

The cold is very important. As it is colder our metabolism naturally increases but there is so much more going on too!ย 

Firstly ย - when it is cold, our bodies do a process called thermoregulation. Simply, your body keeps itself warm.ย 

One way this is done is by shivering which is energy demanding (therefore metabolism increases!) ๐Ÿคฏ

The second way is not through shivering but by gaining fat!ย 

HOLD ON! โœ‹

This is good fat, really really good fat. This fat is brown fat and NOT the fat we associate with weight gain!ย 

Brown fat helps use body fat as energy to keep us warm!ย 

Now, that doesnโ€™t mean you should strip off and shiver all day, youโ€™ll naturally be doing this as the temperature is low.ย 

Again, this raises your metabolism! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Lastly, eating protein increases your metabolism and raises body temperature more than any other macronutrientโ€ฆ meat sweats is real!ย 

So donโ€™t worry if youโ€™re eating more over the festive season, your body needs it! ๐Ÿ˜Ž
