Lakenham Union Men’s League Fixtures 2024/25

We might be in the middle of summer, but here’s the full list of league games for the 24/25 season which kicks of in September for both the 1s and 2s.

There will be some additional pre-season games in the lead up to the season, so watch out for those shortly.

In the meantime, get these dates in the diary.

LURFC Pre-season training starts a week today on Tue 2nd July.

The training is open to all players, from seasoned veterans to those new to the game.

Make sure you are at Hilltops, changed and ready for 7pm.

Our head coach Jay O’Brien and his coaching team have some great sessions planned, so why not get along and blow those cobwebs away and get ready for the 24/25 season.

Great numbers at tonight’s mixed touch session, despite the rain and wind.

Lakenham Union RFC are looking to take on an assistant coach to join the existing coaching team.

The role is a volunteer role, but you will receive funded RFU training and mentoring from the existing team.

The role will involve working with both the Men’s and Women’s sections at training sessions and also on game days.

Lakenham Union 1st XV end the season with a rare loss as they go down 19-7 to a youthful Beccles team.

Despite the first half being scoreless it was a thriller with both teams in an arm wrestle to get the upper hand.

Beccles were the first to score in the second half with LU replying almost immediately, but a further two tries by the home side put the game out of reach of LU who despite a spirited final quarter were unable to break through a solid Beccles defence.

The game kicks off at 3pm, so why not get along to Beef Meadow and cheer the boys on for one last time this season.

Saturday might be the final 15s game of the season, but Lakenham Union Men will be playing 7s and Touch over the break, here’s what we have scheduled so far...

This week sees Lakenham Union Men play their final 15s game of the season, travelling to Beccles to play in the second pool game of the Norfolk Intermediate Cup.

Kick off is at 3pm, so why not get yourselves down to Common Lane and watch the boys for one final time this season (at 15 a side).

NB Details of 7s and Touch games taking place in May and July will be released shortly.

Lakenham Union go down 31-12 to Fakenham in the first pool game of the Norfolk RFU Intermediate Cup.

LU started well and dominated in the forwards, but we’re unable to cope with Fakenham’s fast and accurate wide game which was ultimately their undoing.

Even with the league season over, there’s still plenty of Rugby left this season as the Norfolk Cup competitions begin this weekend.

First up Lakenham Union 1st XV travel to Fakenham in round 1 of the Norfolk Intermediate Cup.

Kick off is 2.30pm, so make sure you get there in plenty of time to cheer the boys on.

TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT!

Tonight is the first of our beginner-friendly women's rugby sessions! If you've ever been curious and wanted to give women's rugby a try, why not come along to the first of our beginner friendly sessions?

It's completely free, and all you need are some trainers and clothes you don't mind getting a bit muddy. Sessions will be suitable for all ages (18+) and abilities.

With Diss 2s unable to travel there is no Lakenham Union 1st XV game at Hilltops this week, but here’s the squad for tomorrow’s Lakenham Union 2s game is against Norwich Old Boys XV and will be played at Norwich RFC’s Beeston Hyrne ground.

Please note that KO is at 11am!

So get along there early, so you can cheer the boys on.

Lakenham Union Ladies Rugby Club

Here’s the Lakenham Union Men’s fixtures for the weekend, first up are the are the 2s who are playing a friendly against Norwich Old Boys away with an early KO of 11am.

Then the 1s entertain Diss 2s at home in their final league game of the season this game kicks off at 3pm.

Why not get along to either or both games and cheer the boys on.

Just a reminder that it’s the President’s Day this coming Saturday.

The bar will be open from 11.30am, however in place of the Women’s league game against Woodbridge, who were unable to get a team, there will be a Women’s Interclub game at 12.30pm and a Men’s interclub game at 2.00pm

In between there will be an Easter Egg hunt for the children in attendance, organised by our very own Easter Bunny Richard Ross.

For the beer lovers, the beer is racked and settling ready to be tapped on the day, so make sure you bring your drinking arms with you!

Lakenham Union 1st XV record a solid bonus point win away at Norwich 2s

Beating their hosts 15-67

LU try scorers were Day 1T, Hunt 1T, Silcocks 1T, Hudson 1T, Thurston 1T, Sinclair 1T, Read 1T, Spenceley 1T , Riddell 1T

The 2nd XV faired less well going down 15-38 to a strong Southwold 2s team.

The 1st XV prior to their warm up against Norwich 2 today.

Both our 1st and 2nd XV's are wearing Rugby Against Cancer socks today in support of one of our player's Dad who has recently been taken ill and is in hospital, but will be watching for updates of the game on our page.

We all wish him the best and a swift recovery and is soon back on the sideline cheering the team on and providing invaluable feedback on his son's performance, which we know he appreciates!
