Stainton CofE Primary School
A welcoming village school in the Eden Valley on the edge of the Lake District.
Congratulations to this week’s super stars!
We have celebrated marvellous mathematicians, super scientists and wonderful writers - well done all!
Happy Friday everyone!
Our first super stars of the year have all been celebrated for their positive, mature and enthusiastic attitudes to their new classes - well done all!
Stainton After School Club is delighted to welcome back all of the children.
We have a very successful After School Club which runs everyday 3.15 - 5.30pm. There are a selection of activities ranging from outdoor play, craft corner and a new Lego/construction area.
Welcome to our After School Club Heroes: Mrs Lucas ( After School Club Lead) and Mrs DuVal, Miss Field and Mrs Brewer ( After school Assistants).
What a super start to the school year. The children have had a lovely day, getting to know their new teachers, working hard, chatting and playing with friends.
Some Year 6s and Year 4s went to the Patterdale Cross-Country running event this morning.
They represented the school brilliantly, trying their best in their races.
Individual medals were won for a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place and we came 2nd overall as a school - well done team!
Another day of confidence building and water skills on Derwent Water.
Year 5 sharing smiles and memories on Derwent Water.
More climbing! 😃
Exploring the adventure play area 😊
Nursery, Reception and Year 1 braved the rain to explore Rookery Woods Adventure Play Area and Climbing Wall. We were very impressed with their enthusiasm and resilience despite being rather soggy! 🌧️ ☔️ Everyone enjoyed the bouldering and pushed themselves to go higher every time. More photos to follow 😊
Key Stage 2 had a day of investigating and discovery at Glasgow Science Centre.
The sun shone on our first ever Booknic and it was wonderful to see all the children enjoying books and engaging in stories. They were all so excited to take a new book home from our book swap and enjoyed reading them outside whilst enjoying some yummy cakes and biscuits.🧁
A big thank you to Chloe Wilson, a local author from Ambleside, who read her book ‘The Mermaid of Loughtigg Tarn’. The children really enjoyed it and asked some insightful questions in her question and answer session.
Also a big thank you to the local library service for sharing information about their summer reading challenge and for leading some fun activities.
Finally thank you to our PTA and to everyone who donated books or cakes. It was a really relaxing way to end a busy week 🌞😊
🌟Well done to our Stainton Stars!🌟
This week, that includes the whole of the Year 1/2 class for being brilliant for our student teacher, Mrs Gasgarth, during the past 10 weeks of her final teaching placement.
Today was Mrs Gasgarth’s final day at Stainton school. She has been brilliant, becoming part of the Stainton school team and we wish her all the best for the future!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Yr1/2 had such a great trip around the lakes and visiting the World of Beatrix Potter today! It even stayed dry for us so that we could enjoy our lunch by lake Windermere! 🚌 ☀️ 🥪 🏞️
Don’t forget to bring any good quality children’s books to swap into school ready for our book swap this Friday as part of our Booknic. A big thank you to everyone who has already donated 😊 📚 📖
There were certificates galore this morning!
The school celebrated our weekly Stainton stars as well as some sporting stars: children from the KS1 multi-skills event last week and KS2 cricketers from earlier in the month.
Well done to you all!
The Year 1’s had a fantastic time yesterday afternoon at the Multi-Sports Festival. They got to try some new sports such as curling and hockey and to work on their core skills in athletics and through various games. Everyone showed great enthusiasm, determination and resilience! 😊 They were a wonderful representation of Stainton School 👏
Year 6 have had a lovely morning at Carlisle Cathedral for the Carlisle Diocese Leavers’ Service.
Well done to this week’s Stainton Stars! 🌟
We had a brilliant worship with Rachel Smith who is a volunteer from the Penrith and District Red Squirrel Group.
The children were enthralled by this fun, informative but thought provoking presentation. We learnt how the red squirrels have declined over time and the reasons behind this. We also learnt what we can do to help our precious red squirrels 🐿️.
School are now the proud owners of two new red squirrel boxes and we are excited to support our native squirrel.
We can all help by reporting any sightings of both red and grey squirrels. 🐿️
Year 5 and 6 enjoyed listening to local author and teacher, Rosalind Dando about her new book, A Gift of Words.
They asked some super questions about all things related to reading, books and creative writing.
There is still chance to buy a personalised, signed copy of her book via school - please see this afternoon’s email to Year 5 and 6 parents for more details. If your child is not in Year 5 or 6, and you are still interested in buying a copy of the book, please contact school.
Year 6 have had a great final day in Yorkshire.
We left York YHA this morning and headed north to Eden Camp WW2 museum. What a fantastic place, full of interactive and immersive exhibits that have helped our learning of the Second World War this term.
We’re now on our way back to Stainton - tired but happy!
Another fun filled day in historic York for Year 6! We started the day back on the sightseeing bus - this time with sunshine - to get to the National Railway museum. Here, we enjoyed looking at some magnificent engines and a trip to the gift shop!
Then it was onto the Shambles for a bit more retail therapy before a very calm and thoughtful explore of York Minster. We then enjoyed some wonderful views as we walked the city walls.
Back near the YHA later this afternoon, everyone enjoyed some down time at the beautiful Homestead Park followed by another tasty dinner.
The results are in!! We are very proud to announce the results of the Poetry by Heart competition. All 3 pupils who took part got amazing personalised feedback from the judges praising their performance skills and delivery. Congratulations to Ella and Keylen who were awarded commended for their efforts which is fantastic. ☺️ A huge well done to Grace whose performance was judged as the ‘Best in County’ for KS2! What an absolutely amazing achievement! 🤩 We were so close to getting to the final!
We are so proud of them all and cannot wait to run the competition again next year 😊
Meal times at York YHA have been thoroughly enjoyed by Year 6. Pasta and garlic bread last night and a massive choice of yummy breakfast dishes this morning giving us lots of energy for the day!
Yesterday’s activities in York were fantastic!
We went to the Castle Museum, admired the view from the top of Clifford’s Tower, got a little bit damp on the Sightseeing Bus (but dried out again quickly!) and had a brilliant and rather spooky ghost tour!
We are looking forward to today’s Yorkshire adventure!
We’ve had a busy afternoon out and about in York (photos will come on a later post!)
We’re now very excited to be in our rooms at York YHA!
Year 6 have arrived in York! After a successful journey, we are now at the Castle Museum enjoying our packed lunches. Everyone is excited and happy to be here!
This week's Stainton Science superstars at the end of a very busy science week. Congratulations on your superb science efforts investigating the habitats and biodiversity in our local landscapes.
A massive well done to all of the Year 2 children who took part in the football tournament at Greystoke today! Everyone worked well as part of a team and despite the rain…they kept going and persevered to the end, which saw both of our Stainton teams in the final!!!! 1st and 2nd place for Stainton which is such an amazing achievement! The children did an excellent job representing our school! A big thank you to Greystoke for organising the tournament. A great way to start off the Euros! ⚽️ 🏆 ♥️
