ā€˜Hi, we are Naomi and Angel and we are part of the Citywide SENDCO team for Barnardoā€™s Plymouth. We lead our Step by Step groups which are for children with a developmental delay and/or a disability.
Within the groups we use Makaton with singing and when interacting with the children, and we promote the use of communication boards that are introduced to children and families by the speech and language therapists who visit us.
We have experience in full picture exchange (PECS) or AAC based aids. We can discuss this with families, advise on the best way to introduce them with your child and will happily use PECS or an AAC device within a session with children who require them.
Alongside this we also deliver a Solihull Parenting approach for parents of children with disabilities including learning disabilities, where we explore developing verbal and nonverbal communication with your child.ā€™

By age 4 children can use sentences to tell you about their day and things that happened in the past. Most of the words they use will have the correct sounds in them and their sentences will be well formed.

On Thursday 11th July, we are asking for children to come to school in m***i and bring a contribution for the Summer Fayre. We kindly ask that children bring a contribution based on their house colours - red, yellow, blue or green. This can be bottles, sweets, toys, cakes, books etc. All donations would be gratefully received.

Many thanks

Three year olds will often use little sentences to ask for things, to show you things and to tell you what they don't want. Itā€™s common that they may say sentences like ā€˜him want his coatā€™ which donā€™t sound quite right. Donā€™t worry, just copy back to them what they have said using the right words and sounds.

As part of our topic this term ā€œPlymouth Hoe- Our cityā€, we visited the Hoe. In the end the weather was kind to us and we managed to enjoy our visit. We looked at all the landmarks we have been learning about in class: Smeatonā€™s Tower, Sir Francis Drakeā€™s island, Tinside Lido. We also had a walk around the Hoe and looked at Sir Francis Drakeā€™s statue. Of course we couldnā€™t go to the Hoe and not have an ice cream! The children were fantastic representatives for our class and school and it was a great day.

A wonderful afternoon for our Year 1 celebration of learning!

Yesterday STEM club showcased their locomotive builds at the Primary Engineer Celebration Event. The locomotives were put through some tough test, assessing their ability to pull loads and drive forward and backward in a straight line. After this, the children were interviewed by Engineers from local railway companies on the building process.

All the children involved designed and made an electric train which successfully moved forward and backward, which used great collaboration, flexibility and problem solving skills.

A special well done to Finley, whose train came 2nd in the competition.

Well done everyone!
