Whilst out training last Sunday, 3 or our lifejackets decided to set themselves off, although a surprise it was a good lesson for one of out trainees. Once again we are very lucky to have our suppliers on the Island and all 3 jackets were taken to Spinlock and no matter how busy they are, they always get things done for us quickly. A huge thank you to all the team there. 👏👏

A big shout out to two companies today who support us when we need expert help after both our launch vehicles went down on Monday evening.
Firstly to our mechanic and regular goto guy Sam Frampton , after a phone call to him at 7pm to explain our John Deere tractor decided it no longer wanted to keep it hydraulic fluid inside its gearbox. After a short conversation it was agreed he could take off his superman outfit as the vehicle was safe and not going anywhere he would be down first thing Tuesday morning to start repairs, and then our second launch vehicle, our Bateman decided it wanted to get in on the party by loosing all the air in it's front tyre. Unfortunately this took us off service for the night until repairs could be made. First thing Tueday morning a call to one of our newest and again local guys at Wight Tyres who even after the bank holiday managed to get us and the end of the day ie 5.30pm in the rain and repair the puncture, not leaving till gone 7pm.
Now we're not saying that there aren't any national companies that don't offer good service but this is why we use local firms who know and understand our needs and why we are always thankful for going the extra mile. 👏👏

It’s amazing where Bateman sprayers can end up…

We’ve had an association with the Ryde Inshore Rescue service since the 1990s, when Richard Bateman designed a specialist towing vehicle to transport their lifeboat from sand to sea. Fast forward 30+ years, and new solutions were needed.

A team effort by Technical Sales Manager Carl Goff, Sureweld Engineering and the RIS saw a preowned RB15 pressed into service, which, after much modification, is now helping to ensure the lifeboat station can deploy as quickly as possible in times of trouble.

Not surprisingly for the second time this week mother nature is making our lives difficult and make our launching slipway unusable.
With the huge amounts of rain we have had on the Island in the last 4 days this is just a small inconvenience for us that causes our team of volunteers a few hours of their time to make good and get us back on service, this is a small inconvenience that is nothing compared with the flooding and damage to many homes and businesses have suffered this week in Ryde and the whole Island.

It is with much sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ken Matthews on Monday. Ken was a much loved and valued member of Ryde Inshore Rescue for almost 20 years in the role of watch officer, launcher and committee member and in the photo a trainee domestic engineer.
Ken was instrumental in the rebuilding of our station and his vast knowledge was passed onto many our members and crew. Ken was always available to help anyone who needed it, whether it be a word of advice, his skill in woodwork of the loan of tool. Ken will be sadly missed. Our thoughts, prayers and condolences go to his wife Sue, and all his family.
RiP dear friend.

After a random lifejacket inflation, we dropped it off at Spinlock on Tuesday. Jacket services, re-armed and collected 48hrs later. We can not do what we do without the support of fabulous companies like them. Thank you.

Paged at 05.01 this morning to reports of a 5.5m boat with 4 person on board who had been out fishing since last night. The vessel had broken down whilst on their way back to Bembridge. Although the boat was not in any immediate danger as conditions were calm and their anchor was holding, the decision was made to launch RR1 to recover the persons on board at least. When RR1 arrived on scene the Coxswain made the decision to take the boat with fishermen under tow as they were very close to Bembridge Harbour. With the boat and crew safely back in harbour RR1 left Bembridge as the tide was falling and headed back to base to be washed down and made ready for her next tasking with the crew leaving the station just after 7am with most of them off to work.
One of the good things about being up this early in the morning is you get to see some fantastic sunrises.

Some of the same guys that supported us with a cross Solent paddle a few years ago are now taking on a 80 mile hike over 4 days for another well deserved charity.

Photos from Ryde Inshore Rescue's post 07/08/2023

Paged yesterday at 17.50 to a fishing boat aground in the entrance to Wootton Creek. RR1 was launched and made best speed to assist because of the falling tide. Unfortunately nothing could be done to get the boat off the bank but assistance was given to the 3 persons on board to get them safely onto dry land. After making sure all was left secure and safe on the boat with the anchor laid, RR1 returned to station and made ready for her next tasking with the crew leaving the station at 19.30.
