As the summer holidays beckon, we are likely to see more young people jumping from bridges in and around French Weir Park/Longrun Meadow or around the Firepool section of the River Tone.

Since the begining of the month, we've seen improvements to water quality and the reduction of the river height, which is good for our groups accessing the water and other river users.

The alarming factor still remains that groups of young people like to jump off the bridge next to COACH Centre for Outdoor Activities & Community Hub

Little known to the people jumping in, is the solid river bed underneath the bridge. The depth here is less than 2m (6ft) which is not deep enough for jumping into coupled with the solid bottom makes it an accident waiting to happen.

As advice only, (that we have given to many groups) we do not recommend entering the water by the bridge. It only takes one bad decision to end with a potential life changing injury.

Let’s all enjoy the river safely, responsibly and respectfully.
