Whitmore School of Dancing

We are holding our annual Christmas Party for the children on the last Tuesday of the term - 12th December - from 4 - 6.30pm at Staplegrove Village Hall. Children can dress up and wear something sparkly/christmassy. We will be having a fun competition as well as party games and food. We hope all the children can make it!

Just a reminder that lesson fees are due during the first week of term and some are still outstanding. Normally we would need to make a late payment charge but we hate to do that, especially with things being so tight at this time of year. However, hall fees still need to be paid in advance so please, please make sure that you are prompt with your payments for fees and also any t-shirt payments that are still outstanding.

Message from Susanne.

I am extremely proud of all our pupils on yet another extremely successful dance exam day. The examiner has given us very detailed feedback so that we all have something to work on for the next exam. I’m very pleased to say that the school has retained its 100% pass rate and I’m very pleased with the feedback received. Everyone will be given their grades at your next dance class.

We are almost ready for our dance exams which will take place on Sunday 19th November. All the pupils have been working incredibly hard on their routines and have been listening really carefully to the feedback on how to improve their performance.

Just a reminder that the exams will take place at Cheddon Fitzpaine Memorial Hall. All pupils should now have their times. Please make sure you arrive ten minutes prior to your exam time so that Lyn can check you in and allocate your dance number.

Important update regarding the dance exam.

It has now been confirmed that the dance exam will take place on Sunday 19th November at Cheddon Fitzpaine Village Hall. Please remember to confirm your attendance at the exams by completing and returning the form along with full payment by 3rd October.

We have tried to speak to as many parents and pupils as possible this evening but just to confirm the date and venue for the dance exam is changing. Unfortunately Susanne has sustained an injury to her knee and, whilst we are all hoping for a speedy recovery, it’s unlikely that she will be fit for the original date of 7th October.

Therefore, to give Susanne the best chance of a full recovery, the date of the exam has been pushed back to Saturday 25th November and will now take place at Ruishton Village Hall. the exams you will take and the price will remain the same.

As previously stated in your letter, payment and permission to take part in the exam must be received in order to ensure we book a space for you/your child. This now needs to be received by 3rd October please.

Just a reminder that our classes start back next week (week commencing 4th September) starting with our children's classes on Tuesday 5th September. A reminder to our older teens class - your class time has now changed and will run from 5.45pm - 6.45pm.

Our next dance exam will be held on Saturday 7th October at Staplegrove Village Hall - more information will be sent out about that closer to the time.

Thank you to everyone who came to support us at our presentation evening. We raised an amazing £400 for our chosen charity - Fleecehaven - who are eternally grateful for your continued support.

We’re all really looking forward to our first presentation evening since the pandemic.

This is a non-profit evening run to showcase all the work and achievements of our pupils over this year. There will be a children’s raffle, an adult raffle and, of course, some dancing as well as the presentation of awards from our dance exams earlier this year. We will also have the presentation of the Porter’s Trophy which recognises the efforts and dedication of one pupil each year.

The evening will start promptly at 6pm this Friday, 14th July, at Staplegrove Village Hall. Parking will be limited so please consider this and lift share where possible. Entrance is £1 for dancers and £2 for non-dancers which is payable on the door please in cash. All proceeds from the evening will be donated to charity.

All children need to wear their dancing t-shirt and black leggings with hair tied up in a high ponytail with all wispy bits clipped back out of the way please.

Hello to all our lovely dancers. I hope you are all enjoying this beautiful weather. I just wanted to remind you that there has been a change to the term dates for our final term of the year.

Tuesday classes return on Tuesday 6th June and Tuesday 13th June. We then have a two week break and return on Tuesday 4th July for 3 weeks. This means that there are only 5 dancing lessons this term so please adjust your termly payments accordingly.

If you dance on a Wednesday, we return on Wednesday 7th June for two weeks and then have two weeks off restarting again on Wednesday 5th July.

If you dance on a Friday, we return after half term on Friday 9th June. We then have two weeks with out dancing, restarting on Friday 30th June. Additionally, as our presentation evening is being held on a Friday, (14th July) there will only be 4 lessons for your class this term so please adjust your payments accordingly.

As you know, our presentation evening takes place at Staplegrove Village Hall on Friday 14th July from 6pm. There is a £2 charge for non-dancers and a £1 charge for dancers. Please, please could you let Susanne know asap if you or your child can not make the presentation evening as routines for the evening are well under way and changes to numbers will require adjustments to be made to the routines.

A couple of dates for your diary!

We will be holding a Christmas party for our children’s classes on Tuesday 13th December. All classes will be together for the party. Please can children come in their party clothes and arrive at the hall for 4.15pm and the party will end at 6.30pm. We are looking forward to lots of games, food and pressies for the children. 🎄 🎁

Also, the date for our exam has now been confirmed as Saturday 11th March 2023. Please can you let one of the team know if you have a particular requirement for morning or afternoon due to work or other commitments.

Friday 16th June will be our presentation evening of the medals from the exams along with showcasing the dances that we have been working on this year. More details about that closer to the time.

As of the spring term, lessons will return to their pre-COVID timings as follows:

Pink & purple - 4.30 - 5.30
Glitter - 5.45 - 6.45
Neon - 6.45 - 7.45

After the half term break we are starting a new class on a Friday evening at Staplegrove Village Hall from 8pm - 9pm. The class is for beginners with partners and will teach you the basics of Ballroom & Latin. If you’d like more information or to put your names down, please contact Susanne or message the page. Classes will start on Friday 4th November. Please note, you will need to have a partner for this class.

Susanne visited Fleecehaven today to present them with a cheque for a whopping £405 which was raised from the raffle at our show ‘The Joy of Dance’. The lovely ladies who run Fleecehaven were completely overwhelmed by your generosity. The money will go a long way to helping them to care for the sheep who are living with them for a variety of reasons. Thank you all so much.
