Taunton + Pickeridge Golf Club Junior Section
To promote Junior golf at Taunton & Pickeridge golf club. To inform Parents & Players of competitions, selection for matches, events, fund raising etc
The day dawned bright and breezy for the annual Walker Cup Better Ball match between the Junior and Senior sections of T&P. There were 4 pairings of Juniors and Seniors competing, with each section fielding a strong team and the results reflected this. The Juniors won 2 of the matches, lost one and halved the other, thereby winning 2.5 - 1.5 and retaining The Walker Cup for a second year. Thank you to everyone who volunteered to play and very well done to our team of 8 pictured below with the trophy.
Seb and Jack played Greensomes together today for Somerset U12's against Gloucester U12's in a Friendly fixture. There were 4 matches altogether and the result was 2:2. Bet that was a hot one!!
Well done to Ben for winning Junior Gross Championship yesterday for the 2nd year running. His score also put him very near the top in the Mens' Gross Championship too. A great achievement. The Junior Nett was won by George Hutchings but we will have to get a photo of him with his trophy at a later date.
Today was the 32nd Charity Pro-Am at T&P with monies raised going to this year’s nominated charity - Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. The day was dry, albeit a tad chilly for July and some great scores were posted.
The Junior team were Freddie Jarrett, George Hutchings and Joe Tutcher, along with their PGA Professional for the day Sam Scrivens from The Mendip GC. These 3 juniors won their place in the team by having the best aggregate scores in our 3 Pro-Am stableford qualifying competitions in April, May and June. We hope you enjoyed the experience and had a great day!

Joe, Sam Scrivens, George, Freddie
We had a great day for the Junior Open on Sunday 9th and a very respectable field of 36 players in the 18 hole medal after a slow start to registration. We hope you all enjoyed the course and the company of your fellow players and look forward to welcoming you back in 2025. Registration will be live to book from 1st January !!
The Gross Champion was T&P player Ben Newman who was awarded the Junior Gross Trophy and also the Andrew Hayes trophy for best T&P Junior Open gross score of 77.
The Nett Winner was Henry Bright of Woodbury Park GC who scored a 68.
Here they are being awarded their trophies.
Full details of all the results are on the Junior Open page of the T&P junior website. www.tpgcjuniors.co.uk

19th May was a busy day for the T&P Junior Section. We had a team at Yeovil playing in a Somerset South Division league match and 2 teams at Saltford playing in their Junior Open and also the Somerset Junior Club Team Championships.
At Yeovil we scored 15 points from the matches our 4 juniors played in which puts us 2nd in the league table at the moment, 1 point behind Wheathill. Archie was 2nd in Category 1, George was 1st and Freddie 2nd in Category 2 and Cooper was 4th in Category 3. Well played all of you. Here is George being presented with his memento for winning Cat 2.
Great success all round with Finley and Ben both going round the course at Saltford in a score of 78 gross. Finley won on countback and the boys were 1st and 2nd in the Open Gross competition. Here they are receiving their awards.
Thanks to all the T&P juniors who represented the club that day- Ben, Finley, Alfie, Morgan, Thomas and Seb.
After a glorious weekend the rain returned in style today and Junior Club Night was a wash out. The Pro-Am Qualifier due to take place today will now happen next week - Monday 20th May.
This young man got a hole in one on 12a yesterday. Congratulations Cooper. We are sure it won’t be the last. Here he is on another occasion recently being awarded a prize for being placed in a league match. Good things in store….
Just over a month to go until The T&P Junior Open on Sun 9th June. Tee times still available to book. See poster below for how to enter. Great course, great welcome, great prizes!
T&P hosted the first league match of the season in the Somerset Junior Golf South Division on Sunday 21st April. Well done to all the players representing T&P, Yeovil, Wheathill and Long Sutton. There were juniors competing in all 3 categories and the results are that Yeovil go into the 2nd match in the lead with 14 pts. Wheathill have 13, Long Sutton 11 and T&P 10 so it is very close. Here are some of the T&P players being presented with their awards for being placed in the results.
We are looking forward to hosting the first Somerset Junior Golf South Division league match of the season on Sunday 21st April. Let’s hope for a dry day and some good golf. Please see the tee times below:
The first Club night of the 2024 season was on a windy and slightly wet 8th April. Well done to those who braved the elements. We had a stableford competition to kick off the season and first place went to Ben Newman with 34 points and Thomas Gendall was second with 32. Your winnings have been credited to your pro shop accounts.
We held an indoor coaching session on Thur 21st March in the clubhouse with chipping and putting games, followed by a meal and then some coaching on the rules of golf, etiquette and scorecards. Thank you to our Head Professional, Jason Avery, for running the session and to Dean and his staff for helping set up and clear away afterwards. It was great to see the Juniors after a long, wet Winter and we look forward to the start of the Junior season on 8th April.
It was also an opportunity to recognise Cooper Baker for being the Most Improved Fox Cub of 2023 as he missed the Presentation Awards in November.
Despite the rain, sometimes hail, rolling in from the West this morning, the annual Captains’ Drive-In took place today at T&P. Well done to Alfie Sully, the 2024 Juniors Captain, for smashing his drive down the middle of the 1st fairway with an audience looking on. He was followed by Emma, Ladies Captain, Barry, Seniors Captain and Mike the Club Captain with all 3 keeping their nerve and delivering great drives.
Roll on the season and some dry, warm weather!
The date of our Junior Open is getting closer. Surely it will have stopped raining by then? We are proud to also be hosting a Justin Rose Junior Golf Championship Qualifier that day

I said we had been busy!
On Monday 23rd T&P were represented in the Junior Team Golf Home Nations Inter club Championships England Final,( a bit of a mouthful to be sure) at The Players Club, Bristol. As the South West regional winners we were playing against other regional winners from all over England to determine who will then play against Scotland, Wales and Ireland in a Home Nations Final next Spring. There were teams from The Midlands, South East, North East and North West as well as ourselves from the South West - 8 in all.
Conditions were very wet and the going was tough. Enfield Juniors from South East region were the winners so very well done to them. The team scores ranged from 373, Enfield, to 414 and T&P came in with a very good score of 389 ranking us 4th out of the 8 teams. It is a great achievement to reach the England Final and the Junior team here at the club are very proud of you all. Here is the team on the day and thank you the others who played in the qualifiers to help us get there. Also a huge thank you to Claire, Peter’s Mum, for being there with the team on the day
From left to right are Morgan, Alfie, Peter Theo, Finley & Ben
What a busy weekend the Juniors had last week, playing on both Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd in Finals matches.
As the West Division League winners, we were in a final against the East Division winners, Wells Juniors, at Long Sutton on Sunday to determine the overall champions for 2023. On the day it was Wells who scored highest playing individual stableford and they take home the shield. Well done to them!
Thank you to the team of T&P Juniors who gave their all on the day and to the other juniors who played in previous league matches to get us into the final. We had a good season.
From left to right are Corey, Ben, Peter, Tate & Lewis.
Well done T&P Juniors for a great effort today in the Somerset Junior Golf League Final, coming Runners Up to Wells. You will all have played your socks off, we know.

It has been a really busy weekend for The Junior Section. We played in the south west regional semi finals of The Junior Team Golf Home Nations Championship at Launceston on Saturday 30th against teams from Wrag Barn in Wiltshire, Bramshaw in Hampshire and Exeter, Devon and ended the day winning in cold and windy conditions. It was a superb achievement by the team and we go through to the England National Final which is being played at The Players Club, Bristol on Mon 23rd October. Here is a photo of the team from yesterday. Sadly Finley Pyke had to leave early so he is missing from the photo. Well done lads and also to Berni, who walked round with them in the cold, windy weather.
Ben, 2nd from left, had the 2nd lowest gross score of the day with 78 and Alfie, in the middle, had the lowest nett score of the day with 69.
Last match of the season in the Somerset Junior Golf, West Division League and it was played at Burnham & Berrow today.
