1 Year as a boxing coach! 🥊
This past year I have trained 20+ people boxing and noticed a huge growth in their mental health and their physical fitness ♥️
I love the endorphin release that boxing gives me… it’s a great stress release and over the last 5 years has allowed me to control my mental health, as well as keeping me in shape 🧠
If you suffer from stress or mental health issues; find something that allows you to have fun and let out that stress in a controlled manner 😂
For me it’s boxing, but it could be anything - as long as it takes you away from that dark mindset ♥️
I am starting up some boxing themed bootcamps in July to create a team environment, learn the basics of boxing and have fun burning calories 🏃♂️ 🥊

My physique update:-
When I started my bulk I was 76.2kg.
I have just hit 83.4kg which is the heaviest I have ever been.
Result?
I’m feeling nice and fluffy like a cheese soufflé and stronger than Kanye West 🧀 🎤
Next step?
Next step is to get to 85/86kg before going on a mini cut… watch this space 🔪

On a serious note, huge shoutout to .project.sparkes for holding me accountable the whole way so far 💪
As a PT myself it’s great to have someone who looks after me as it’s easy to put my goals second when focussing on my wonderful peeps.

NEXT STEP 💪
Today was the last time that I will be teaching classes at 🥺
It’s been an emotional ride these past 2 and a bit years and it’s been an incredible experience seeing the progress and increase in self belief of so many people 💪🧠
I’m super grateful for the opportunity of being a fitness instructor and lead classes; It has given me so much confidence and a real feel good factor every week (apart from a double spin and passing out before the HEAT class) 🤣
Also, the amazing regulars who showed up week in week out to my spin and pump classes for the Thursday and Sunday sessions you’re all legends 👑
Now it’s onto the next step of being a fully self employed 1-1 personal trainer and boxing coach at Puregym Tunbridge Wells (I’m not going anywhere you lucky devils)
Jokes aside, I cannot wait to spend more time focussing on my clients/dynamos and myself 😍
I didn’t mean for this to sound like an Oscar speech, but it needs to be said 😂

Why do I train?
Here is the deeper reason behind why I train and why I want to gain muscle mass 🦅
1 - I want to gain 10kg of muscle mass from 77kg to 87kg 💪
Why do you want to gain 10kg of muscle?
2 - To feel more bodily confident 🤟
Why do you want to feel more confident in your body?
3 - So I can be more confident in day to day life, I.e. be present and happy in the moment, I.e. speaking to friends, family and relationship 🙌
Why do you want to be more confident day to day you spice?
4 - I feel like I'm one step short of true happiness and that lies in me and the perception of myself 🧠
Why do you feel like this is important?
5 - I know that if I get there is a chance I won't be happy, but this goal is the structure and routine I need to help in other aspects of my life 💥
Boom… the bottom 2 why’s there are the most important.
In summary “I’m one step short of my true happiness and viewing myself in a better light will lead to countless mental benefits in other aspects of my life”
That is what gaining 10kg of muscle mass may bring me 💪
If you are asking yourself one of the below:-
I want to ‘tone up’
I want to ‘lose weight’
I want to ‘gain muscle’
I want a ‘six pack’
I want to ‘get stronger’
I want to ‘improve a particular skill I.e sports specific’
Etc etc
Take time and ask yourself why 5 times. The answers are in you and only you know why you want to achieve the goal.
If you don’t have a clear goal identity then you can’t track your progress, and it is very hard then to stay motivated and disciplined when you don’t have a reason why (at least for me).
Disclaimer:- I’ve been guilty of this before previously and it lead to a lot of frustration for me so hopefully this saves you time if you are frustrated with your direction in the gym 💪
DMs are always open and I offer free goal setting upgrade sessions if you are a bit lost or frustrated with going around in circles 🙌

SQUAT MOBILITY - what I can tell from your squat 🏋️♀️
You can tell a lot from someone’s overhead squat form as to where their overactive and under active muscles are.
Here is an example of one of my client’s overhead squats before and after a mobility session.
Let’s look at the left picture. I got Ben to squat 5 times without giving too many cues to see his tendencies.
I could tell a couple of things:-
💡 - He struggles with getting deep in the squat without his torso wanting to lean forwards.
💡 - His lower back wants to tuck under his body.
💡 - He finds it hard to squat without falling backwards.
What we did:-
💡 - Got the hip flexors firing
💡 - Woke the glutes up
💡 - Stretched the calf muscles
💡 - Hip mobility exercises
💡 - Core work
💡 - Squat holds designed to activate the front of the lower leg (tibialis anterior)
💡 - Some lovely zombie squats to counter the want to lean back.
As you can see now from the right picture I took Ben on a bit of a journey 😂
However, the results don’t lie and already he is starting to zombie squat with good form.
The next stage now is to drop the need for counter weight reliance and move onto some further full body strengthening ready for goblets 🔥

BRINGING EVERYONE TOGETHER 👫👭👬
Lockdown has separated us, frustrated us, and tired us all...
Mental health issues are on the rise and due to loneliness, lack of coping strategies, and little to no connection with our close friends and family; some of us are struggling to see a positive side and get out of these tough uncertain times. 🧠
After watching Roman Kemp’s documentary on the silent emergency and having our own previous mental health issues; me and H have been inspired to try and connect people again and get people talking. 🗣
So with that in mind we are going to create a Fitness and Mindset podcast plus a Facebook and IG page where we can work towards building a strong and healthy community 💪
We want to try and actively do something to try and break the stigma of not talking about what is REAL in the world and get people to FEEL their own feelings again.
On our new Facebook and IG pages we will be giving tips on what has helped us cope with our problems in the past and also post anything related to the topics we discuss on the podcast. 🎧
We want to make this as interactive as possible so we can all share ideas, give each other encouragement and just basically make each other feel good man.
In addition to the mental health side of things we will be talking about fitness and other related topics to try and give support in any way we can. Guests maybe a feature in the future but we will judge based on the uptake.👌
We are creating the pages in the next few days and the first podcast will be available in the next couple of weeks!

This drill was made famous by Jamal Liggin and Odell Beckham Junior for use in American football; but this can be used as a great drill for:-
- Goalkeeping
- Basketball
- Netball
- Tennis
- Fun activity with friends and fam
