COVID-19 Advice, Support & Guidance - West Midlands Violence Reduction Unit The changes are inevitably causing a lot of disruption to the way in which we all live, and to our normal ways of working together. This is a frightening and unsettling time for many young people and those who were already at heightened risk of violence. But we are also seeing people step forward to...
Covid-19
Did you know?
Normal body temperature is 36.5 to 37.5 degrees Celsius. Fever is around 38
degrees or hotter.
Some people will not know they have the illness because their symptoms are
mild or not even noticeable. 80% of people will recover without needing special
treatment. For them, it will be like having a bad cold or the flu. A few people – WHO
say one in six people – will develop a more serious respiratory illness and may need
hospitalisation. Some of these people will die.
There is currently no treatment specifically for coronavirus and so treatments will try
to relieve the symptoms while the body’s immune system fights the illness. Research
to find a vaccine or suitable medications is ongoing but this will take some time.
Antibiotics are not effective against viruses so will not be prescribed.
Who is at risk?
People older than 60 and those with underlying medical issues are more at risk from
Covid-19 because the symptoms can put more strain on their bodies. Underlying
medical conditions carrying a particular risk include:
• Cardiovascular disease – high blood pressure or heart problems
• Respiratory conditions – asthma, COPD or other chronic lung conditions
• Cancer
• Diabetes
Not just a game: Nearly 80 per cent of parents report decrease in children’s wellbeing due to lack of youth sport during lockdown An international study of youth sport during the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of sport for social, mental and physical wellbeing.
