Celebrating 4 years of freelancing!! 🥳
I cannot believe it’s been 4 years since I took the leap and left my in house design job for self employed life - and there’s no turning back now!
Harriet Ruscoe Design, has evolved over the years and I’m excited to continue to grow. The best, (and sometimes equally, the worst) part of freelancing is wearing many many hats at once and I love working on a wide variety of creative briefs. Utilising the broad range of skills I learnt whilst working in house with brands.
In this post is some examples of my favourite pieces of work from the past four years and a quick overview of the creative services I deliver.
As Textile print designer, I work on Bespoke Prints for boutique brands, whether it’s a one off print, a full print collection or creative direction of prints from concept to final designs. I create collections with textile studios to sell all around the world and have my own online shop .print.boutique which sells exclusive textile prints directly through my website. I have been able to use my skills to expand my client base over the years, working with home & fashion suppliers and retailers on Trend Packs and mood boards. Illustration for stationery, home and beauty products. Graphic designs used on clients website & blogs, social media and promotional items. With ideas never ending as a creative, I also have a side hustle brand .e.r.home . Mainly a separate instagram account for now, where my design inspirations are vintage English country homes and chintz interior fabrics. I’ve created prints and textiles under the brand, and have enjoyed selling Christmas wrapping papers for the past couple of years. h.e.r.home is a work is progress but something I’m excited to carefully build in the coming years.
If you’d like to discuss working on a creative project together you can get in touch at [email protected] or take a look at my website for more info: www.harrietruscoedesign.co.uk ✨
Back to it! Ten days off as a freelancer means coming back to writing to do list after to do list - and I love it 🫶🏻
Out of office 🌴🍹
Packed up my work corner for one last very exciting trip for the year. I had planned to launch my new print collection pre-holiday but decided that was absolute madness and will now be launching at the end of October 😄 So excited to have some new work out in the world and for a shop revamp

The journey of a pea chair 🫛👇🏻
Just over 2 years ago I spotted this little chair in the charity shop for £30, I saw visions of him living a new life in a brightly coloured velvet, so snapped him up.
I spent a lot of time trawling through velvets, pinks, oranges, blues but finally settled on this vibrant pea green. With some (a lot of) help from my dad and a garage to store our new project, we started work. Making first a calico toile, we had no idea if this is the done thing in upholstery but it felt like a great first step…
Then I got too scared to cut into the beautiful velvet and we didn’t touch the chair for a year and a half, and instead started 3 different projects. Like all good project lovers do.
Finally I made some paper patterns and cut into that velvet. Creating piping, and sewing the front and back pieces together. We sourced new antique castor wheels to add to the front two legs too!
Many months later we finally headed to the garden (🤷🏼♀️) to staple all the pieces carefully to the chair, creating strategic pleats and folds to upholster in the neatest way possible.
Et voilà! Our very first, possibly last, upholstery project complete. Adding our ‘Ruscoe’ stamp of approval for good measure. Pea, now very proudly living his new velvet life next to my reference book bookshelf 💚 ~ Sneak peek of the first .e.r.home fabrics inspired by this green at the end 👀
Recently started working on some new ideas for my print shop. Decided to spend some time getting ideas more developed and working into my rough sketches a little more than usual. Here’s a few closeups from this weeks sketchbook roughs 🎨

Inspiration in Mykonos…
I try not to go on a relaxing holiday and come back with notes for future projects but it’s hard to let the creative brain stop, particularly when you’re self employed and run a business reliant on your creativity and often needing a catalogue of new ideas at the ready (or at least some sparks of ideas ✨)
I have always loved taking photos of anything and everything that my eye is drawn to, it’s that first flicker of creativity and always the best starting point for a project to develop out from. I’ll snap as many photos as possible of whatever it is that’s caught my eye and make a quick note of an idea in my phone then my brain can let go of it and holiday relaxation can continue. Hoping I’m not the only creative who does this?! 😅
Loved the reds and pinks scattered throughout Mykonos’ town, working on developing moodboards with this theme in mind and I’m envisioning a print collection for .print.boutique 👀 (a few more themes in mind too…)
Working on some gouache elements for some kids prints today 🌿
Current inspirations from my desk mood board 💭
Can’t stop, won’t stop squeezing more upclycled furniture into our tiny flat 🤭 A fresh pop of red for my design corner and somewhere to have a little sit at my “standing” table…🫶🏻
