Today we started preparing for a private event tomorrow. These yutbruk stuffed vine leaves always go down a treat.

Last night we catered for leadership gathering yesterday. A hot buffet for 50.
Everyone loved the food!

We had a great time tonight. For we partnered with to run a online cookery school. Tonight we had 50 people join us to cook along at home with Chef Anas. He led them in making Baameah, an Okra dish that his mum taught him how to make, back home in Syria.
The event was also a fundraiser for university of sanctuary scheme that enables refugee students to learn for free and in safety.

Over the last year we've had the opportunity to cater at some amazing events. This time last year we were getting ready for the Radix Big Tent Festival. We won't forget their dinner where as well as serving up an beautiful Afghan feast, we also got to address a room full of important people and share our lived experience stories of what it is like to settle in York as a refugee.

One of those stories shared didn't have a happy ending. It was of a refugee brought here by the government for her safety, but then forgotten about and rejected by the system. Sat a room of leaders were our local MP, council leader and also the Shadow Immigration Minister. It's fair to say that her story changed the tone of the evening. Questions we asked in the room and afterwards.

In a small way it felt like we'd been part of something good, where the future immigration policy of the country was influenced for good. By getting a group of thinkers and practitioners together, those who are passionate about fairness and equality in the city, things we starting to change.

In July we're catering for the launch of York Together a group of like-minded individuals from across York who are all passionate about community empowerment and creating change. PS I'm happy to say that our refugee friend's story is different now. She has the right to live here, in a free and safe place.

This week we stand to use over 16KGs of dried Chickpeas for all of our events!
This reminded me of an old post - the Life Cycle of a Chickpea!
This is the journey of transformation that each one of our little friends goes on to become our beloved falafels!

The process involves organising the dried chickpeas, soaking them overnight, incorporating herbs, onions, and garlic, grinding and blending with spices and salt, frying, and finally serving them fresh with a sprinkle of Sumac.

It was might be a proper English summer's day... But we've got some fresh falafel and baklava for you. Come get it whilst it's hot and we're not drowned!
