Distraction whilst driving is one of the Fatal 5 main causes of death and serious injury on our roads. We see people being distracted everyday whether it be putting makeup, using devices, reading paperwork. A split second can change someones life forever.

As we enjoy the warmer weather we will naturally see more motorcyclists on our roads.

There are quite a few big events happening in North Yorkshire this weekend and despite the weather forecast there is likely to be quite a lot of motorbikes out and about. Drivers make sure you check your mirrors and riders please take care when filtering through traffic. Don't be the one saying "Sorry mate, I didn't see you"
If you're going to be following the football over the next few weeks remember to make your travel plans before you have a drink. Have a designated driver, arrange to stay at a friends, book a taxi. Don't shatter lives by drinking and driving.
On Tuesday evening our co-ordinator Helen and TC Hoyle from the road safety team at North Yorkshire Police attended a meeting of the York Advanced Drivers. They explained what the partnership aims to do and showed some of the work that we have completed. The group were able to discuss issues and concerns with them and some of them had a go with our VR headsets.
The NYFRS FireBike came along with a police motorcycle rider and the group were keen to hear about their work too.
We look forward to working with the group in the future.
The fire bikes are a really big part of our work in road safety. They promote advanced rider training and safe skills. Engagement with motorcyclists and making other road users more aware of them is important for us as we unfortunately see too many killed and seriously injured riders on our roads.
Well done to Karl!
Please join us in congratulating Karl T, who this morning took his RoSPA advanced test with RoSPA Examiner Gary K, and passed with a Gold grade!
All the FireBike riders must pass the RoSPA test before being 'signed off' to ride the FireBikes. Many thanks to RoSPA group Advanced Riders North Yorkshire whose expert Tutors took Karl through his training. Great result👍👍.
