110 (City of York) Sqn ATC
City of York Sqn based in the Central and East Yorkshire Wing | Royal Air Force Air Cadets
Congratulations to CWO Eiles on achieving Gold Cyber!
Recently, 4 of our cadet NCOs, alongside Flt Lt Keasley, visited the grave of an ex-cadet of 110 Squadron.
The cadet died as a result of a tragic accident whilst on an Air Experience Flight in 1946. This therefore hits close to home for 110, as not only did he attend our squadron, but the tragedy occurred during a routine Air Experience Flight, something so familiar and common place within the organisation.
Each year, on the anniversary of his death the Squadron visits his grave to honour his death and remember the ex 110 cadet with a small service.
May he rest in peace.
The Squadron is very proud of the group of Cadets and Cadet NCOs who recently represented 110 Squadron at the recent Wing Competetion day.
A huge congratulations goes to CDT CPL Gilmour and his modelling team who won first place! A huge achievement for the squadron.
A massive well done also goes to the number of cadets who represented us in the several events, aswell as the number of cadets who assisted in the practice and preparation.
The Squadron is very pleased with how everyone has performed and with hopes to keep up the momentum of progression we have going so far.
๐ June's NCO of the Month ๐
Well done CPL Gilmour! ๐
CPL Gilmour is modelling IC for our Wing Competitions Day team and a highly motivated and self-disciplined individual. He's done a fantastic job organising, coordinating and producing the best results 110's modelling team have ever produced, whilst also enforcing and inspiring others to follow his disciplinary standards.
He's truly a one of a kind NCO and we are extremely lucky to have him at York squadron. CPL Gilmour has made massive progress in himself ever since his promotion to the rank and NCO team and it should be something to be proud of!

๐ฉJUNO FLIGHT GRADUATION๐
Well done Juno flight!!
Very recently our Juno flight (the squadrons newest intake of cadets) having completed their First Class training, graduated from the flight and have integrated with the rest of 110
CDTs Austin, Bagnall, Bond, Frear, Gilmour, Kim, Moncaster, Pulleyn, Sayers and Scherhag are 110s newest cadets and will prove great assets to the flights and 110 as a whole !
A massive thank you and well done goes to our CDT SGT Bonnar and CDT CPLs Gillies and Hawkins who were integral to the development of 110s newest cadets!
We hope to see plenty of badges and awards coming to the newbies over the coming weeks and we are greatly excited to watch them develop as cadets!
๐โโ๏ธ๐ฉWING ATHLETICS๐ฉ๐โโ๏ธ
A MASSIVE well done to our 110 cadets who absolutely smashed it at Wing Athletics on Sunday. Not only did many of our cadets come away with some shiny medals๐
but we won in the Junior Mens category and the whole event!!!
A huge shout out needs to be given to CDTs Bruce, Jankee and Grayling who brought down their cameras to take some beautiful pictures of our participating athletes!
And another special mention to 110s CDT Carey who was the marshaling for the event!
The squadron turned out a huge 50 Cadets who supported, participated and won across many events ! We hope to see some of our cadets at the upcoming Regional Athletics day competing for the Wing!๐
๐ฉ DEVELOPMENT DAY โ๏ธ
Recently we had one of our 110 Squadron development days! We covered lots of important content both current and potential future JNCOs could learn from!
The Squadron was lucky enough to have a visit from 2487 Easingwold SQN Royal Air Force Air Cadets's SGT Lill and 58 Squadron - Harrogate Air Cadets's SGT Inglis to help with the development of both Leadership and Drill/Uniform respectively. The sector are coming together more and more often to help deliver training via the great resources we have available!
The day consisted of both classroom style and practical lessons, with the group having to come together to attempt to complete a seemingly impossible leadership task aswell engaging in some great drill development!
"i liked how we all got to take turns taking front of a flight" said CDT Simpson "it gave us more confidence and different techniques to make us louder it was very fun".
Overall the day was a great success with uniform, drill and teamwork looking strong all around, the team over at 110 seems to keep growing stronger. ๐ช๐

CDTs Zawada, Septon-Stead and Demsash along with CDT CPL Brady, CDT FSGT Orr and Cadet Warrent Officer Eiles all got the chance to go up and enjoy flying !
Hopefully even more of our cadets get a chance to go flying soon enough and potentially earn themselves some Blue wings ๐๐
โฝ๏ธWING FOOTBALLโฝ๏ธ
An absolutely huge well done to our 110 cadets who traveled to Rochdale to represent, not only 110 squadron, but all of Central and East Yorkshire Wing in 5-a-side football on Saturday!
A great turn out from 110: with CDT Matthews in the Junior team, CDT Jankee and CDT CPLs Reid and Gillies in the Intermediate team and CDT CPLS Brady and Edwards aswell as CDT SGT Gillies in the Senior team.
"It was a great chance to meet people from other squadrons in our Wing aswell as other wings" Said CDT CPL Edwards "it was great getting a chance to represent the wing"
No medals were won (this time!) but all those representing have now gained a Wing Blue Badge, an amazing achievement!โ๏ธ
โ๏ธ JET2 TRIP โ๏ธ
Last week, 110 (City of York) Squadron were fortunate enough to visit Jet2.com at their base at Leeds Bradford Airport. Cadets were treated to a fascinating insight into the various careers available in the civil aviation sector, including some amazing opportunities with Jet2.com on their apprenticeship schemes.
Cadets also had a behind the scenes tour of the Operations Control Centre, to see how the airline is run for the benefit of all their customers.
Reflecting on the day, FS Orr said โIt was amazing to be able to see how many different career opportunities are available in the civilian world, including engineering and future pilot schemes.โ
CWO Eiles added โBeing able to see how Jet2 work behind the scenes to ensure their aircraft depart safely and on time was really interesting. It has definitely made me consider a career with them in the futureโ
Flt Lt Keasley, who accompanied the cadets on their visit said โWe are very grateful to everyone at Jet2 for giving their time to show our young people the opportunities available at the airline, and across the civil aviation sector. The cadets had a fantastic time, and particularly enjoyed participating in the safety demonstration!โ
A massive thank you to the Great Northern Classics for hosting us today at their wonderful facilities! The cadets had a blast learning and seeing what makes an engine, how and why.
Thank you to the CivCom for providing us with such a fantastic opportunity and we are excited to have worked with the GNC to show off the rich history of engines and Rolls-Royce ๐
โ๏ธ TUTOR FLIGHTS โ๏ธ
Last month, we managed to get 4 of our cadets flying in the Grob Tutor, at AEF 11.
Due to inclement weather, some cadets have not had the opportunity to fly, however it doesn't stop us trying again!
Well done to CDTs Carey, Wardell, Fairfield and Matthews for getting up there. A massive achievement and a memory you'll always remember ๐

โญ NCO OF OCTOBER AWARD โญ
A huge round of applause goes to cadet SGT Gillies on becoming the NCO of the Month for October ๐๐ช
Not only was he presented with his certificate tonight, but it was also his 18th birthday too, which made it all the more fitting! Well done Sergeant.
Over the course of the month, SGT Gillies has shown extreme enthusiasm not only within his flight that he runs, but also personal enthusiasm for the organisation. He has strived and challenged himself to be a part of the Wing First Aid Team, of which he also managed to complete his Method of Instruction qualification alongside too!! (Pictured in the second picture at Stockton Squadron)
He continues to find ways to improve himself and his cadets in Tempest flight, which is something that the CWO was pleased to see - hence his award tonight.
We hope to see him continue his motivation and enthusiasm throughout the rest of his career in the cadets and outside of it too! Well done Mr Gillies ๐

๐น ARMISTICE SUNDAY PARADE ๐น
A somber day, but also a proud one for our squadron.
We put on a fantastic display of drill on the way down to Memorial Gardens and back towards Clifford's Tower, and we couldn't be any more proud of our cadets, NCOs and Adult Volunteers that allowed it to happen.
Not only that, but we also managed to get all 25 of our Recruitment Flight on the parade too, with them only being in the organisation for 7 weeks! We had the biggest turn out in years and that's something we hold with high regard ๐ช

As Armistice Sunday draws in closer, the squadron has been making its preparations towards the parade.
Tonight was an incredible night where we managed to get the band, banner party, main squadron and all of our New Recruit Flight to partake in a mock Remembrance Sunday parade, with CWO Eiles leading it.
Not only that, but the Sector OC, Sqn Ldr Griffiths and Sector WO, WO Greenhall, paid a visit during our Annual General Inspection, to which they paid high regards to our performances!
We look forward to putting on a display on Sunday and putting our preparation to show ๐ช

They are both budding aviators that have a keen interest in becoming a pilot, so we are glad to hear that knowledge towards this goal has been broadened.
Many thanks to Central & East Yorkshire Wing Aerospace for hosting our cadets!

As we draw closer to Armistice Sunday, 110 Squadron begins its annual preparations for remembrance.
Our first official event of the year was to attend the Festival of Remembrance at St. Peters School, of which some of our cadets served teas, coffees and collected poppy donations, on behalf of the Royal British Legion โ
Not only that, but the cadets put on a fantastic display of ceremonial drill, alongside the Sea and Army Cadet contingents!
Well done all for your attendance and we look forward to next weekend's poppy collections and parade! More to come next week...

It's not just our current cadets who are achieving big things; our ex-cadets are also moving onto greater prospects too!
Well done to the now AR Dias, who recently graduated from his Basic Recruit Training in the Royal Air Force, as of the 11th of October ๐๐
He was one of the most passionate cadets at the City of York Squadron, being promoted all the way up to Flight Sergeant, before he left us in July, and it's clear that the drive and passion he had as a cadet has followed him through to the RAF.
AR Dias was promoted to Senior Recruit of his flight, throughout his training, as a result of his valiant efforts to be the best at everything he could, and obviously due to his gained experiences in the RAFAC too ๐
The graduation parade was a lovely and fitting ceremony to summarise the 12 grueling weeks of training that Thompson Intake 727 had undertaken, with AR Dias being personally inspected by the Reviewing Officer, Air Commodore Hellard.
Finally, family and friends travelled down to RAF Halton to join him and congratulate him on one of the proudest achievements of George's life, as well!
The squadron and the RAFAC wish him all the best with his Phase 2 Training at RAF Cosford, and we hope to see more of him at York over the 15 months at Cosford and into his RAF Career! Well done AS2 Dias and even though you're in the RAF, you'll always be ๐ช

๐จ NEW OFFICER COMMANDING AT YORK ๐จ
Fg Off Gaudiosi is the boss at 110 (City of York) Squadron, succeeding Flt Lt Keasley, who was our interim OC until a permanent one filled the position.
Flt Lt Keasley is Deputy OC of the Junior Leaders course, and with it being an extremely demanding role for him, running such a large squadron and managing JL became impossible to do at the same time. He is still 2IC at the squadron, having a more NCO and Staff development focus now, bringing in his leadership training from JL to the squadron! We wish him the very best with his new role at the squadron and we are sure that he and Fg Off Gaudiosi will work as a fantastic team to deliver the very best ๐ช
Fg Off Gaudiosi has spent numerous years in the Central and East Yorkshire Wing, having previously come from Durham and Northumberland Wing. He spent his Adult SNCO years at both Harrogate and Knaresborough Squadron and then recently commissioning in late 2022 and transferring to York in early 2023.
Whilst at York, he served as Adjutant under Flt Lt Keasley, understanding how our squadron operates and getting to know the Senior Management Team of the squadron. As of September, he was promoted to Officer Commanding at York and using his variable knowledge and experience he has reshaped the staff and NCO team, bringing in help from all across the wing to make sure we have a #1 squadron!
We applaud the work he has done thus far and we can't wait to see what the future has in store at 110 (City of York) Squadron, with Fg Off Gaudiosi and Flt Lt Keasley at the helm of its leadership!

NCO of the Month for September is CDT SGT Jamie Orr ๐
SGT Orr is the current IC of the new cadet recruit flight after CI Dobson aged out in August, and with the new appointment came a promotion to the SNCO team too. It's safe to say that he has an extremely important role on squadron as he manages the day to day operations of a flight of cadets that's comparable to most squadron sizes in the corps ๐ฑ
It's a tough and dedicated role that the SGT has had to fulfil whilst still being quite new to it all, however despite that, he has proven to successfully run a new cadet intake to standards we haven't seen in years! He is an exemplary leader to his 3 corporals and a fantastic asset within the SNCO team too!
Alongside his duties as a flight commander, he is Leadership NCO at the squadron too, coordinating all leadership activities that take place here at York. Not only did he become the most qualified NCO for this role, he got accepted and passed ACLC with flying colours in order to achieve one of the highest leadership awards a cadet can get - although JL Dep OC Flt Lt Keasley would say there is still room for improvement ๐
We are very proud to have SGT Orr at 110 and we hope that many more JNCOs and cadets can follow in his footsteps.

๐จ LATEST PROMOTION ๐จ
The now Cadet Warrant Officer recently passed his CWO board with OC Sector, Sqn Ldr Griffiths, and has been promoted to the highest rank a cadet can achieve in the corps! Well done CWO Eiles on this absolutely fantastic achievement ๐๐
He is the current Cadet NCO Team IC and is now one of many Cadet Warrant Officers that have run the Cadet NCO team at York Squadron, over its history and we are most definitely proud to have him on board at the squadron!
Well done CWO. It wasn't an easy board, but the new rank is more than enough proof of the hard work and dedication he puts in to making sure his NCOs are at their fullest potential and to deliver the best possible training to the 80+ cadets at the squadron.
Many more promotions will follow as a result of one of the biggest changes to the chain of command at the squadron! Stay tuned... ๐

๐ NORTH REGIONS SKILL WEEKEND ๐
Over summer from the 25th August to the 1st September NCOs from our squadron went on a camp to Altcar with the region.
Over the course of the week they took part in a multitude of activities such as:
Shooting ๐ซ
Archery ๐น
Paintballing ๐จ๐ซ
Clay target shooting
Fieldcraft ๐ช
An obstacle course ๐
STEM ๐ฉโ๐ฌ๐ญ
A400M visit โ๏ธ

Hereโs what SGT Kneeshaw had to say about the campโฆ ๐ฃโIt was an excellent experience. Firing the L81 was my favourite moment.โ

๐ BATTLE OF BRITAIN SERVICE ๐
Today 30 cadets from our squadron were invited to take part in a remembrance ceremony at York Minster we were also joined by the RAF Association and Yorkshire Universities Air Squadron
We couldnโt be anymore proud of everyone who attended today! Itโs an honour to take part in events like these; they really are so meaningful.
Hereโs what some of the cadets had to say about the serviceโฆ
โI loved being a part of coming together to remember those who gave their lives for us in the Battle of Britain. Itโs such an amazing feeling representing the Royal Air Force Air Cadets at big events like these.โ
โIt is important to remember as those who donโt remember risk repeating itโ

RAFA COLLECTIONS
On Saturday you may have seen some of our cadets spread out all across York raising money for the RAF Association!
What is the RAF Association?
The Royal Air Forces Association, also known as RAF Association or RAFA, is a British registered charity. It provides care and support to serving and retired members of the Air Forces of the British Commonwealth, and to their dependents.
After a hard day of work we all felt super proud to have raised money for such an important charity.

A few weeks back, some of our fieldcraft keen cadets got to partake in a basic fieldcraft level training weekend at the Driffield Cadet Training Centre.
They camped out over night, learnt all there is to know about fieldcraft, campcraft and basic survival skills, which all come in handy in either their civilian or potential service lives!
CDT CPL Bagnall said they "spent the night out in the forest and learnt valuable skills that we hope to use in the future."
