Latest information regarding Asian hornet early season surveillance.
From the analysis conducted at Fera Science Ltd a number of areas have been identified where there is a low risk that Asian hornet queens have overwintered. In response the NBU are making plans to carry out spring trapping, including how to work collaboratively with stakeholders to monitor traps at locations across Kent, East Sussex, Devon and North Yorkshire. BeeBase will be updated if there are any credible sightings or Asian hornets captured.
Please report sightings of Vespa velutina using the Asian hornet Watch app or the online form, see the following link: https://www.nationalbeeunit.com/diseases-and-pests/asian-hornet/so-you-think-youve-seen-an-asian-hornet/

The National Bee Unit (NBU) is writing to all beekeepers to request that you monitor for Asian hornets in all areas.
To date this year, 66 nests have been located and destroyed in 50 locations, across 10 counties (Devon, Dorset, East Sussex, East Riding of Yorkshire, Essex, Greater London, Hampshire, Kent, North Yorkshire and Surrey). The known distribution highlights that no area can be complacent regarding the threat of Asian hornet incursion.

The National Bee Unit is pleased to launch the 2022 National Hive Count today.
We would like to ask all beekeepers to login to BeeBase and make a note of the total number of colonies you will be taking into the winter as of 1st November 2022. This task is quick and simple, just login and fill in the short form. Even if you have no overwintering colonies this season it is still important to update your BeeBase record to reflect that. This survey will run until 31st December 2022.

Hyd yn oed os nad oes gennych gychod byw yn mynd mewn i’r Gaeaf y tymor hwn mae'n dal yn bwysig diweddaru eich cofnod BeeBase i adlewyrchu hynny. Bydd yr arolwg yn para tan 31 Rhagfyr 2022.
