Join Us for an Interactive Night Walk to Support Survivors of Domestic Abuse

York, UK β€” 13th August 2024 β€” One in Four Walk is thrilled to announce the launch of its first-ever "Starlight Stroll," an interactive night walk through the historic streets of York, aimed at raising funds and awareness for domestic abuse survivors. The event will take place on Thursday 10th October 2024, starting at 6:00 PM from York St John University.

Participants will embark on an engaging 4-kilometre journey guided by volunteers, passing iconic York landmarks such as the Red Tower, the City Walls and ending at York Minster. Along the route, walkers will experience a series of interactive installations and performances, including live poetry, storytelling, and performance, each designed to highlight hidden signs of abuse but to also inspire hope, resilience, and conversation.

"We wanted to create an event that not only highlights the strength and courage of those affected by domestic abuse but shines light on smaller signs of abuse that often go unnoticed," said Emma Rollason-Taylor, Founder of One in Four York. "The Starlight Stroll is a unique way to show our support and raise essential funds to help survivors rebuild their lives as well as educate and battle stigma."

Registration for the Starlight Stroll is now open. Participants can sign up individually or as teams, with a registration fee of Β£10 per person, which includes a commemorative t-shirt and props for the performances. All proceeds from the event will directly support Kyra Women's Project programs and activities, including counselling, group support and legal advocacy for survivors of domestic abuse.

In addition to the walk, there will be a post-event gathering at York Minster, featuring a 2-person performance from Soundproof Box about coercive control. Local businesses and organizations are encouraged to get involved through sponsorships or by donating refreshments and services along the route. Volunteers are also encouraged to share their stories through the One In Four social media platforms. Stories can remain anonymous and will be shared by actors in creative ways, highlighting the smaller signs of abuse that can escalate.

"Domestic abuse affects people from all walks of life, and it is crucial that we come together as a community to support those in need," said Rollason-Taylor. "We invite everyone to join us for a night of reflection, education, and hope."

To register for the Starlight Stroll, share your story, or to learn more about sponsorship opportunities, please visit www.oneinfour.co.uk or contact Harriet Stainton at [email protected].

At our next Wellbeing Wednesday, Renni will be running Your Menopause session.

During our Menopause session we will talk about possible symptoms we may experience (yes, some unusual ones too), about the support available, about HRT but also about the many positives menopause gives us. We will learn some useful breathing techniques to feel grounded and more relaxed. Nobody has to share any information if they prefer to stay silent, this is a safe and totally non-judgemental space. It is also a space to just let go and to realise you are not on your own in this! I will bring books and other materials with me for you to have a look at.

🌟 It's Day 5 of Volunteer Week! 🌟

At Kyra, we believe in the power of community and the importance of having fun while making a difference. Today, we’re shining a spotlight on the fun activities our dedicated volunteers get to be part of.

This has included craft & wellbeing workshops, bike rides and stain-glass window workshops. At Kyra, we are always looking for new and exciting activities to introduce throughout the year to keep our community engaged and inspired.

Volunteering with Kyra is more than just lending a hand; it’s about making meaningful changes in the lives of women. Our activities are designed to be enjoyable, but they also play a crucial role in supporting and empowering our community.

🌟 Celebrating Volunteers Week at Kyra! 🌟

It's day 3 of Volunteers Week and today we celebrate Carol who runs Kyra voices.

Carol's passion for music and her warm, welcoming spirit have made the singing group a cherished part of Kyra.

Each session she leads is not just about hitting the right notes but about creating a safe, supportive space where women can express themselves freely and confidently. Her ability to uplift and empower through the power of song is truly inspiring, and it reflects the core mission of Kyra: to help women make positive changes in their lives.

Carol, thank you for your dedication and for filling our community with music, joy, and strength. You embody the spirit of Kyra, and we are so grateful for your continued support.
