【Artist Focus: Jonas Cho x Daniel Chu】兩位出色並擁有獨特風格的爵士樂手

曹啟晉Jonas是一位22歲的香港薩克斯風手、編曲家和作曲家。Jonas 於2024畢業於伯克利音樂學院，主修爵士演奏和電影配樂雙學位，並於畢業後活躍在香港表演。 他也曾到不同國家巡演，例如林肯爵士樂上海中心、韓國Club Evans、Boogie Woogie、Diva Janus、新加坡Blu Jaz等地演出，與世界各地的音樂家合作。

在美國求學期間，Jonas積極參與不同學生主導以及伯克利主導的大型製作，並曾於波士頓Berklee Performance Center、MGM Music Hall、House of Blues 等大型場地表演。 Jonas於伯克利師隨 Sarpay Özçağatay、Godwin Louis、Edmar Colón 和 George Garzone, 並於2022年獲得伯克利木管系授予的Andy McGhee獎學金。

作為2023年意大利錫耶納國際夏季爵士工作坊的參與者，Jonas得到與Miguel Zenon、Walter Smith III、David Binney和Will Vinson等大師合作的機會，並與Aaron Parks、Gilad Hekselman、Michael Mayo和Reinier Baas一起同台演出。

Jonas Cho is a 22-year-old Hong Kong saxophonist, arranger, and composer. Graduated from Berklee College of Music with a dual major in Performance and Film Scoring, Jonas actively performs in Hong Kong as a versatile musician who can play and write in a wide array of styles. He has also toured different countries and played at venues such as Jazz at Lincoln Center Shanghai, Club Evans, Boogie Woogie, Diva Janus etc. in South Korea, Blu Jaz in Singapore, collaborating with musicians all over the world.

During his studies at Berklee, Jonas actively participated in both student-led and large-scale productions in venues in Boston such as Berklee Performance Center, MGM Music Hall and House of Blues, etc. Under the mentor of Sarpay Özçağatay, Godwin Louis, Edmar Colón and George Garzone, he was awarded the Andy McGhee Endowed Scholarship by the Berklee Woodwind Department in 2022.

As a participant of the Sienna Jazz International Summer Workshop 2023, Jonas also had the chance to work with masters like Miguel Zenon, Walter Smith III, David Binney, and Will Vinson, and performed alongside Aaron Parks, Gilad Hekselman, Michael Mayo, and Reinier Baas.

This coming Saturday (28/9), he will be partnering with the exciting pianist Daniel Chu, to provide a very special night of music for everyone!

【Singer Songwriter: Gwenji】城市需要的一把誠實堅韌的聲音

Gwenji是一位獨立民謠唱作歌手，以獨特氣音唱腔，配合流麗而富節奏感的結他，真摯地唱出自身故事。

她的作品 、、等情緒抒發分明俐落而有格局。繼2023年初為Numcha香港專場擔任嘉賓後，六月再受邀參加巴塞羅那Primavera Sound festival；並於同年10月在亞洲博覽館舉行的Tone Music Festival 演出。

她的第一張專輯即將2024年底面世， 是這城市需要的一把誠實堅韌的聲音。

【Future Icons: William Chan Quartet】細膩動人的爵士結他手

Will Chan — 本地新晉爵士結他手。演奏風格著重樸實而富有情感的表達，總是享受把即興演奏的刺激和未知轉化為與隊友之間的互動，生成「一期一會」的旋律對話。

Will Chan 亦編寫有多首原創爵士作品，風格受到古典音樂所影響，偏愛比較melodic 的ballad，並希望透過作品傳達真摯純粹的情感，掀起每道微小的觸動。

其首支正式發佈的原創單曲 - Same Ride Next Life 已剛於各大平台上架。Will 現時熱衷尋找更多的現場演奏機會，期待與更多聽眾分享自己的故事和喜歡的jazz standard 。

Will Chan - an emerging local jazz guitarist. He focuses on genuine expression, always enjoys transforming the excitement and unpredictability of improvisation into interactions with his bandmates, creating music dialogues for every irreplaceable encounter. 

Will Chan has also written a number of original jazz works. Although influenced by classical background, melodic ballad is often his staple. Through his works he hopes to convey delicate yet sincere emotions, inducing close-to-life resonance with the listeners.

His first officially released original single - Same Ride Next Life has just come out on major streaming platforms. Will is currently eager for more performance opportunities and looking forward to sharing his stories and favourite jazz standards with more audiences.

【文化沙龍：廖偉棠 - 詩和小說的流離】

詩誕生於流動的氣息中，一個詩人穿過現實與心靈的流離失所，他已經不再在乎自己的流離，反而更在乎怎樣把這首流離之歌唱得更好。越是跳躍的詩句，越能承擔起主題的沉重。小說亦如是，若即若離地追隨著。

旅居海外的廖偉棠最近「回歸」香港，現身說法和大家分享他關於流離和留下的詩《劫後書》和小說《末日練習》。

【Artist Focus: Brian Cheung Trio - Tribute to Kenny Garrett】色士風新聲音向傳奇樂手致敬！

張氏為香港爵士色士風手，自10歲起學習古典音樂，直至在悉尼Australian Institute of Music 就讀大學時期開始接觸爵士樂。

於2019年畢業後，張氏回流香港工作仍繼續於不同演奏廳和 爵士場所如荃灣大會堂，香港中文大學，LauBak Livehouse，Lost Star Livehouse， Wontonmeen，Visage One等演出，並參與不同爵士樂活動，包括自由爵士音樂節、香港青年 爵士樂團、Ensemble Transience、線上爵士音樂會等。

張氏現時和其他本地爵士樂手創立爵士普及計劃 FountainDeChopin，曾受南華早報，明報和 有線電視邀請訪問。

張氏同時積極參與各類音樂推廣和教育工作，如在十八區有藝，香港青年 爵士樂團，荃灣有爵樂—‘爵士日日彈’擔任導師，亦為學校和機構舉辦音樂工作坊和講座。

今個星期六（21/9），他將會聯同低音提琴手Nelson Fung以及鼓手Dean Li，向八十年代開始鋒芒畢露的傳奇色士風手Kenny Garrett 致敬！

Brian Cheung, a Hong Kong jazz saxophonist, first started his classical saxophone training at the age of 10. He grew his interest towards jazz when he was studying in Australian Institute of Music in Sydney.

After his university graduation in 2019, he returned to Hong Kong to build his music career. Brian continued his jazz pursuit by performing in various concert hall and jazz occasions, including in Tsuen Wan Town Hall, CUHK, LauBak Livehouse, Lost Star Livehouse, Wontonmeen, Visage One, etc.

Brian had also been participating in diverse jazz events like Freespace Jazz Festival, Hong Kong Youth jazz Collective, Ensemble Transience, online jazz festival 2021, etc.

Brian is now a co-founder of a jazz group called FountainDeChopin, aiming to promote local jazz scene which interviewed by SCMP, Ming Pao and CableTV.

Meanwhile, he is also active in music-related education work, such as launching school workshops and coaching in Hong Kong Youth jazz Collective, Neighbourhood in jazz-”Day Day Jazzy” and 18d. Art programme.

This Saturday (21/9), he will be teaming up with Nelson Fung on double bass and Dean Li on drums, to perform two sets of music paying tribute to the legendary saxophonist Kenny Garrett!

【Listening Session: Chet Baker Sings (hosted by Bowen Li 】最易入口嘅爵士大碟？

Chet Baker，早期擁有一把少少沙啞嘅聲音，加上俊俏嘅臉龐，以及冷酷的演唱手法（少少似林家謙🤣🤣🤣），成功吸引大批粉絲。

今次將會同大家一齊聽佢最經典嘅大碟《Chet Baker Sings》。呢隻1954年推出咗專輯，收錄咗多首耳熟能詳嘅歌曲，包括《My Funny Valentine》，《Like Someone In Love》等。

Kind of Brew 系列：Listening Session，將會使用Hi-Fi System（Naim）配上八十年代出產的黑膠機Denon DP-57M以及的喇叭Technics SB-E100，播放經典爵士專輯。

每次將會邀請一名本地爵士樂手來為大家介紹專輯。內容包括專輯的背景資料，故事，樂手，曲風介紹等。

【Artist Focus: Alex Wood Trio - Cannonball Adderley Reimagined】英國色士風手向爵士傳奇致敬！

Alex 是一位來自英國的傑出且多次獲獎的色士風演奏家、作曲家和編曲家。

作為表演者，他與多位格林美得獎者合作過，包括Jamie Cullum and Charlotte Church。Alex在歐洲多次巡演，並在巴西、美國、香港、新加坡、馬來西亞、以色列和俄羅斯演出。他的首張專輯由Stoney Lane Records發行。

作為編曲家，他曾與格林美獎得Vince Mendoza, Lalah Hathaway 以及Metropole Orkest (Holland)合作。

Alex 在皇家伯明翰音樂學院（英國）擔任教職，並在世界各地的多所學校和大學擔任客座藝術家和講師。

2013年，Alex搬到紐約，並獲得了曼哈頓音樂學院爵士音樂碩士項目學習的獎學金。

9月14日（星期六），他將帶領他的三重奏，Nelson Fung （低音大提琴）與Samuel Chan （爵士鼓），向傳奇色士風手Cannonball Adderley 致敬。

Alex Woods is an accomplished and multi award winning saxophonist, composer and arranger from the United Kingdom.

As a performer, he has collaborated with multiple Grammy award winning artists such as Jamie Cullum and Charlotte Church. Alex has toured extensively throughout Europe and has performed in some of the world’s top venues and festivals in Brazil, the USA, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Israel and Russia. His debut album was signed by Stoney Lane Records.

As an arranger, he has worked on projects with Grammy award winning Vince Mendoza, Lalah Hathaway and the Metropole Orkest (Holland).

Alex holds a teaching position at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (UK) and has been a guest artist and clinician at a variety of schools and universities around the world.

In 2013, Alex moved to New York where he was offered a scholarship to study at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music masters of music jazz program.

Coming Saturday, 14/9, he will be bring his trio featuring Nelson Fung on bass and Samuel Chan on drums, to pay tribute to the legendary saxophonist Cannonball Adderley.

除教學外，大師兄亦十分貪玩，為港台節目《哲學有偈傾》的主持人之一。亦定期在不同媒體上發表以普羅大眾為對象、以哲學的角度探討藝術、文學和教育的文章。

上年亦出版書籍《尋常與作樂——哲學與文藝的25則思考》，勁好睇，貼地得嚟有啟發性！

【Singer Songwriter: TAOTAO】以愛之名創作音樂 R&B、Soul和Electro-pop 的唱作人

The Black Eye Peas 以 《Where is the love? 》向紛亂的世界提出了一個值得我們思考的問題，同樣啟發了TAOTAO以愛之名創作音樂，為身處高壓城市和為生活奔波的人，送上一絲暖意和輕鬆的節奏。

此刻我們最需要的是一個隔空、聯繫著世界各地的跳舞派對和集體擁抱(Group Hug)，因此TAOTAO唱作出一首首帶著能量的歌曲。

集作曲、作詞和樂隊主音於一身的TAOTAO曾赴美國洛杉磯 Musicians Institute進修聲樂及音樂製作系，在歐美音樂的薰陶下，創作的曲風多以R&B、Soul和Electro-pop為主。
首次公演在洛杉磯的Hollywood Live-house便結集了一支12人樂團。

回港後，在搶耳音樂節贏得搶耳大賞和觀眾獎。曾在多個場地和大型音樂節演唱，包括亞洲國際博覽館、西九竹翠公園 及 麥花臣場館。曾在《林家謙狂熱祭》 當表演嘉賓，在《埋班作樂》為衛蘭作曲和當和音演出，也為萬寧、YUU廣告歌錄音。

TAOTAO將會在9月推出首張專輯也以初衷《Where is the love? 》為題，創作了六首歌曲紀錄一段關係由開始到終結，途中會遇到的六個難過時刻，包括：暗戀的失落、曖昧的折磨、磨時的憤怒、失戀的傷痛、接受失去時的苦澀和重新出發的害怕，以聲音陪伴大家走過這些無法避免、難以言喻的情感。

同時於八、九月舉行一連六次，以不同感情階段為題的演出，在Kind of Brew的演出將會是第三站 - 憤怒。

【Listening Session: Petrichor - Alan Kwan】本地結他手Alan 分享返自己嘅黑膠大碟

《Petrichor》嘅CD同streaming於2022年推出，當中feature 樂手包括Dayna Stephens, Linda May Oh, Fabian Almazan, Johnathan Blake。而黑膠版本就於今年推出。

Petrichor呢個字意指一個乾旱多年的地方，突然落一場大雨後，雨水會和泥土產生化學作用，產生一種獨特的香味。

當晚Alan會分享當中創作嘅過程，以及錄音嘅點滴。現場亦可以購買《Petrichor》黑膠。

【Artist Focus: Rickard Malmsten x Bowen Li】獲獎無數的瑞典爵士樂手

來自瑞典的爵士作曲家及貝斯手Rickard Malmsten曾獲獎無數，足跡遍及五大洲。

他是Vösu爵士音樂節的創辦人，並於2021年獲得愛沙尼亞頒發的榮譽獎，以表彰他對該國音樂界的重大貢獻。2024年，他也因為創作了家鄉Landskrona的官方歌曲而獲頒獎項。

瑞卡德曾與Roy Hargrove, Scott Henderson, Uri Caine, Bob Moses, Nils Landgren, Cyrus Chestnut, Rigmor Gustavsson, David Kikoski, P*e Wee Ellis, Magnus Lindgren, Dennis Chambers及Randy Brecker等著名藝術家巡演和表演。

The award-winning Swedish bassist Rickard Malmsten has worked as a composer and musician on five continents.

He is the founder of the Vösu Jazz Festival and, in 2021, received an honorary award from Estonia for his significant contributions to the country’s music scene. In 2024, he was also honored with a prize from his hometown of Landskrona for composing the city’s official anthem.

Rickard has toured and performed with esteemed artists such as Roy Hargrove, Scott Henderson, Uri Caine, Bob Moses, Nils Landgren, Cyrus Chestnut, Rigmor Gustavsson, David Kikoski, P*e Wee Ellis, Magnus Lindgren, Dennis Chambers, and Randy Brecker.

7th Sep, he will be playing with jazz pianist Bowen Li, showcasing a lot of his original music.

【Future Icons: Sing Pun x Michael Chan】荷蘭流學的爵士結他手

Sing Pun 香港結他手，2019年畢業於香港教育大學，在大學時期開始接觸爵士樂。2021-23年赴荷蘭Prince Claus Conservatorium 修讀，主修爵士結他，現暫時休學回港及活躍於本地爵士樂界。

Sing現為爵士結他手，有自己的爵士三重奏Sing Pun Trio，亦為Hot Club de Hong Kong香港吉卜賽爵士樂團成員。

Sing Pun is a Hong Kong guitarist, who graduated from the EdUHK in 2019. He started to get into jazz in college. From 2021 to 2023, he studied at the Prince Claus Conservatorium in the Netherlands, majoring in jazz guitar.

Now he is taking a break from school and returning to Hong Kong and is active in the local jazz scene. Sing is currently a jazz guitarist, has his own jazz trio Sing Pun Trio, and is also a member of the Hot Club de Hong Kong Gypsy Jazz Band.

【Artist Focus: Ram Cheung Trio】Authentic Blues Musician collaborating with jazz musicians

Ram Cheung在香港藍調音樂圈活躍超過十年,他全心全意投入藍調音樂,堅持保留真正傳統藍調的風格。

他也曾與眾多知名藍調和爵士音樂家攜手演出,包括Henry Chung, Eugene Pao, Tommy Chung, Sybil Thomas, Tsang Tak Hong and Alan Kwan. 

Ram在香港、台灣和中國大陸的各式俱樂部、表演場地和音樂節都有演出。其中包括: Clockenflap、Grassfest、慘島藍調音樂節、杭州國際爵士音樂節、台北舉辦的「香港 x 大阪 x 台北新年夜藍調節」,以及西九自由空間爵士音樂節(2020 和 2021年)。

2022年11月,Ram與他的樂隊「Shake That Thing」發行了單曲「What The World‘s Gonna Do」,邀請了知名香港吉他大師Eugene Pao參與演出。

此後在2022年12月,他們推出了首張完整專輯「19-22 Blues」,在Spotify、iTunes、YouTube Music等串流平台發行。

31/8，他將會聯同爵士樂手Nelson Fung 與Bowen Li演奏多首藍調歌曲。

Having set his foot on the Hong Kong blues scene for over a decade, Ram Cheung devotes his time and energy to blues music with his firm commitment to upholding authentic, traditional blues style.

He also enjoyed performing with numerous celebrated blues and jazz musicians, including Henry Chung, Eugene Pao, Tommy Chung, Sybil Thomas, Tsang Tak Hong and Alan Kwan. 

Ram has performed in different clubs, venues and festivals in Hong Kong, Taiwan and Mainland China. Some notable performances includes Clockenflap, Grassfest, The Gloomy Island Blues Festival, Jazz On The Lake - Hangzhou International Jazz Festival, Hong Kong x Osaka x Taipei Blues Exchange New Year’s Eve Party in Taipei, Freespace Jazz Fest (2020 & 2021).

In November of 2022, Ram with his band Shake That Thing released a single “What The World’s Gonna Do” featuring one of the most celebrated Hong Kong guitar icon Eugene Pao on  guitar.

Then in December of 2022, a full album “19-22 Blues” has launched on streaming platforms like Spotify, iTunes, YouTube Music, etc.

On the 31/8, he will be performing a series of blues songs with local jazz musicians Nelson Fung & Bowen Li.

【Artist Focus: Patrick Lui Trio】 Award-winning pianist visiting KOB

Patrick Lui is an award-winning pianist, composer, arranger, and producer. He has won the Marvin Hamlisch International Music Award (Jazz Composition), the Taichung Jazz Festival Piano Competition, and was a semi-finalist at the Bucharest International Jazz Competition; his jazz orchestra piece Mirror Dance was the first jazz composition nominated for ‘Best Serious Composition’ at the CASH Golden Sail Music Awards.

An internationally active jazz pianist, Patrick has appeared in festivals including JENerations Jazz Festival (USA), EUROPAfest, Takatsuki Jazz Street Jazz Festival, Kanazawa Street Jazz Festival, Taichung Jazz Festival, Clockenflap, Freespace Jazz Festival, and Hong Kong Jazz Marathon among others.

He has performed his own jazz compositions alongside Alex Sipiagin, Will Vinson, Kyoto Composers Jazz Orchestra, and Taipei Jazz Orchestra.

Patrick’s debut big band album Sonder was released in 2020. The album was recorded in New York City at the renowned Systems Two Recording Studio with all New York jazz musicians, featuring Alex Sipiagin. The album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by two-time Grammy award winner Mike Marciano, and distributed by Sony music.

雷柏熹身兼鋼琴手、作曲家、編曲家、監製，並屢獲殊榮。自 Berklee College of Music 畢業後，雷柏熹曾贏得馬文漢立許國際音樂大獎（爵士作曲）、台中爵士音樂節鋼琴比賽冠軍，並於布加勒斯特國際爵士樂比賽中進入準決賽；他的爵士大樂團作品《Mirror Dance》為首部獲提名香港作曲家及作詞家協會（CASH）金帆音樂獎最佳正統音樂獎的爵士樂曲。

雷柏熹活躍於世界各地，曾出席EUROPAfest、美國 JENerations 爵士音樂節、台中爵士音樂節、日本的高槻爵士音樂節、金沢爵士音樂節、Clockenflap、自由爵士音樂節、及香港爵士馬拉松等。

雷柏熹曾與Alex Sipiain、Will Vinson、京都作曲家爵士大樂團、台北爵士大樂團等合作，演出其原創作品；

雷柏熹的爵士大樂團專輯《Sonder》於2020年發表。專輯於紐約著名錄音室 Systems Two Recording Studio 灌錄，團員全為紐約爵士樂手，更邀得小號大師 Alex Sipiagin 作客席演奏。專輯的錄音、混音及母帶後期製作由兩屆格林美獎得主 Mike Marciano 包辦，並由 Sony Music 發行。

Giant Steps，被譽為最具挑戰性的爵士樂曲。究竟它的難度在哪裡呢？John Coltrane 背後的創作作理念又是什麼呢？

Kind of Brew 系列：Listening Session，將會使用Hi-Fi System（Naim）配上古董黑膠機（Lenco L75）播放經典爵士專輯。

每次將會邀請一名本地爵士樂手來為大家介紹專輯。內容包括專輯的背景資料，故事，樂手，曲風介紹等。

今次作分享的是本地爵士鋼手Bowen Li，到時候有需要亦會彈奏作示範。

Giant Steps, known as the most challenging jazz tune ever written. Why is it so challenging to musicians? And what is John Coltrane thinking behind while writing this tune?

The “Kind of Brew” series: Listening Session, will use a Hi-Fi System (Naim) paired with a vintage turntable (Lenco L75) to play classic jazz albums.

Each session will invite a local jazz musician to introduce the album. The content will include background information, stories, musicians, and introductions to the musical styles.

This time, the sharing will be done by local jazz pianist Bowen Li (also one of the owners), who will also perform demonstrations if needed.

畢業香港中文大學音樂系，啟希獲香港賽馬會慈善信託基金獎學金全額資助，負笈倫敦市政廳音樂及戲劇學院修讀藝術家碩士課程。畢業後再獲全額獎學金在倫敦皇家音樂學院攻讀藝術家文憑。在學期間曾擔任皇家音樂學院樂團大提琴首席。
 
啟希為勛菲爾德國際弦樂比賽, 意大利特雷維索國際音樂比賽等比賽獲獎者；也常被邀請至世界各地作獨奏和室樂演出。
 
他也熱衷於樂團演奏，參演過的樂團包括倫敦交響樂團，香港小交響樂團等；也曾在Sir Simon Rattle, Lorin Mazzel, Bernard Haitink, Vladimir Jurowski等傳奇名家的棒下演出。
 
黃歷琛 鋼琴伴奏
 
黃歷琛畢業於美國羅切斯特大學伊士曼音樂學院及香港中文大學音樂系，分別取得音樂碩士(鋼琴伴奏及室內樂) 及文學士(一級榮譽)學位。

黃歷琛現為香港多個合唱團丶香港歌劇院丶非凡美樂之排練伴奏及香港大學音樂系兼職助教。

【Singer Songwriter: Jiawen & Hilarie】

Vocalist, harpist, artist, Jiawen is a current sophmore at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, pursuing her bachelor‘s degree in Music Therapy. As a therapist-in-the-making, she fully believes in the heartwarming wonders music can bring, and the healing power lyrics can imprint. Her works cover a variety of genres, ranging from acoustic pop to R&B. She wishes that her works as an amateur songwriter will be able to spark resonance amongst her audience.

Hilarie Chong is a singer songwriter and producer currently studying at the Berklee College of Music, majoring in Independent Recording and Production. With a strong foundation in violin, she ventured into singing, songwriting and producing in high school, turning a hobby into a passion. Her music, primarily in the pop genre, focuses on relatability, aiming to connect with her audience on a deeper level. This Sunday, Hilarie will be showcasing original works from her high school years and her first year at Berklee.

歌唱者，豎琴家，藝術家。Jiawen 現正就讀美國伯克利音樂學院的音樂治療學士。作為一位未來的音樂治療師，Jiawen深切感受到音樂能帶來的溫馨，以及歌詞能給予的力量。Jiawen熱於自我挑戰，常嘗試以不同的音樂作風編作歌曲，歌曲風格包括流行樂、R&B 等。初次公開表演自作曲目的她，希望能夠透過她的作品引起觀眾的共鳴，使聽眾得到一絲慰籍。

莊海澄
莊海澄是一位歌手、詞曲作者以及音樂製作人，現正在美國伯克利音樂學院修讀獨立錄製與創作專業學士。作為一名小提琴家，Hilarie於高中期間逐漸擴展自己的音樂領域，開始步入歌唱、歌曲寫作以及錄音製作的範疇，將興趣化為熱愛。Hilarie主要編作流行音樂，並期望能透過她的歌曲引起聽眾的共鳴，從而令她與她的聽眾能達至更深入的連繫。這次表演，Hilarie將會為觀眾帶來她在高中時期至大學一年級時所創作的曲目。
