The symposium "AI-Driven Dynamics: Charting the Course for Translation and Interpreting Certification, Services, and Education" at PolyU, supported by the CATTI Management Center, about AI's impact on translation and interpreting ended with success on 12-13 June.

This event was commenced by Dr. Renia Lopez, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Humanities PolyU, and Jiang Ping, Director of the CATTI Management Center and followed by keynote speeches by top scholars in the field delivered by Professors Youyi Huang, Professor Anthony Pym, and Professor Lynne Bowker.

Over the two-day symposium, 12 speakers covered AI's impact on translation education, talent development, medical interpreting, as well as the use of AI and CAT tools. A guided tour to visit the translation and interpreting facilities and the Speech and Language Sciences Laboratory of CBS was also introduced to the attendees.

【 reaches record high in QS World University Rankings📈】PolyU has reached new heights in the QS Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings 2025🎉, surging eight places from the previous year to 57th this year. ⚡

The University has also achieved highly commendable results in several performance indicators, including the “ ” and “ ”, where it rated 2nd and 3rd in Hong Kong respectively. 【Visit by Secretary for Labour and Welfare to 】A delegation led by Mr. Chris Sun, Secretary for Labour and Welfare, paid a visit to PolyU on Monday. During the visit, PolyU President Prof. Jin-Guang Teng, Executive Vice President Dr. Miranda Lou, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities Prof. Li Ping, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. David Shum, and other faculty members from the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies, shared PolyU’s latest developments in education, research and innovation.

The delegation toured the Speech Therapy Unit and the Speech and Language Sciences Laboratory, where they learned about PolyU's advanced facilities, research initiatives, and educational programmes in relation to . 🤖 隨著生成式人工智能（GenAI）革新了社會互動方式，運用深度學習演算法訓練 GenAI 的 #大型語言模型 亦受到關注。在 #理大人文學院 院長兼冼為堅基金人文與科技講座教授李平教授領導下， #理大 研究團隊將模擬人腦評估句子之連貫性的「 #下一句子預測」（Next Sentence Prediction）納入模型預訓練，並檢驗模型數據與腦活動的相關性。💬 研究發現，如果以人類處理語言的類似方式進行訓練，大型語言模型理解語言的表現就更像人類腦部。🧠

🤖 With generative artificial intelligence ( ) transforming the social interaction landscape in recent years, large language models ( ), which use deep-learning algorithms to train GenAI platforms to process language, have been put in the spotlight. Led by Prof. LI Ping, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Sin Wai Kin Foundation Professor in Humanities and Technology, PolyU’s research team has investigated the next sentence prediction ( ) task, which simulates one central process of discourse-level comprehension in the human brain to evaluate if a pair of sentences is coherent, into model pretraining and examined the correlation between the model’s data and brain activation. 💬 The study found that LLMs perform more like the human brain when being trained in more similar ways as humans process language. 🧠
