There is increasing interest in the role of chiropractic in the care of patients with persistent (>4w) post-concussion symptoms (mild traumatic brain injury or mTBI). Studies indicate that up to 34% to 44% of patients with concussion or mTBI experience symptoms at 3 to 6 months after injury, and between 5% and 20% experience symptoms at 12 months after injury

The outcomes of a systematic review looking into the effectiveness of non-pharmaceutical resulted in recommendations being made for a range of interventions, including graded physical exercise, vestibular rehabilitation and manual treatments of the spine.

The review, published in JAMA Network Open [1], which included 19 randomized controlled trial involving 2007 subjects used established methods to arrive at recommendations for care.

The Danish research team involved researcher and chiropractor Professor Jan Hartvigsen of the University of Southern Denmark and the Chiropractic Knowledge Hub.
