Career Opportunities for senior research management and postdocs in Ireland's first Fraunhofer Project Centre
The Fraunhofer Project Centre for Embedded Bioanalytical Systems at Dublin City University (FPC@DCU) was launched in early 2017 as a joint initiative by Science Foundation Ireland and Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. In collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (FhG-IPT) in Aachen (Germany), FPC@DCU develops customised, microfluidics-based “fit-for-industry” solutions for decentralised bioanalytical testing and handling of biosamples for the benefit of economies and societies. FPC@DCU’s translational research features a broad spectrum of applications, ranging from in-vitro (“Point-of-Care”) diagnostics, (bio-)pharma, life-science research and agrifood as well as monitoring of industrial processes, infrastructures and the environment.
Please contact me if you are interested in a senior-level leadership role in business development, research and organisation of this rapidly emerging, applied research initiative.

FPC@DCU negotiations with the EU budget commissioner and my former boss Günther Öttinger in Dublin. The commissioner was very keen on obliging all EU member states to implement their 3% target on research.
FPC@DCU will be part of the visit of Irish Minister for Education Richard Bruton to Germany for St. Patrick’s week. The directors Jens Ducrée will participate in a reception by the Irish Ambassador to Germany on March 14. At an event at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Photonics (FhG-IAP) in Potsdam on the following day, FPC@DCU will present within its partnership with the Aachen-based Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (FhG-IPT).

Baking Powder Actuated Centrifugo-Pneumatic Valving for Automation of Multi-Step Bioassays We report a new flow control method for centrifugal microfluidic systems; CO2 is released from on-board stored baking powder upon contact with an ancillary liquid. The elevated pressure generated drives the sample into a dead-end pneumatic chamber sealed by a dissolvable film (DF). This liquid incur...
