Miriam McConnon, Wall of safety pins, oil on canvas, 20x20cm, part of our summer group exhibition ‘Pink is my colour’.

Fitzgerald, David Fox, Nickie Hayden, Eoin Mac Lochlainn, Miriam McConnon, Sheila Naughton, Yanny Petters, Kelly Ratchford, Vicky Smith and invited artists Bernadette Doolan, Joe Dunne RHA, Hannah Ní Mhaonaigh and Noël O’Callaghan.

Miriam McConnon presents a wall of pink coloured safety pins. It is the dichotomy of this small object that intrigues her. A safety pin, that even by its name holds the promise to secure, to hold together and to fasten and at the same time it threatens to pierce your skin when opened.

This wall made from this basic domestic object hints at the fragility of domestic security amidst devastating issues such as the housing crisis, war and the global refugee crisis which have led to the amplification of polarized political views across Europe.

The Olivier Cornet Gallery is open 11am to 6pm today Friday 5 July 2024. We are closed tomorrow Saturday but will be open on Sunday (12 noon to 5pm).

2024 Bloomsday breakfast in Belvedere House on Sunday, 16th of June at 8.00 am.
Visitors will have a unique opportunity to dine in the very rooms where Joyce studied from 1893 to 1898 in Belvedere College.
Immerse yourself in the heart of Joycean Dublin, around the corner from where Leopold and Molly Bloom had their home at 7 Eccles Streets and close to where Joyce lived until he emigrated with Nora Barnacle in 1904.

- 12 noon free concert at Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane:

When
9 June, 2024 - 31 July, 2024
Olivier Cornet Gallery

Pink is my colour is a group show featuring work by artists invited by Olivier Cornet or artists his gallery represents or works with on a regular basis: Hugh Cummins, David Fox, Kelly Ratchford, Mary A. Fitzgerald, Nickie Hayden, Eoin Mac Lochlainn, Yanny Petters, Sheila Naughton, Bernadette Doolan and Hannah Ní Mhaonaigh to name a few. Beyond the usual cliches — or their unmasking — about gender, states of mind and people’s general attitudes to life, this show invites the viewer to look at how artists use the colour pink in their work, a colour that is quite rare in nature except in flowers. This is an exhibition that also purports to outline the power of words and how they can influence the way we look at things, even when taking a closer — or seemingly carefree — look at artworks. Just like James Joyce’s Ulysses and its colourful characters, this exhibition promises to bring out a rich array of bold and wonderful tones.

We asked milliner John F Shevlin if we could get a customized version of his famous Bloomsday hat for inclusion in our group show ‘Pink is my Colour’ opening this Sunday.

The show is dedicated to the memory of Dr Flicka Small, a Joycean and friend of the gallery, whose work on the semiotics of food in Ulysses was the inspiration of our 2019 Bloomsday show Olives, Oysters and Oranges.

John has just brought his wonderful creation explaining that this was a present in memory of Flicka whom he also knew well.

I think Flicka would have approved of the hat and its position in the show as a welcome to all our visitors during the Bloomsday Festival and beyond.

Thank you John. Olivier
