This shouldn’t really need clarifying, but here we go.

You know those monumental ballbags who film themselves wandering grocery stores, pointing to ingredients they cannot pronounce and yelling about how everything is “TOXIC”?

“Kale is bullsh*t”
“Almond milk is toxic”
“THIS FOOD IS KILLING YOU!”

Well, someone commented on one of my video responses.

“They are just trying to promote nutritious diets”.

No, they aren’t.

Because NOBODY actually takes issue with the idea of promoting nutritious diets.

The reason these grocery store videos are getting so much attention (and backlash) is because they AREN’T promoting nutritious diets, but often promoting unnecessary food fear.

Yes, I am super duper happy for us to talk about foods you should eat more of, and foods you should eat less of, and reasons why.

But if people genuinely cared about your health, they wouldn’t make *unnecessarily* scary claims.

Because making people unnecessarily scared of anything is not actually helpful, you know?

Pass it on.

My rhubarb was very late ripening this year, there wasn't much sun.
I've chopped it and stored some in the freezer for the days when I fancy a gluten free crumble. I also stewed some with honey and vanilla, I usually add this to full fat yogurt, but it's good with ice cream too.
Did you know that rhubarb is actually a vegetable not a fruit? And it has some really great health benefits:
• It's loaded with antioxidants
• It's good for digestion
• High in Vitamin K, so it is good for bone health
• Has antiviral properties to help regulate inflammation

• red onion
• yellow pepper
• cherry tomatoes
• celery
• goats cheese
• mayo
• red pesto
• 1 tbsp flax seeds
• gluten free pasta
• salt & pepper

Isn't this really cool? Not only can you manage your health with the foods you eat, but HOW you eat them has an impact too

This is one of the reasons processed foods are harmful to your health. They don't clearly label what it does to your immune system so you can make an informed choice 😡

Always read labels on packaged foods. This way, you’ll know not only if there is food coloring but also if there are other problematic items, such as gluten-based ingredients, corn, or soy.

Tonight's dinner for 1 is garlic, potatoes, green beans, mushrooms and salmon. The salmon will take about 10 minutes in the airfryer, the vegetables will take about 10 minutes to cook in the pan with olive oil.
Quick, easy, lazy, tasty, healthy

The BioNutri Wednesday webinar this week is focusing on men's health and some of the challenges that men face at different stages of life.
A staggering statistic is that 100,000 men every year in the UK, are dying from undiagnosed diseases, mostly due to not talking about their health or aren't willing to do anything about it.
This needs to change

In my practice I use food data management software called Nutritics and they have an app called Libro which I've never used before and I've been playing around with it.

Nutritics and Libro link together so that the practitioner and client can share information, recipes, food logs and activities.

I'm not a fan of counting calories and only do so when I feel it's necessary so I am surprised at my calorie intake for the day, I thought it would have been higher. Granted, I haven't had my dinner or gone for a walk yet, but I will!

I don't think that detailed food logs like this are necessary for everyone but they can be very useful for someone to be mindful of their food intake, to stay on track with a particular meal plan, or for athletes keeping track of calories and macronutrients.

Lunch is a use up what's in the fridge omelette. This one has scallions, garlic, mushrooms, 2 large eggs, ham, chorizo, tomatoes and cheese. Lots of protein, healthy carbs and fibre from the veg and took about 10 minutes to cook 😋

I attended the Network Ireland Kildare branch Business woman of the year awards ceremony last night.
It was a lovely evening and a great chance to meet new people and chat to some of the contestants and winners.
They are a very inspiring group of women to spend an evening with and I'm looking forward to learning more from them in the future.
Congratulations ladies 🎉👏

I attended a seminar yesterday by Pure Encapsulations on Nutritional Dermatology. Dermatologists normally treat skin conditions with topical treatments, antibiotics and retinoid drugs and don't consider the role of food as medicine at all. It's great to have all this information in my Nutritional Therapist toolkit.

A few weeks ago I made some pickled beetroot and it's finally ready and tastes delicious. I was expecting the flavour to be very strong but it's actually quite mild.

So why bother making pickled beetroot? Why not just buy the jar from the supermarket?

The shop bought version (which I've always liked) is preserved with vinegar and sugar, but doesn't allow for fermentation to take place.

This homemade one is now a lovely, healthy probiotic food. It can be added to salads but I had some as a snack while I was cooking dinner. I always get a dose of the munchies when I'm cooking and this is a better option than crisps.

Have you ever made your own fermented food?
Let me know in the comments 😊

It's that time of the day again, breakfast time.
Quiet house, snoozing dogs and food that I love.
I changed it up a little today. Parma ham, asparagus, mushrooms with a poached egg on top, full fat yoghurt and green tea.
This is my favourite me time 😁
What foods or meals do you really look forward to?

Meal prepping lunch for work today & tomorrow. I'm not working my usual hours this week so it's lunch on the go.
This is a Mediterranean Bean Salad. I had to substitute a couple of things. I had no cannellini beans so I used quinoa instead, I left out the artichokes and added some flaked almonds.
I'm re-using my optibac probiotic pot for olive oil and balsamic dressing
