Hi All,
Often when a person comes to my clinic for a treatment they want to learn about what else acupuncture can be used for. This gave me the idea to write a series of posts that highlight issues that people frequently seek help with through Acupuncture.

Let’s start with headaches.
Headaches are no fun! They can make you feel miserable for a few hours or up to a few days, and can really interfere with the flow of your life.
There are different types of Headaches such as sinus headaches, tension headaches and migraines. As well, there are different triggers which can bring on a headache of these types such as stress, lack of sleep, muscle tension, dehydration, food sensitivities, and even weather changes. Pain medicines can treat a headache, but not always, and if you take them too often you can develop side effects.

So where does acupuncture come in? It can help get rid of an active headache or help treat chronic recurring headaches. Acupuncture supports and strengthens the circulation of qi (energy) and blood, through the whole body and in particular to the area that is experiencing pain. This in turns breaks stagnation which manifests as pain, calms the mind and let’s the body regain balance.

A recent patient story:
“Yael” came to me suffering from chronic migraines that occurred weekly and lasted for at least two days. With once week acupuncture treatments, over ten weeks, we reduced the frequency and the intensity of her headaches. She was able to be more active and in less pain.

This morning I am in beautiful Neve Ilan where I am an assistant at קצה המחט, the clinic of Shaun Goodman, a more than excellent acupuncturist and wonderful teacher. Lifelong learning is the name of the game!

Its the best feeling to be able to help someone in pain. This week I had a patient in a very difficult situation, in labor with an epidural and pitocin who developed a bad migraine to boot. She had been given intravenous pain meds, and they weren’t working. With pain, nausea and light sensitivity this woman was not happy. I did an acupuncture treatment for her for the migraine and within 10 minutes the pain started lessening, After 20 minutes, she could open her eyes without pain and was smiling! Score one for the acupuncture!

I saw this quote posted up on a wall the other day and was grateful for the reminder, that sometimes little changes can make big changes. That a small change in how we think or behave can set off a chain reaction for the good! 🌸
