There is drastic increase in cases of Type -2 Diabetes in India and worldwide and it has already reached to an epidemic proportions . So, Diabetes is considered to be major public health issue.

Obesity , faulty lifestyle and stress being the major contributing factors for this.

On this day, take a pledge of making better & diabetes free tomorrow by taking preventive measures today.
1) Eat a nutritious, fibre rich, balanced diet.

Another feedback from a daughter who has taken diet package for her mom.
Her mom keeps herself super busy in doing daily chores of home, so she forgets to eat her meals on time . So this resulted in weight gain, which started hurting her knee and other associated problems..
Although she used to do yoga and regular walks too, but was not able to shed much weight.

We cannot stop emphasizing on the importance of consulting a before you self experiment on your body based on random internet searches. It will definitely cause more harm than good.

This one is a story of a student who is pursuing her P.Hd from Boston University, US . Being extremely busy in her studies, she hardly has time to cook for herself. But she was very keen on losing weight. So, she was suggested some easy to do, less cooking time recipes by me. She followed them religiously .

Today everyone we know is either taking Vit D or recommending Vit D without soliciting advise from a qualified health care professional.

When we speak to our clients, they tell us they have been taking it on the recommendation of a so called well wisher, family member or neighbor and they have been taking it for more than a year now.

Like with everything else, anything in excess can cause harm to the body.

Vitamin D toxicity, also called hypervitaminosis D, is a rare but a serious condition that occurs when you have excessive amounts of vitamin D in your body.

Vitamin D toxicity is usually caused by taking high doses of vitamin D supplements.

Remember, Vit D toxicity cannot be caused by diet or sun exposure. That is because our body regulates the amount of vitamin D produced by sun exposure, and even fortified foods don't contain large amounts of vitamin D that can cause harm to our body.

The main consequence of vitamin D toxicity is a build up of calcium in the blood (hypercalcemia), which can cause nausea and vomiting, weakness, and frequent urination. Symptoms might progress to vascular calcification, bone pain and kidney problems, such as the formation of calcium stones and high creatinine levels.

Taking 60,000 international units (IU) a day of vitamin D for several months has been shown to cause toxicity.

Vit D supplements incase of deficiency should be taken only with the recommendation of the doctor for a specified time frame. Blood levels should be monitored while you are on Vit D supplements

As always, talk to your doctor before taking any vitamin and mineral supplements . Do not take it at the behest of unqualified people.

Dietary diversity is the need of the hour. Do make sure to include variety of food groups and make sure to widen the variety within each food group as well. For e.g. if we look at pulses - we have so many options like toor dal, moong dal, whole moong, channa dal, rajma, chole, urad dal, masoor dal, whole urad, dry peas. Let's not restrict to one variety of dal. Similar is the case with cereals, fruits, vegetables, dairy and non-veg, fats and oils.

This Republic Day let us get rid of junk and pledge to eat healthy and improve our dietary diversity.

This is that time of the year when most of us are socialising with friends and family due to holidays and festival season. So, we often choose for some eating options which are easy to cook, or take aways or eating out.
Mindful eating plays a great role here. Mindful eating is a concept or a practise which helps you to know what exactly you are eating, is it really required by your body, are you eating the appropriate quantity of food or are you just eating just for the sake of it. That doesn't mean that you can't enjoy eating out, it just means that you have to be conscious enough to judge what is the exact requirement of a particular food for our body.
Practice Mindful eating. Believe me, you will feel so guilt free while eating outside food.

Workout combined with some funtime with my girls.
When we workout, we should try to enjoy it, otherwise it will become a burden on you, and slowly and slowly one starts losing interest in it. Combining workout with some activities or involving kids makes it more interesting and you don't even come to know that you have spent a good amount of time in workout.
More so, in today's time when kids are just sitting and have lot of screentime because of online studies, they really need to breathe some fresh air and do some workout too.
