On this auspicious day, people offer prayers and show gratitude to God. _Haal Khata_ is a festival celebrated by Bengali merchants, shopkeepers, and traders on Poila Boisakh by opening a new ledger. This day holds agricultural significance, which marks the beginning of the harvest season.

This day is celebrated by Bengali people with small gatherings, where they make traditional delicacies & sweets. Cultural programs are organized in various parts of West Bengal where people perform Bengali music, folk dance, Bengali recitations, etc.
