CELEBRATING THE TOILET!

The symbol for this year’s World Toilet Day was ‘the Hummingbird’ – a small bird that solves big problems through continuous actions. This truly describes our One Home One Toilet program through which we have created improved sanitation facilities across 650 slums, for 1.5 lakh individuals, 1 family at a time.

This year we celebrated the humble but mighty toilet by organizing various events as a part of World Toilet Day. Our team conducted an interactive handwashing session and Drawing competition for children, a photography contest for which women posed with their newly built toilets, a toilet decoration competition, and felicitation of participating women.

The competitions created a buzz among the communities and showcased their talents and perspectives on safe sanitation. The events encouraged children to express their creativity and imagination. This will inspire other community members to build household toilets essential for their health and wellbeing.

It has been published as a part of a series named 'Design for Partnerships for Change' by Springer Nature.

Architect Pratima Joshi is the Founder-Executive Director of the NGO Shelter Associates (SA), an NGO that designs and implements interventions in Sanitation and Social Housing for urban slum dwellers. More recently, Pratima and Shelter Associates have partnered with Google to give unique alphanumeric digital addresses (Google Plus codes) so that they can access basic services like clean water, safe sanitation, and even doorstep deliveries.

Started in 2016, WADE ASIA NATIONAL AWARDS is the largest award platform for Women in Architecture, Interior Design, Art, Construction, and Engineering. WADE has been documenting the progression of women architects, interior designers, artists, and engineers since the last 7 years.

Celebrating a HATTRICK of Awards!

Shelter Associates Wins Infosys Foundation's Aarohan Social Innovation Award 2023

The whole team at SA is very happy on winning the Aarohan Social Innovation Awards 2023 by Infosys Foundation under the Women Empowerment category for our unique data-driven sanitation model called the ‘One Home One Toilet’. Through this model we have facilitated home toilets to 27,000 underserved families and empowered slum women to be prime decision-makers in adopting good sanitation and hygiene practices. We thank our supporters, partners, well-wishers and the communities for their unflinching trust and support.

Infosys Foundation Social Innovation Award

A good day happens with a good hair day! Girls from Panmala vasti did enjoy and learn about hair health and got to experience a hands-on grooming session conducted by our well-wisher and supporter, Hetal Bhatia and team from Professional_Hair_Do. As a token girls were gifted conditioners and Shampoo bottles. She also guided the girls on using eco-friendly menstrual hygiene products like menstrual cups.
